Minors 8/23: Dutch, Tim Murphy and so much more
Shaping up to be a nice night in the minors with Dutch looking to keep rolling in AA (2-0 with a 0.64 ERA and a 17/2 k/bb ratio in 14 innings) while Tim Murphy looks to continue what has been a very encouraging debut season (4-1 with a 3.11 ERA in 37.2 innings with a 43/17 k/bb ratio) as he makes his second start for Clinton.
Other guys are probably pitching too.
Here's the full slate according to Shroomer's superlative site:
SPO-9:15- Nevarez
CLN-7:00- Murphy
BAK-9:15- Phillips
FRS-7:00- Holland
OKC-7:00- Lizard
AZRL-pm- Miggy?
Should be a fun night following the farm tonight.

Let's go Dutch

Even if they never end up as more than .750-.800 OPS guys I’m still getting legitimately excited about the speed and (much more importantly) defense those two are gonna provide at key positions.

Dumb hunch?
I like his bat control, and ability to hit any junk thrown up there. Give him more time with a wood bat, and I just have a feeling he will improve across the board.

Really?
Borbon does not walk. He doesn’t strike out much either, but he just does not get out of the batter’s box without making contact and that means he’s hacking at bad pitches too often.
Kinda similar to “hit any junk thrown up there”?

He may be fine not walking
and living on his other skills, but I wouldn’t count on him suddenly walking more. He seems to really like to swing, like Pudge. If he’s hitting .310 or so that’s not a problem, and it would also help greatly if his powere developed (soon!) so his extra base totals went up. If he hits something like .310/.340/.400 while playing stellar defense in CF, that’s a valuable guy.
But minor numbers don’t equal ML numbers, as you know, and it may be wishful thinking that he’s going to match his AA stats in Arlington. I think if he can keep those K rates down he’ll be ok in the long run. I’m optimistic, but if I’m Daniels, I’m hedging my bets if I have a chance to acquire another CFer over the next 18 months. In 2009 they can keep using a combo of Hamilton, Byrd, and Murphy.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

Usually people do hits-ab as opposed to ab-hits. Was just trying to bust your balls a bit.
Borbon excites me more and more each passing day
I can’t wait to see that speed running down balls in CF everyday.
Would you all be in favor of moving up all 3 of the triplets at the end of the year?
Instead of just Borbon and Andrus, seems Andrus has benefitted greatly with being teamed up with Borbon and Vallejo in lineup.

Gave up a run, the loser. Walked the leadoff guy, moved over to 2nd on a groundout, scored on a bloop to center.
Obviously he needs to be dropped down a couple of spots in the prospect rankings because of this.

Jonathan Greene..
After two more tonight, Clinton’s Jonathan Greene now has 33 HPB’s in 501 plate appearances for the year. I’m just thinking what it must feel like, getting hit 33 times over four months. Conjures up memories of ex-wife number 3.

I was at the Frisco game tonight...
Holland was truly dominant. Midland had one hard hit (single) in the first. Another hit was a swinging bunt, and then Everidge’s rbi was an extremely weak bloop into no man’s land behind third base. Holland kept the hitters off balance all night with a great fastball (usually around 95) and a slider or cutter (around 87 or 88). He threw a few curveballs, one that was especially filthy to strike a guy out swinging in his last inning of work. I really like the downward angle that his pitches travel on towards the plate. I think that really makes good stuff a whole lot better.
Andrus was really impressive at the plate tonight. He drove the ball to right field in every at bat with his only outs being line outs to the right fielder. Whittleman showed nice power to the gaps with a double and triple to each gap.
Cool
Nice to hear first hand reports.
This kid was barely on my radar to begin the year.
Crazy how far he’s come.
He’s making a serious run at one of the top 2 spots in the winter CPP. It’ll take a herculean effort to overtake Neftali, but Dutch is going all sorts of Hercules! Hercules! on the Texas League right now.

During initial game
wasn’t he hitting max of 95, is he really getting back to form? If so, any chance of him getting more innings in this year in Spoakane playoff run?
Good to see from Font
Matt Thompson is really struggling though. In each of his last three outings he’s gone one inning and given up four hits.
