Olympics No Baseball?
I am rather confused. I thought remembered that they dropped baseball as a sport for the next couple Olympics cycles. Then the US Olympic team including Teagarden was announced, so I thought maybe it was reinstated. But then during the opening ceremony they said it was not an event. So what is going on? Is Teagarden on some symbolic made up team?

Ok they are playing.
They clearly said there was no baseball at the this Olympics during the intro of Cuba. Very strange.
On ESPNs baseball page for the Olympics (aka baseball for dummies). Check this out.

“STARS
Nolan Ryan (United States)
A nightmare for hitters. The fastball throwing Texan holds the all-time record for strike-outs with 5,714 ending his career toward the end of the 1990’s.
Babe Ruth (United States)
A legend. The star of the New York Yankees helped his team win three World Series’ and hit an average of 40 home runs per season over 12 years. One of the legends of baseball.
Hank Aaron (United States)
The star of the Atlanta Braves beat Babe Ruth’s home run record blasting number 715 in 1974. At the end of his 23-year career between 1954 and 1976, his record stands at 755 and has yet to be broken.”
Nolan!

This is the last year
Then it is cancelled in 2012. It is eligible to be in 2016 but work still has to be done.

HP
is the home to the great coach, Randy Allen. I went to Abilene Cooper when Coach Allen was there. He built our program up and took us to the state championship game in 1996 behind Dominic Rhodes, who was the 5A player of the year that year. We got beat by Drew Brees and Austin Westlake. I am happy to see Coach Allen having so much success. Great guy. Great, great coach.

Baseball in Olympics 2012
The decision was made in 2005 by the IOC after a secret ballot of international members in Singapore. Their reasoning was that is is not a Worldwide sport, but Cuba and Latin America blames the US major league owners for not freeing up major league players to participate (like basketball). In order for a player to be sent to the Olympics he cannot be on the 40 man roster. I don’t see MLB sending prime players for 2 weeks during the month of August when so many teams are in contention. It’s a complicated issue, but hopefully will be resolved and baseball can be reinstated for the 2016 games. As far as softball is concerned though, I don’t understand what that has to do with anything, the game is played in over 126 countries and should have remained in the games for 2012. Since it might be 8 years or so, hope Team USA brings home the Gold!

Eligibility
My mistake, consideration for eligibility is a player who is not active on a 25-man roster. One of the articles I read said 40. But, it’s 25.
