OT: Favre to the Jets
Per ESPN, first reported by FoxSports.com:
The Brett Favre era in Green Bay apparently came to an end late Wednesday as the longtime Packers star quarterback was traded to the New York Jets, FoxSports.com reported.
The trade, believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season, was confirmed by ESPN's Michael Smith on Wednesday night.
Glad this is over. I think everyone was sick of this story. And now the Jets...still aren't that good.

Dude
The Jets are not that bad of a team. They have a good young OL and a good set of recievers and tight ends. They added a bunch of nice pieces this offseason on the defense. They will make the playoffs this year with Brett easily.

Minnesota
Apparently the trade had a conditional clause that stated if the Jets traded him to the Vikings, the Packers would receive the Jets next 3 first round picks.

If you were to put Aikman
into the GB system, I guarantee that he would have numbers similar to Farve. The 90’s Cowboys didnt need to rely on a passing game to win, but with the talent Aikman had, he couldve gone for 4000 yards in so many seasons. My best example comes back in that 94 Championship game. Dallas got stuck in a big hole early, 21-0. But then rode Aikman back into the game and if not for an obvious pass interference that was not called followed by an unsportsmanlike conduct on Irvin for arguing, Dallas wouldd’ve had the ball inside the SF 10 with 6 minutes to go and trailing by only 10. As it is, Aikman and Irvin put together a great show on the field.

If you were to put Favre
on the Cowboys he’d probably have 5 rings.
We saw what Aikman could do in his early 30s, when they needed to rely more on the passing game, and it jsut wasn’t there.

no way
Farve would have been nowhere near ready to win in 92 and 93. Plus, that Dallas team was a shadow of its former self after 95.

Best QBs of all-time
Favre is #5 imo.
Montana, Young, Elway, Unitas and Favre. Not sure how the top 4 should go, but I’m comfortable with Favre #5. FWIW, I’m a lifelong Packer fan.
He’s better than Marino, with similar stats. Marino is #6.
Manning and Brady haven’t finished their careers yet. They need to go through their downward slide years and play with lesser talent to really compare them. One or both might push Favre to #6 or #7, but we need 8 +/- years to determine this.
No one else is even in the conversation as to who is better than Favre. Not Aikman, not Bradshaw, not Starr, not Starbauch.
So, there you go. Favre #5 till Manning and Brady are done and then we’ll see where they rank.

Tough for me
to put Young ahead of Favre. I thought he underachieved with some strong SF teams.
Tough for me to compare anyone of Unitas’ era with the current guys. Everyone was only throwing for 200 or so yards a game, probably because you could beat the crap out of the receivers.
Personally, I think Favre is a little better than Elway, but that’s quibbling amongst great QBs. I think they are fairly close.
I’d concede Montana tho.

I easily put Young ahead of Favre, easily. His numbers are insane compared to all other QBs. Plus he had the physical and mental tools. Scout-wise, stats-wise Young was better, imo.
Elway and Favre are very similar. I’ll give Elway the nod with an extra ring and about as many years of great play. Favre might have Elway on peak though, with his 3 MVPs in a row.
Montana is tough, he has the rings, but not completely certain he has the tools. I haveno problem conceding Montana, though.
Agreed with UNitas. I wouldnt’ have a problem with him #3 nor would I have a problem with him out of the top 10. So I’m fine with just about wherever he is.
I am comfortable and confident in saying that no one outside the top 6 I listed (ignoring Manning and Brady for now) is even close to Favre. Of that I have no question.

We'll have to disagree on Young
I think his stop at TB, and his lack of rings with a great team showed him to be a system QB, who flourished in that system.

But I think they have a chance, because Brian Schotteheimer has shown glimpses.
