Minors - 08/29

I didn't know whether or not the rest of the minor league games would be encompassed in the Frisco post, so I'll put this up anyway.  If it's unnecessary, someone delete it.

Clinton - CWun - 7:00pm

Bakersfield - Phillips - 9:30pm

Frisco - Feliz - 7:00pm

OKC - Lee - 7:00pm

Spokane - Boscan - 8:15pm

<Stream for Spokane game>

To fill space, some of the people from the LSB fantasy baseball AL keeper league extravaganza are starting a keeper football league.  If anyone's interested in joining, leave your email.  Draft time is tentatively set for next Saturday afternoon.

Umm you realize the season starts next Thursday right? Wouldn’t a Saturday draft be weird since the season has already started?

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Yeah, but people are generally more available on weekends.

Plus, I can change the draft date and I arbitrarily set the date to next Saturday.

Just curious

I didn’t know if you knew about the game on Thursday

Random

-Holland was rated #14 on our midseason prospect list in mid july.
6 or so weeks later… #2 behind feliz with davis now past rookie status?

-Fantasy football… generally more/less interesting than fantasy baseball? Ive never even played a league. Certainly wouldnt want to join the keeper league as my first FF league but im thinking aobut signing up for a free random one on yahoo just to try it out.

-Woo, feliz.

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

fantasy football

i used to be really into it, last year was the first year i didnt play. mostly because i work sundays so i cant watch games. if i cant watch it kinda takes the fun away

FF is more interesting

because it’s always a head to head matchup, It gives more incentive to keep up and for guys to trash talk.

How much

is the entry fee for the FFootball league? And is the draft a straight draft or an auction?

What's the rumpus?

Feliz

Regardless of what he does the rest of this game its good to see his ability to throw some good breaking balls (in the 2nd inning), especially throwing a few for strikes. Too bad they don’t have a radar gun up, he’s had some fastball with some pretty good movement though.

by groundingout on Aug 29, 2008 7:28 PM CDT reply actions

Feliz

very good looking change up there…96 and 97 are the two speeds I’ve heard

by groundingout on Aug 29, 2008 7:42 PM CDT reply actions

it looks like he is throwing

a lot of pitches. i guess most K heavy pitcher do, but still, you would like to see him become more efficient.

by clark on Aug 29, 2008 7:57 PM CDT reply actions

pitches

There have been a couple cheap hits that haven’t helped and I’ve only noticed him throwing just a few pitches that completely missed. After that if they can’t hit it, more pitches will be needed. Also from the BA chat today:

Q: Nick from Astoria asks:
Main continues to pitch very well. Where do you see him ranking in the top 100 prospects, and how do you think he will do in the future in the MLB?
 A:

John Manuel: Very possible top 100, great athlete, great arm, would like to see more IP before ranking him super high. Hard to say what he’ll be — Roy Oswalt? Jake Peavy? He’s slight, throws the hell out of it and is a freaky athlete, those guys seem to be his high-end comps.

by groundingout on Aug 29, 2008 8:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Nice to see those high-end

comps for Mr. Michael Main. I’d be delighted if he was even 3/4 of those guys.

is freaking amazing.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

do you know

why he only went four? are they limiting his inning total? he would only have one more start, right?

Just made a wonderful stop to keep another run from scoring. It may not show up in the boxscore but those are the plays that our current SS simply can’t make.

Welp

It did save a run. Next batter grounds into a DP. It would have been a DP no matter what because that ball was only going to be a single but by keeping it from going in the OF he kept the 2nd runner from scoring. God I can’t wait until he is doing that in Arlington.

Brennan Garr

has been quietly excellent after a slow start

Garr

Been digging that kid since Clinton…groundballs, measly average against, and a lot of Ks.

I bet he sees the bigs next year.

Not only that

but lots and lots of strike swinging percentage. I think he was at like 23%. That’s pretty ridiculous.

power arsenal?

FB/slider guy?

I don’t know much about him.

Warner Madrigal makes Ezequiel Astacio look downright handsome.

Fastball, sinking fastball

a breaking pitch, might have a changeup, but it’s a very rare sight.

A lot of movement on a very heavy fastball

Boscan update

His fastball/curve combination is outstanding. The Boscan/NeRa back-to-back must be like a 1-2 punch for the short-season hitters.

Boscan

rated by the all of Northwest SS as best righty. Can’t believe Ramirez didn’t make cut. Murphy best lefty relief pitcher.

Boscan vs the other pitchers in the NWL

Among qualifying pitchers, Boscan now ranks 5th in ERA at 3.12, 2nd in WHIP at 1.12, and 2nd in strikeouts with 70. The NWL pitchers who are above Boscan are 20-23 years old; Boscan is 18.

If it weren't for Holland

he might be the guy we talk most about lately. (other than Feliz, of course.)

this is great. I remember just crossing my fingers that Kozlowski was for real. Even if disaster happens and none of these guys pan out I will remember these days fondly for the hope.
