PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE
Prospect Nuggets
In his fourth game back since missing three weeks with a hip flexor, Oklahoma C Max Ramirez (Rangers) went 2-for-6 with a home run (two) and two RBIs . . . Oklahoma RHP Tommy Hunter (Rangers) tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings at Round Rock. He allowed four hits while striking out five and walking four.
TEXAS LEAGUE
It’s getting repetitive to say, but Frisco shortstop Elvis Andrus is tearing up the TL in the second half. Yesterday Andrus went 2-for-4, drew a walk and stole a base, his 51st of the year. At least we can start writing something new about Andrus: he turned 20 today …
California League
Bakersfield first baseman Ian Gac was 1-for-3 and went deep for the 12th time in the Cal League.
Midwest League
Clinton (Rangers) center fielder Engel Beltre went 3-for-5 with a double in an 11-6 win over Peoria (Cubs) …
Short Season
Prospect Of The Day
Seventeen-year-old lefthander Martin Perez (Rangers) finally won his first game in short-season ball. Perez went five shutout innings, holding Tri-City to four hits and two walks. He struck out four. Add his name to the deep list of quality pitching prospects on that Spokane team
A lot of mentions for the Rangers organization with only the Rookie league team having no representatives

It shows him on the Clinton roster at Milb.com

No number yet, but it shows him active so im guessing hes avaliable
I owuld love to see it and see Wakefeild get hammered
just to see Boston make a panic move….
But with our luck, Wakefeild will dominate and Millwood will get spanked
Lineup
Arias 2B

Hamilton CF
Bradely DH
Hbla 1B
Byrd LF
Cruz RF
Laird C
Vazquez 3B???

Salty is actually
hitting .320 his last 10. Seems like they are out on him though. Granted he has underwhelmed me up to this point, but I don’t see why they can’t run him out there at least 2-3 times a week.
Nippert=Cy Young
I was surprised he wasn't in the lineup last night
After the beating Gerald took on Sunday. And the stretch he’s played. But….whatever….

as much as i hate going to work somedays
i would have to say that’s the one thing in life i’m sure i don’t miss……except maybe the friends.
Had a decent career for 8 years, had reconsructive knee surgery
and decided a career change was in order….
one of the best decisions i ever made
im a student...
working on a Statistical Analysis degree with a roll over masters…
Lets just say the smallest offer I have had is substantially more than I used to make as an Electrical Superintendent.
The hardest decision I have had about my degree was to turn down Stanford, USC and UCLA to stay at UNT.
what you not a QC guy?
My technical degree falls into a Decision Science Degree with a specialization in long term analysis of finical trends in the stock market…. Or that’s the plan so far,may change my thesis if i find something more interesting…
I could quit right now and do mid term and long term forecasting for Nokia, but since we have no kids and my wife teaches honors in Plano, I’m just sticking with it till i’m done.
numbers bury me.
i just thought it was cool that there’s an LSB blogger studying statistical analysis.

Although in retrospect I’m happy with where I am now…I had the test scores to get into an Ivy League school, or Stanford (which was where I really wanted to go), but couldn’t even get into Rice (I got wait-listed there) because of my GPA.
Then, as an undergrad, I was a big screw-up and got crappy grades, which limited my law school choices.

he's just teasing us
you’ll be sitting there thinking, well maybe he’ll have a good night then all of a sudden he’ll give up like 6 or 7 singles and we will be losing
that's what it always seems like in his games
he will only give up 2 or 3 extra base hits but there will also be 10+ singles added in there some where.
damn
that was seriously impressive

The Elephant in the Room...
…on the Tom and Josh discussion of the batting title controversy between McRae and Brett…
There was discussion that Scott Brye (white) let Brett’s ball fall in because he didn’t want the black player to get the title.
Steve Brye, I mean
Here’s a link.Things have been like this for a long time," McRae said later after regaining his composure. "It’s changing gradually. But I know how things are, so I can accept them. … It’s too bad things like that have to happen in 1976.. …
"If the shoe was on the other foot, I’m sure they wouldn’t let the ball drop for me. I know what happened, but I don’t think everybody else is going to find out."
McRae, surrounded by a huge gathering of reporters, said repeatedly that he didn’t want to get specific because "it wouldn’t do any good."
Many of Kansas City’s other black players also were resentful over the home-run play but refused public comment.
"I don’t think he lost it in the sun. You can say that," said Dave Nelson seated next to Amos Otis, who expressed similar skepticism.

Semi-funny story from yesterday I forgot to include in my recap
My brother and I were standing near the Rangers’ dugout along with about a dozen other people, trying to get players’ attention. I heard a guy behind me yell out, “88! 88! Can I get your autograph?” I looked around to see who 88 was. It was a “BB” not an “88.” So, he wanted the bat boy’s autograph. Awesome. Although the bat boy did look a little like Max Ramirez.

I will add this about Kauffman
They have some of the funniest between-inning entertainment I’ve seen. They did a “jaywalking” like segment with a guy asking people around the stadium basic questions they should know. But they didn’t. They also do a “diamond talk” game where they throw out an obscure baseball term and have a fan try to decide what it means. Last night’s term was “frozen rope.”

To me, it is the anti-Turner Field.
Turner Field is a carnival. It’s not a ballpark. It’s a total disgrace to the game.
The K is a minimalist approach to baseball, which I adore. No frills. No crazy special sections for kids. Just freakin’ baseball. The closest thing to frills are the fountains, which just add a touch of class. I love it.

Sabathia
He’s the only big time free agent pitcher out there this offseason (Sheets doesn’t really qualify).
There are a bunch of teams out there who want a front-line pitcher and have money to spend.
Unless Texas wants to go, say, 7 years, $160 million, I don’t think they are in the hunt for him.

There's why he has no legitimate trade value:
He’s a veteran… he shouldn’t have to be putting things together, particularly with his tenure in the majors.
He’s finally healthy… because he has been everything but for the majority of the past two seasons.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Disregard that now
Good job Kevin

There is no one automatic in the bullpen
and it has been wiped out this year. Even before that happened, I still take the risk that he loses the game. 93 pitches, pitching good throughout the game, a couple of bloop shots hurt him there but he was still the same as he was throughout most of the game.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Who might that closer be?
Riding the fluky Millwood streak for one more out apparently was the right move.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.
You've gotta be kidding me.
Did Hawkins just convince Wash to keep in him?
It’s on you, Hawkins.

Rangers seem to be having fun again
Getting that record back over .500 would be huge going into next season, especially considering how bleak things have been lately

.
The Stros copped it earlier in the year when they tried to bring in Valverde with a three-run lead instead of keeping Chacon (yes, the dude who choked out shitty GM) to finish a reasonably comfortable CG. You know what happened? Homer, two-run homer, double to score winning run.
You guys still have Chacon?
How’d that happen?

What in the hell has got into Millwood?
He hasn’t sucked two games in a row now. It’s nice and all, but where has this been the rest of the season?
He's pitched well all year
Fangraphs had a post on it this year.. basically, he’s been unbelievably unlucky to this point of the season. His peripherals were comparable-even better than, actually-than Cole Hamels’.
Pretty clearly the first time he has ever looked at a web site. "And there are readers' comments at the bottom! And advertisements for products! And best of all, I won a free iPod!"
-Ken Tremendous on Mike Downey.
yeah a .372 BABIP this year and a .348 last year
will screw your ERA
Heres another idea of how bad Millwoods luck has been the last few years.
Millwood had a 67% Left on Base % last year
Yeah a crazy 67% LOB% for Millwood last year…. Or more better said, 33% of the time last season an inherited runner scored for Millwood.
his Fielding independent ERA this year is a 4.30, last year a 4.55
I try not to get into the numbers for guys cause most people get angry when people use #’s to explain luck, but Millwood is the anti-Gallaraga
Meh...
“he’s pitched well all year”. Look at his WHIP. No one is that unlucky.
He really hasn’t pitched that well with the exception of 4 or 5 starts including the last 2.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
I'd take Cole Hamles all day,
any day. he actually strikes batters out, and he’s a lefty. and he has a 1.04 WHIP. did you really say that Millwood’s numbers are better than Hamels? I’m confused…

Here's the link
Milwood strikes out more, walks less, and surrenders less home runs. What more is there to say?
Note: My mistake; It’s Floyd, not Hamels.
