Clinton Game Report

I was at the Clinton game last night and saw Smoak's debut as well as 6 innings from Beaven.  I left after 6 innings (I had 2 kids with me) but I saw 3 of Smoak's at bats.  His first 2 at bats were lefty against a pretty solid starter for Peoria.  He saw 7 pitches in his first at bat and drew a walk.  In his second at bat he was a loud out to center and in his third at bat, hitting right, he rolled out meekly on the first pitch he saw.  Defensively he didn't have to do much so I can't comment on that.

Beavan was good but if I didn't know who he was I wouldn't have been blown away.  He was certainly not overpowering and his fastball stayed between 88-91.  He touched 92 occasionally and the stadium gun had him at 97 once on a high fastball, but I'm not sure I trust that reading.  He pitched well but was not the an oh and ah type of performance. I would publish some pics but I don't know how to do it, so if someone will tell me how to get them from my pics onto this then I will do it.

"I’m sure you’ve seen Kiker before but I’ll just reiterate that the kid is mean on the mound. He is only 5’10’’ but he is an intimidator. He looks like he hates hitters. He has the juice for pressure situations."

Stadium radar guns

Don’t ever trust the radar gun readings at stadiums. They are more than likely run by an intern who doesn’t know, or care, how to accurately aim the gun to get the correct reading. Unless you see the reading on the gun of a scout with your own eyes, don’t trust it.

or players

the handful of times i’ve been to clinton this year, i’ve sat with the players charting the game,
there are usually at least 2 guns and theyre accurate

Not sure what happened, but my message disappeared

Players certainly know more about running guns than interns do. I would still trust a scouts gun over a players gun, but at least the players gun should be close.

with Smoak and Blake… Bet y’all had a good time. I’m sure with two kids you spent some money. Looking forward to the pics if you decide to post themm.

just wait till McCarthy

makes his 2008 debut and hopefully he doesn’t flop. It’s rather disturbing he’s not pitched in a game all year.

he'll probably pitch good against the weak Indians

but the bullpen will just blow it
