Monday a.m. stuff
That was a 2-7 homestand, during a time when the organization is wanting the team to finish strong and end up above .500 on the season. Disappointing.
Nelson Cruz is coming up, and Joaquin Arias is going to get an extended look while Ian Kinsler is out.
There's not much more to say right now.

Disappointing, perhaps
But I have to admit I am relieved that it is looking more and more likely that our first round pick will be protected next June. I expect this team to make some major changes this offseason and to be more aggressive in FA than we have seen in a while, and this poor finish will a) ensure that majors changes do, in fact, occur, and b) allow us to bring an impact player into this org this winter and then another (hopefully) impact player next June.

Hicks
knows he has to bring in a big name player this off season. The attendance right now is on a pace for an all time low for this franchise.
Today is the youngest you will ever be. Act like it.

between Hicks and Nolan
we are talking about two rather large egos who will not stand for another vanilla offseason. Whether JD makes it through the ensuing storm remains to be seen. JD fans, keep your fingers crossed BMac stays healthy and effective over these last few weeks.

Boston
Lets wait until after Boston comes to town before we start talking about all time low attendances
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

ha ha ha
that’s what people here said before NYY came to town and failed to sell out their games – we discussed this, steve.
what’s worse is that the sunday game is week 1 of the NFL season – cowboys play at same time in CLE.
rangers in person or cowboys on tv? hmmm….

I've been impressed with Arias...
glad to see he’s gonna get further playing time…

He looked pretty good last night.
He fielded well, threw well, ran well, and hit well. I think his emergence makes Vazquez expendable, so I’d love to see him stick. That obviously won’t make up for the ARod trade, but if we can get a cheap utility guy or he develops into a tradeable commodity, then that will dull some of the resonating sting.

What I was thinking is what someone said on this board.
Arias reminds me a lot like Otis Nixon.

agreed!
i wonder if arias is going to pull a knife on his bodyguard….
“Nixon was also heard yelling: "I will cut your heart out,” according to the police report. Nixon said he was naked because he was waiting for his female friend to arrive."
genius!

Eww
Picturing Otis Nixon fully clothed is bad enough.
Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

Vazquez is a f*ck stick
He has been sh*t since he was whining about his playing time when Hbla came back the first time. Mr. Clubhouse is OK as long as he plays everyday. Screw him. Now utility infielder should ever b*tch about PT. Hitting a whopping .178 vs. lefties, making lots of errors, right about the time he started complaining was when this thing started falling apart.

Did anyone see this?
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/08/rosenthals-la-8.html
Rosenthal’s latest, via MLBTR.
Obviously it is simply speculation, but it does make me a little nervous:
Rangers president Nolan Ryan may be considering sweeping changes. He might replace the team’s manager, GM, or both. If he chooses to install his own people, Gerry Hunsicker and Tim Purpura would be the top GM candidates.
I don’t know much about Hunsicker, but he had quite a bit of success with the Astros during his time there. Interestingly, his achilles heel was the catcher position, and while he inherited most of the “Killer B’s” who made up the heart of their line up, he did develop a number of good young pitchers during that time.

"may be considering"
With a line like that, I’m thinking it was just filler.

Rosenthal's exact quote
There is growing speculation that Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan could make sweeping changes. Changes involving manager Ron Washington, GM Jon Daniels or both. Washington was signed in 2009 and Daniels was extended through 2011 the day that Ryan was hired. However, given the Rangers struggles, Ryan might want to put his own people in place. He’s fond of two former Astros GMs, Gerry Hunsiker and Tim Purpura, both of whom he knows from owning the Astros AAA affiliate in Round Rock Texas. Some close to Hunsiker says he’s ‘itching’ to get back to a GM position.

Tim Purpura?
You have to be freaking kidding me

I'd probably quit watching
the Astros. Purpura was a disaster as GM.

Wouldn't surprise me
but not based on Rosenthal’s report, which just seems to be filler.

Hunsicker
would be better than Purpura…either way I don’t like former Astros’ GM running our deep farm, look at what has happened to the Astros under Purpura (until this year) they have absolutely nothing in the farm

I'm not complaining
I mean…I get the trade and all if Eddie wasn’t coming back next season anyway…but dang it, I like him. He was funny with that little squat-hop after the pitch.
And, let’s not forget the belly flop. That was a riot!!
