Really?

I said that when the inning started.

Why do you pull Loe after 3 pitches?

It doesn’t make sense.

by Adam J. Morris on Sep 1, 2008 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions

well, you're saving yourself there

it could have went either way when he came back into the game….there’s been several instances where it went one way or the other. Luis should have been able to get these guys out…he hasn’t

"Popularity is fleeting. Principles are forever."

by Longhorn on Sep 1, 2008 9:17 PM CDT up reply actions

that's BS

Wash pulled Loe for Mendoza after only 3 pitches. They are both groundball pitchers who are right handed. Loe has been dominant in relief and was absolutely beasty in that last AB. There is absolutely no reason to pull him for anyone.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

by Gdawg on Sep 1, 2008 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions

so?

because of a few ABs we disregard everything else he’s done. Nice.

exactly

There is just no point to use Loe for only 3 pitches when you aren’t even trying any L/L/ or R/R match-up there.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

by Gdawg on Sep 1, 2008 9:24 PM CDT up reply actions

If you wanted Mendoza in the game...

…put him in in the 7th.

I have a problem pulling someone who has been effective after 3 pitches. If you didn’t trust him to pitch the 7th, you shouldn’t have put him in with 2 outs in the 6th.

True...recommendations are tough.

I say check out the first one at a library or buy it cheap. Then if you hate it, you aren’t committed to the whole series. I don’t usually get into the whole fantasy thing. At all. But this series has enough realism and romance tied in that I love it. Although I don’t know why I keep reading romance…I guess I like believing it exists. Ha ha.

This LaRussa-ian habit of using relievers for only a batter or two at a time, I have a problem with. If you have an effective pitcher out there, don’t pull him after a batter or two. Every time you go to the pen, you increase the odds of bringing someone into the game who doesn’t have it that night.

by Longhorn on Sep 1, 2008 10:29 PM CDT up reply actions

How many innings of relief is that based on?

Mendoza has spent most of the season as a starter, and has maybe pitched 10 innings of relief all season, where as Kam has pitched 20.

Loe – 20 IP, 20 H, 11 R, 5 ER, 3 HR, 3 BB, 11 K, 2.29 ERA

Meanwhile, Mendoza’s overall line (again, most of it as a starter)
Mendoza – 54 IP, 78 H, 60 R, 47 ER, 7 HR, 20 BB, 29 K, 7.83 ERA

Regardless, I still believe it was the WRONG decision to pull Loe after a three-pitch strikeout with men in scoring position. He has proven lately that he can get out of tough situations and deserved to get another inning of relief work.

What happened???????????

Just got home, tirned on the game and see 12-6, after all the good pitching the last week. This is the first sign that the season is finally over…won’t .500 at this rate.

Well, the first 6 innings where actually pretty good

Matt Harrison was okay, and Taylor Teagarden had blasted his second career home run in the 5th. But then Ron Washington inexplicably took Kameron Loe (who had just been used to get out of a jam 6th with just 3 pitches) out in favor of Luis Mendoza at the start of the 7th, and well…

typical ranger game

the starter leaves with the lead even though he let in a lot of runs.
Washington shows his ability to handle a bullpen.
The Rangers think Mendoza is good despite him being average in the minors and boasting a 8+ era so they put him in and lets in a billion runs
The offense does good but just gives up after they are down by 6.

well at least Salty got hurt, hopefully the same happens with Mendoza

If you keep trading for "prospects"

you don’t ever have to worry about performance at the major league level.

Right?

As long as BP ranks us 3rd or 4th in prospects, there will always be plenty of people to carry the water for JD.

under what definition are feliz and holland (among others) not good prospects?/

you should have said good MLB pitchers or something, because as wrong as that may be (hopefully) at least its not factually incorrect yet.

that kid

looks legit. hitting .337 and taking more walks (although i think tonight’s was a 4 pitch affair against a pitcher who was very wild). i think there is a pretty good chance he is with the big league club by july of next season.

if the Rangers are to lose

why not to the mariners. it means they are less likely to take that stud pitcher in the draft. also, games like this mean it is less likely we have ron washington as a manager next year.

i consider those two very positive things to come out of tonight.

at this point, if we can get a top 10 pick, I’d be pretty stoked.

by FirebatM3 on Sep 1, 2008 10:14 PM CDT up reply actions

as would i

truth be told, the only joy i have ever gotten from this franchise in the past two decades was from their farm system. they typically draft well, especially of late. it is really one of the few areas in which their management has shown anything resembling competence.

by clark on Sep 1, 2008 10:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I mainly want a top 10

because that puts us ahead of the National’s 2nd pick.

That and this draft is filled with college players, with probably the top 7-8 prospects being college guys.

more fantasy escapades

first game of the playoffs.

so i have holliday, bradley, manny, hamilton and thome for 3 OF spots and utility. Hamilton is struggling, so i bench him for the first time in a looong time. He goes 2/5 with a HR, the other 4 combined go 2 for 13 with nothing.

my only two pitchers are relievers who both blow saves with a 13.5 era.

meanwhile my oppoonent got 3 homeruns and 2 great starts.
looks like im not long for this serason.

by FirebatM3 on Sep 1, 2008 11:15 PM CDT up reply actions

i think he's a really good coach

he’s won a national championship and continues to recruit well, he just doesn’t have the QB he’s had in the past this year…and Foster is mr. fumblitis.

I'm not so sure

when you’ve consistently had pretty good skilled position players and decent O-lines, but can’t be creative enough to carry your QB, I don’t think you can say he’s a really good coach.
