That sucks
cause it means we passed on the chance to get a guy who would’ve really, really helped us this year and next.
Take Giles out of Petco and put him in the RBiA and you’ve got quite a player.
Damn.
Wonder if the Pads will just let him go.

Well
Giles can veto a trade to Boston.
I doubt San Diego would just let him walk. I expect the price for them to part with him would not be insignificant.
And I doubt the Rangers would be willing to give up the pieces necessary to get Giles. My guess is that no claim was put in because it would be an exercise in futility, and would just serve to irritate another team’s front office.

That makes sense, I guess
I just figured with Giles being expensive (though I remember him being more expensive than he is… 9mil for next season seems like a frigging bargain to me) the Pads would be willing to let him go cheaply to a team willing to take on the whole salary.

$9 million
With a $3 million buyout, which means it only costs you $6 million to exercise the option.

HOW THE F

Question
How many waiver claims do you think the Rangers are going to make?
Particularly on guys whom they pretty well know they are not going to be willing to pay the price to get, if they do win the waiver claim?

you wouldnt be willing to pay the price
for a guy thats under control for next year and K’s 7.5-8 batters per 9, doesnt walk a lot, and has a 1.2 whip? I’ve always liked that guy.
Just wondering what you think it might take to get him? or do you think they would just pull him back and not trade him? OR do think there is a chance since he has already cleared we would be able to deal Cruz for him? ??

His velocity is down 3.6 mph from '06.
‘Nuff said…sounds like an injury waiting to happen.

maybe he is throwing more offspeed stuff
maybe he needed to slow it down to get the kind of movement he needed, have you seen his numbers this year?

When they say
his velocity is down, they’re talking about the same pitch, not averaging all of his pitches.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

What is the price?
What are the Mets going to want to let you have him, versus just pulling him back?
And again, there are probably 100 players on waivers every day the first few days after July 31…how many of those guys do you want to put in a claim for?
