College Football Week 1 Open Thread
Should be some pretty easy wins for most of the big 12 south with texas tech, UT, OU, and A&M facing teams from non power conferences or Division 2. OSU may have a bit of trouble with WSU, but thats pretty much it for the South. As for the North, the big showdown will be with Mizzou and Illinois. Also, alot of the top 25 is also starting this week, making for a nice start to the season.....
btw Appalacian State is already losing 17-0 to LSU. Its gonna be tough to pull off the upset 2 years in a row.

Great sig
I will forever be disappointed with OU for losing to Boise State and letting the undeserving little guys (aka the teams that beat one team along the likes of Wisconsin, Kansas State, or Colorado and then run the table against the powerful WAC/MAC/shitty conference) steal future BCS bowl bids from deserving 10-2/11-1 power conference teams. Tsk tsk tsk.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

That's arguably the best BCS game I've ever seen
I’m no OU fan, I’ll admit that, but wow, that game had it all.

2000 NC game between OU and FSU
The Sooners were heavy underdogs going into that game. Greatest thing about that game is my wife went to FSU.

Damn...
beat me to it.
Anyway Utes at the Big House to take on the Wolverines. I’m pumped up. I want to see my boys get themselves back on the college football map. A win at Michigan would do that. Michigan has lost most of their offensive weapons, and has a new coach and system, but it will be tough. They return a solid defense. I think some ore over looking my Utes for the Cougs down south. That could end today, at least I hope so.

i'm not sure why i have to explain this
but I’m first generation American, didn’t have fam that went to any type of big college here, so when i grew up i got into basketball because of Bird and McHale and Parish and I loved Lou Holtz and watching guys like Autrey Denson. But, for some reason i should get punished for that.
And, here i thought libs were tolerant people.

When TCU build this they should at least get some 5 star recruits. I wish DFW had a power house football programs like SMU did in the 80’s. This would definitely help put TCU there if it all works out.

Doing something bold like this would put TCU on the map. Being a former Frog this could create a lot of Buzz and help put us on the map. DFW needs a power house team. If you think about it TCU has been the 3rd most consistent team in College Football in Texas the past few years behind UT and A&M. If it wasn’t for LT and Coach Fran plans like these wouldn’t be possible. If coach Patterson struggles this year I would love coach Fran to come back.

2,000 people in a metroplex of 6.1m doesn’t mean people care. That’s less than 1/4th of the student body. People just need to realize college sports will never thrive in the metroplex like they do in small towns with no pro teams in the state.

Not really...
TCU and SMU had thriving programs up until the famous “death penalty” fallout, and before both of these schools got f’d over by politics when the SWC fell.
I guarantee that if either TCU or SMU hadn’t got squeezed out of the BIG 12 they would draw a lot more interest and support from football fans in the metroplex. After all, not EVERYONE in the metroplex has an allegiance to UT or A&M….

Not definite yet...
TCU has to finish an Olympic sports training center for the offices of the coaches that are currently housed in the football stadium. After that they’ll start on the stadium. The endzone project is already done though. Now it’s just the 2 sides of the stadium. Last plan I heard was they’d likely knock down one side and rebuild it one year, then knock the other and rebuild it the following year. Rumors have it anywhere from 2-5 years off.

Why?
Rooting for A&M is like rooting for the Rangers, just hard luck. Rooting for UT is like rooting for the Yankees, just a bandwagon fanbase and perennial underachievers (except the national title a couple years ago). Rooting for Tech is like rooting for an XFL team, drunk, disorderly fans who are hicks, and a gimmicky team (although it works).
Just seems like logically rooting for A&M is a process of elimination for me from all the annoying teams.

Yeah
That was the beer talking. Shots went into overdrive after that blocked XP. It’s not gonna be easy but we better beat Tulsa at home next week. Or we’re looking at an 0-4 start with games at LSU and Rice next. Looking at the schedule y’all can probably run the table. The only slip up I can see is Tech. UT shouldn’t scare anyone.

Its all fun. I figured it was something like that that is why I didn’t get nasty with your statement. Tulsa as a very good offense so it might be a shoot out for you guys.

Not with that schedule.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

LOL
OU vs USC national championship, book it! They don’t have to play Mizzou or Colorado. They get Nebraska and Tech at home. UT is overrated this year in my opinion, a lot of talent but when has Mack gotten that to come together? The only test will be Mizzou in the big 12 title game. Could we see a repeat of 2003?

Ohh
I was actually referring to when they lost to an inferior K-State team in the big 12 title game after running through the schedule that year. But I see how the OU vs USC would be a re-peat of 2004.
