Teagarden, Duran on the way.
According to Evan Grant of the DMN, Taylor Teagarden and German Duran will be first of the September callups to arrive.
It appears Taylor Teagarden and German Duran will be the Rangers initial September 1 callups. Duran returned to the Oklahoma lineup Sunday for the first time since tearing ligaments in his thumb. He was 2-for-3.

Teagarden
Why are bringing him up? We already have 2 young catchers fighting for playing time, and Teagarden has struggled in AAA this year. I don’t understand this move at all.

showcase him?
I don’t really know either. They way they’re handling the roster has been very confusing as of late.

Maybe because Laird and Salts stink.
I’ve lost all faith in Salts and really wouldn’t be suprised if he were a throw in on a deal this winter instead of the centerpiece.
And Laird has been in a slump right? So why not bring him up and try and give him some ML experience.

Salty
He has had a disappointing season but is still 3 years younger than Teagarden. There is no way I’d write him off at this point.
Teagarden is the one (with Laird) that I would be actively trying to trade. I just don’t have much faith in his bat at his age. I’d much rather have Salty and Max.

.912 ops since the all star break
and his caught stealing percentage has raised nearly 100 points and is now only well below average instead of hideous =)
granted, its only 51 at bats since hes not being used.

math?
there Is one and a half years difference, so going off your math your statement loses all validity, and everyone should go ahead and ignore the rest of your comments until you learn simple addition and subtraction!

Whoah there
Somebody forget their coffee this morning?
We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.

he isn’t going to be a “throw in”. they would sooner hold on to him.

Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how the playing time is handled
I don’t have a problem with seeing Teagarden, but this looks like a PT-management nightmare just waiting to happen.
Logically, they should sit the 28 year old with the 624 OPS since July and play the two young guys, but we all know Ron Washington luvs him some “veterans” and doesn’t want to piss off the 28 year old with the 624 OPS since July.
Yup… this is gonna be a headache.

catching
does anyone has a sad suspicion that of the four catchers we have, none will really ever develop into the “complete package”? I think all will show flashes, and all will find roles as useful big league players, but i don’t see a complete catcher in the big four.
by clark on Sep 1, 2008 10:31 AM CDT 0 recs
depends on what you mean
very possible none of them could not develop into all star types, but i think the only one who wont be a decent starting mlb catcher for at least their prime years is possibly max. Of course, max also has the best backup plan by being the best hitting prospect of the group.

Honestly,
there are only three complete catchers in the game IMO. Martin, Mauer and you still have to throw Pudge in there despite his age.

It makes about as much sense to
list Johnny Bench among today’s complete catchers as it does Pudge.
Offense doesn't doubt me, but my first and primemost thing is defense and punt return and kickoff return
