Ages of Ranger minor leaguers compared to rest of league
Created a database with a bunch of info for each minor league in which the Rangers play, including:
5 youngest and oldest Rangers
10 youngest and 5 oldest players in the entire league
Comparisons of average age for every team in each league, and counts of players above and below particular age points.
http://rangers.scottlucas.com/site/2008minorage.htm
A few players have moved (Hunter, Pina) since I updated the database, the there's still food for thought.

wonder where our Frisco
rating would be without Puffer/Lee/Hodges.
Also, Juan Gonzalez is still in the STL org?

Northwest League
4 pitchers in the 10 youngest of that league and they all belong to the good guys. Not only are they young, but they are more than holding their own.

Good work, Scott
Having attended OKC and CLI games and looking at our rosters, I wondered how our players’ ages compared to others in their league.

Wasn't John Hudgins
regarded highly when he was here?

Yes
Had the pleasure of watching Hudgins outduel King Felix in Frisco. Thought we really had something in Hudgins. Just goes to show how quick good things can go to s—t when you’re a Ranger fan.

The Rangers apparently
screwed him up as a pitching prospect when he was here and then of course injuries have killed him since then.

Definitely gives perspective (And definitely deserves all the recs it gets)...
Although they’re not exactly Top-Tier in the system, this information should give us reason to not entirely write off players like Chad Tracy (b. 7/4/85, and after sub-par performaces in April in May, is hitting .280/.358/.455 in the California League for the entire season), Jonathan Greene (b. 9/16/85, and after a sub-par performance in April is hitting .254/.365/.476 in the Midwest League for the entire season), Steven Murphy (b. 4/22/84 and currently hitting .270/.324/.506 in the Texas League), and Mitchell Moreland (b. 9/6/85 and currently hitting .305/.386/.507 in the Midwest League).
Also, there are quite a few guys who, if asked to repeat the league that they’re in for 2009, won’t have fallen into the category of Lost Causes (And yes, I am aware that an average means the average of everyone in the league, including players not considered likely future major leaguers). Among them are:
Zachary Phillips – Born 9/21/86, which would make him about 22.5 on April 1st, 2009. The league average of the California League, which is where he’s been this season, is currently 23.4.
Michael Schlact – born 12/9/85, which would make him about 23.3 on April 1st, 2009. The league average of the Texas League, which is where he’s been this season is currently 24.7.
Cristian Santana – born 6/18/89, which would make him about 19.8 on April 1st, 2009. The league average of the Midwest League, which is where he’s been this year, is currently 22.3.
Taylor Teagarden – born 12/21/83, which would make him about 25.3 on April 1st, 2009. The league average of the Pacific Coast League, which is where he’s played 53 of his 71 games this year, is 27.5.
Meet the M&M Gang: Mathis, Murray, Millwood, Mendoza, McCarthy. Watch these brave souls as they attempt such feats as brushing their teeth, combing their hair, and sneezing without suffering season-ending injuries!

Paisano
I guess he just missed the Spokane list, turns 20 the day before Thanksgiving this year. Nice to see him finally doing well in the N’West league now, and hitting 3rd last night, interesting.
