OT: In case anyone cares
Gustav has hosed our entire vacation. Houston is pretty much out (evacuation traffic tomorrow), and Round Rock looks like it has a good possibility of getting rained out, and I'm not sure I want to fight traffic on 35 Sunday/Monday. We were thinking about just heading to San Marcos tonight instead, but all the hotels in San Marcos are booked tonight and tomorrow night, so we can't even do that.
Looks like we'll be running around DFW as usual instead. Dammit!

How about Tallequah, OK?
Not too far, pleasant outdoorsy stuff.

I went there a number of years ago...
I was trying to talk my girlfriend into coming up there with me for a little canoeing and fishing before it got too cold. Had a lot of fun there.

I haven’t been there for almost 20 years now.

I go to Tahllequah every year. In fact, my avatar pic was taken right there on the Illinois River. Don’t know if I’d recommend taking a family camping there or not- the locals can get pretty wound up from, oh, say, sundown ’til about an hour after sunrise.

I didn't get to fish...
when I went, but it looks like a really fishable river. Saw the Trail of Tears play, too, and all that. Then we drove up to Eureka Springs and saw an enormous dashboard Jesus.

I am part Cherokee Indian ...
… and have family up there. We used to go to that area every Labor Day Weekend for the pow-wows. That is a beautiful area, I have also been to the Trail of Tears play and up to Eureka Springs. I really liked it there, all the hillbilly stuff in the shops is hilarious, reminds me of Aggie-Longhorn jokes down here. We went camping and fishing they found a snake in the river and my mom’s in-laws freaked out, so we had to leave. Wish we would have stayed longer.

You know
we were actually talking about heading to OK instead – we picked up an Oklahoma road map while we were out today

yeah well
my girlfriend made one of the best decisions ever…to drive to Rockport for the weekend, not coming back until Monday. do you know where Rockport is? oh true, it’s protected from the gulf by a thin layer of land called San Jose Island. not the smartest move.

much appreciated Jayslick
I think she’ll be OK, but going out there on Friday it wasn’t looking like the best of decisions.
I love that area, my family took yearly vacations there, staying at the Aransas Princess on Mustang Island.
