Happy belated birthday, Elvis Andrus
Happy belated birthday to Elvis Andrus, who turned 20 years old on Tuesday...
The Rangers website has a nice feature article up on him, including some quotes from Frisco hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh on what Andrus needs to work on (pulling the ball is one of his projects).

Gut feeling
Can’t shake it: I think he’s the starting SS for the 2009 Texas Rangers.
Worst case, it happens mid-season.

you kiddin me...
the kid is 20 and hasnt played in AAA. You really think they will move FOTF to 3B for a kid who hasn’t even sniffed AAA ball? He still has a lot to prove, namely plate dicipline and his decision making fielding balls trying to do too much. He needs another FULL year in the minors at least. I think 2010 would be a good timetable if we don’t plan on rushing him

Elvis Andrus
is probably a better defensive SS than Michael YOung right now. His K/BB ratio is pretty much the mirror image of Michael Young’s.
Does that mean we should have FOTF have a year in AAA to figure things out?

just turned 20 years old and is hitting .300 with a .350 obp
in a full season of AA improving as the season progressed?
the King may need more seasoning in AAA but to act totally surprised and bust out a “you kiddin me…”
its certainly not far fetched.

Elvis
The Rangers, you have to believe, want to contend no later than 2010.
So you’re saying that’s when they should break in the franchise SS (who’s a plus-plus defender)? Maybe.
But when he plays ML-caliber D, it’s going to help the pitching…on the ML level, even.
Changes will come this winter, absolutely with this joke of a pitching staff. If I’m JD, I want Elvis to be on the ground floor of that whole thing. His bat will keep coming along, that’s what he’s already shown in 2008.

Damn...
Sometimes I have to remind myself how much younger he is compared to other AA kids. Just turned 20 and already done so much in the minors.
