Rangers are the only team in the MLB without....

a 3 or more game sweep. Almost every team had at least one sweep by May and the latest a team got their first sweep was in June. EVEN THE MARINERS HAVE ONE.........Its pretty amazing that we can start off with a 9-18 record and then go to 6 games above .500 and still not have a sweep or a 5 game winnings streak. I guess the reason we dont have one is that we dont have consistent pitching...or just pitching general. I wonder if a team has ever gone a season without completing a sweep, maybe the 50-win Tigers? I knew we didnt have a sweep but i had no idea every team had a sweep by early june. well at least we are overacheiving....

The best hitting team

Will have a one or two game falloff every so often. The “no sweep” syndrome is just about offset by the fact that the Rangers have only been shut out twice in over a hundred games. But yeah, without two ace types supplemented by two innings eaters, chances of any streak, even a four game sweep, are pretty dim.

Quick, somebody call Joe Morgan

And let him in on this awesome new way of judging a teams success: how many sweeps they have by august. Because you’re nobody until you’ve swept somebody.

A bit harsh.

to be fair

if LSJ had made the same fanpost, probably four or five people would rush to tell him that he was a moron for thinking it was important. He’s just doing unto others as others have done unto him.

And I almost

posted exactly that point. There’s too much of that in general here.

To be fairer

When you have more posts than anybody on the site (by a few thousand) you are just asking for it.

Well, if you want to be ultimately fair

That award goes to Miles, with 11157 comments – and 231 fanposts to back it up. That’s the most I’ve seen by any one person here who doesn’t go by the name Adam J Morris.

Personally I think LSJ does take a little more than his fair share of crap around here (and he’s not the only one either) but I do agree he posts… a lot.

That is a little sad

You’d think a couple of 18-20 year guys would have more exciting things to do than be posting on a baseball blog.

Lack of sweeps

This is true, but how many series have the Rangers’ won 2/3. If were numbers to track that, I’d guess we’d be in the top 2 or 3.

Plaschke: Scioscia, the former Dodgers catcher, is the model manager who has created an atmosphere of winning.
Junior:It's that simple. Mike Scioscia brings a Glade Plug-In labeled "Winning™" into the clubhouse and everyone who breathes it in gains 15 points in average.

PITCHING

thats why they can’t win more than 2 or 3 in a row, and then one of the rare times they get pitching (last night) they can’t hit in the clutch because they have a manager who can’t make out a lineup to match the pitcher.

Who

would rather Washington have played against Mussina? Would you have rather tried Saltalamacchia out there instead of Laird? The Rangers don’t have a lineup available right now that could have faced Mussina better.

not true...

we did have a 5 game winning streak in early may.

Yeah, that was when the 33-inning shutout streak was, too...

Lost the opener of a four-game series against Seattle, won the next three, then won the first two out of three against Oakland.

it may not be a measure of greatness

but the lack of sweeps is telling that our pitching is not consistent enough to sustain winning streaks – not that we need “sweeps” to tell us this – just another example that our SP is not good enough to be a real contender

Team chemistry trumps all!!!!
