Mark Connor speaks
Mark Connor has been regarded as a class guy, and his comments to Richard Durrett reflect that:
"I know how it works," Connor said. "Our pitching hasn't been very good. I'm the guy responsible for it. I accept the responsibility. Hopefully they can get some things straightened out."
* * *
"It's a tough league to pitch in and these young kids have growing pains," Connor said. "The experience will pay off, it's just going to take some time. I had a good time there. It's a good place, good people, great area."

Semi-OT: When did "class" become an adjective?
Grammar Police Warning
Some time a while back, a few sports folks started referring to classy people as “class people.” Technically, I think that means they’re fans of the caste system. I’m not sure.

I'm talking about Adam...
a lawyer, who uses English to write long winded papers, opinions, and documents. Surely he knows the difference between a noun and an adjective.
Plus, this is clearly a gigantic pet peeve of mine. “Class” is absolutely NOT an adjective.

Class vs. Classy
It’s….. just not worth talking about, especially this much. I doubt anybody cares beyond you. When you rip on Adam and insinuate he’s wrong or stupid for misusing a word that he might not have even misused on a BLOG, I just find it to be ridiculous. Fine, whip away on that dead horse. I promise I won’t comment on it again. I’m finished and stopping now. I’m just trying to save you from the stupidity of your own comments.

Your contradictory actions are confusing.
For someone who doesn’t “give a damn”, you’ve used some pretty harsh language and a few personal insults to make your point. I know that “THIS. IS. A. MESSAGE. BOARD.” and that I should expect such things, especially from those who resort to name-calling, but you should listen to your own advice.
I’m trying to have fun here, and you seem to be taking it all very seriously.
And for the record, comments on a blog are for discussion. I started a discussion about the proliferation of a stupid colloquialism created by the geniuses in Bristol, and it was relevant to Adam’s post until you hijacked it.

*** Notice ***
Misapplication abounds. “Class act” can be used as a singular, two word noun. Like “rice burner” for a Japanese car. Like “top drawer” for something you consider excellent. Like “weather man” for a TV news personality (unless she is a woman, of course, and even then it’s been used).
Are we sufficiently lightened from mulish defense of irresponsible claims yet?
Note: “mulish” is truly and adjective.

The Aftermath:
Just got upstairs and had some interesting Rangers reaction to the change of pitching coaches. It was a quiet scene in the dressing room today, as pretty much everyone was sad to see Mark Connor and Dom Chiti go. Several of the players talked around the issue, not wanting to question management, but not too happy with the decision either.
Andy Hawkins is a great guy, but even he was tentative about the decision. Connor was his pitching coach when he was with the Yankees, and you could tell it was difficult for Hawkins to see him get fired. The bottom line is management believes this change will inspire the team and possibly lead to new ideas. Nolan Ryan is on board with it, so that obviously puts some heavy weight behind it.
But even Ron Washington said there won’t be immediate results, as he called it ``a process.’‘

well it certainly adds perspective. As much as we think the pitchers will react well to a change, i guess we should recognize the fact that the guys that they just fired might actually be liked. People have said that connor seems like he’s yelling at people on the mound and chiti has been characterized as the disciplinarian but so far, I haven’t seen anything to indicate that these people weren’t liked.

Well, with their position,
and ages (49 & 59), they may have been seen as a father figure for many of the players.
A bummer, all in all, but we all obviously hope it helps the team, long-run.
