Ban.

Aikman and Bradshaw?

Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

by N41D on Aug 31, 2008 4:52 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm still wondering when he got his top velocity back up to 93

That and a string of two complete game wins and a third that looks like he should make it for eight innings at least. Maybe we should keep Hawkins around as the pitchign coach next year.

by Inkara1 on Aug 31, 2008 4:52 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Anybody else think that

during that stretch that was SOOOOO bad after Hawkins was hired, that they were implementing the things that Hawkins was telling them? I know the middle of the season isn’t the best time to do this, but something is working.

by TxStCa on Aug 31, 2008 4:54 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm pretty sure he only had oen bad start after Hawkins was hired

He was on the DL when Connor was fired… his first start after Hawkins came on was against Tampa Bay, where he looked really good for four innings before the wheels fell off. then came the two straight CGs.

by Inkara1 on Aug 31, 2008 4:56 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, but what about everybody else?

Seems like we get good starts every night now….

Firing of Connor...

Starting pitching suddenly improves?

Coincidence? Proof is in the pudding. Hopefully it translates to next year as well.

No idea

The guy has looked pretty much done this past month after pitching a ton of innings. He might get out of this inning without any problems, but I just don’t know why you would risk using him in a 2 run game when you have already lost enough games this series thanks to a poor bullpen.

Getting out of the inning without any problems would be a double-edged sword

It would mean we still have a chance for this game, but it would also give Wash the backup he’s looking for to justify his decision to go to Wright in close games later.

Greg Smith

Not that he hasn’t had a decent year, but after getting hit pretty hard today his ERA is up to 4.23. I’d prefer not to hear any more about how great the Haren trade was just based on him and Eveland, much less Gonzalez, Carter and Anderson. Not that there isn’t value in 4th-5th LH starters, but for that trade to really be an excellent one for Oakland, those younger players are going to have to make it so.

Offense doesn't doubt me, but my first and primemost thing is defense and punt return and kickoff return

The recent Beane trades

seemed to have been regarded as great simply because Beane has made crazy deals in the past and has them work out wonderfully. That doesn’t seem to be the case this season.

I don't understand the thought process of Beane right now

I mean, he’s trading guys that are 4 years away from FA or signed to really good long-term contracts. What’s the freakin point? They’ll be a part of your future when your minor league stars are ready to compete

by FirebatM3 on Aug 31, 2008 5:51 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

His thinking

is that they are going to be within 2 years of FA when they are ready to compete which makes them not part of the future. I don’t understand though why you trade them though unless you are getting blown away. Trading them in 2 years seems like it would net you the same value you get now.

yay fantasy

as i mentioned, this was the day to decide who makes the playoffs, being in 7th place by a game with 6 making the playoffs.

hitters: 1.223 ops, 3 HR,
pitchers: 2.22 era, .92 whip, 1 win, 18ks in 15.2 innings and a save.

might be enough to get me in since i was very close.
thanks CC!

Solid

14k. Fucking. Gold.

The Star Trek one should become a staple of happy times…. if only there were more of them.

Aikman and Bradshaw?

Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

A couple things...

How many 4-3 9 inning games last almost 4 1/2 hours?

How many pretty good starts is this in a row by Rangers pitching? 5, 6, 7?
