Rangers-Yankees Series Prediction Thread

We're 6 games out of the Wild Card.  This series has the potential to knock us out of the race entirely or keep us in the discussion.  Given how excited I am that we are playing meaningful games this late into the year, each series becomes that much more intriguing.  With that, I want to try this out for a few series and measure the overall sentiment of how Rangers fans believe we will perform in each series down the stretch.   With that, please vote in the poll and leave comments if you like.  The poll closes after the first pitch tonight.

Here are the matchups:

Mon 8/4 Padilla vs. Chamberlain

Tues 8/5  Harrison vs. Pettitte

Wed 8/6 Hunter vs. Ponson

Thur 8/7 Feldman vs. Mussina

Rangers will

Win today, lose tomorrow then win the next two.

How's Dshep's ass taste?

if bradley is healthy

i can see us doing a lot of damage at the plate. but i predict at least one hunter/harrison/feldman will have like a 6 run, 3 inning performance that we’ll lose. So 3-1 or 2-2.

Hunter vs. Ponson

Those are some big men on the mound. Hope ESPN cameras are ready.

Of course I'd like to see the Rangers sweep 'em

But I’ll live with a split (or better) so long as we beat the ever loving hell out of Ponson. Just to avoid the embarrassment of losing to another pitcher we sent out on a rail.

Is it just me.....

.... or do these pitchers kind of mirror each other a little bit, I mean Padilla vs. Joba- a couple of hard throwers that dont give a beep about anybody and will throw the ball any where any time and not think twice about it.
Harrison vs. Pettite- I think Pettite is a realistic candidate for what Harrison can turn into, not saying he’s even close yet but eventually could be a nice goal
Ponson vs. Hunter- OK I dont want Hunter to turn into Ponson haha, but two BIG guys that throw a lot of strikes, I do think Hunter has WAY more upside than Ponson has left but funny watching these two go head to head, and in a fight Hunters Judo vs. Ponson and his whiskey bottle, Hunter wins by Judo chop to the Spine
and finally Mussina vs. Feldman- I think Feldman has the ability to become a Moose type pitcher, but probably not near the level moose has been at for so long, and maybe the closest Scooter ever comes to being like Moose is that he cant win 20 games either, I do like our matchups though
playing against 3 righties, and a bullpen that is mostly righty I think we have a legitimate shot at winning the series

If Harrison turns into Pettite than

that Texiara deal would become one of the greatest steals in sports history

1-3

We’ll get to Ponson.

Have to say I don’t have high hopes against Chamberlain but I think that could be ripe for taking.

Going to the game today – wish me no heat stroke.

we got to Chamberlain in New York...

...Mussina too. we didn’t score in the first inning off him, but i do remember he threw 33 pitches or so in the first frame…

so, you’re Ron Washington. are you expecting Joba and Moose to come out throwing strikes? do you let Ian, Mike and Josh swing early in the count… instead of taking pitches like they did in New York?

this series is all about adjustments.

Matchups look okay to me

but that is partially because the Yanks starting pitching is as mediocre as ours is bad.

We have our one decent pitcher (Padilla) going up against Joba – 60% chance of winning
Harrison / Pettite – probably the Yankees easiest win – I hate facing lefties – 25% chance of winning
Hunter / Ponson – I don’t see Sidney doing much – 75% chance of winning
Feldman / Mussina – Moose is too old, Feldman is one of our better shots, 75% chance.

.6+.25+.75+.75=2.35 wins. Because I’m a homer, I voted 3/4

problem with the last game is

that mussina is having an outstnading year even though he is old. More like a 30% chance of winning.

Padilla vs. Joba – Joba doesn’t stand a chance against our patient lineup- 90% chance of winning

Harrison vs. Pettite- Harrison is pitching and we’re facing a lefty…-5% chance of winning

Hunter vs. Ponson-Hunter will pitch pretty good but i think ponson will too- 60 % chance of winning

Feldman vs. Mussina-Same matchup as the one on June 30th and Mussina will struggle because we’ll hit his breaking ball and Feldman wont make stupid errors-70% chance of winning

Feliz and Hurley. The 1-2 punch of the future

only chances are against Jobba the But and Pondscum

don’t like the rangers chances at all against lefty Pettite, and only 50/50 against Moose

Joba

This is anecdotal, but it seems like young pitchers don’t do well in Arlington their first time here. This is especially true during the hot summer months.

Signature! I don't need no stinking signature!!
