Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Dirk Atron, Fire Bat, and Long Horn

D.A., F.B., and L.H.,

Just to let you know, I recorded my final two Jumbotron prospect packages of the season this morning.  Marcus Devon Lemon (and Mitchell A. Moreland) will be featured between innings during the Rangers' final homestand.

Please do Lemon the justice of a standing ovation if you're at the yard when his video airs.  I'll come by and buy you a beer or a soda pop.

Jamey

heh

Alas, I live a bit far away to make it to the ballpark these days.

Is there a way to find those stadium reports and watch them on the interwebs?

Last year there was.

But they haven’t been posting those on the MLB site this year.

Maybe I’ll get an email file of Lemon’s and share it here.

Jamey, I seem to remember you’re a fan.

http://popsongs.wordpress.com/2008/09/11/encore-ask-michael-stipe/

The guy writes a great blog, but Michael Stipe opening himself up to explaining his own lyrics seems unique in the decades history of REM. Pretty amazing coup for fluxblog.

Ticket prices...

…I wanted to get a Common/N.E.R.D. ticket at House of Blues and they were like $55. Um, what? No thanks. I’ll stick to the Black Keys at the Granada.

I’ll be there at the granada myself. Can’t wait

Hey

I’d rather see Black Keys, all the way.

With Common and NERD you’re paying for the celebrity factor (whether Pharell is actually up to that level).

Yeah, I would too.

I just saw them at Lollapalooza and I was shocked at how full of a sound they get from one drum kit, one guitar and one voice. It sounds really cool. Lots of really cool shows coming up:

Ratatat – 9/16 – Granada
Silver Jews – 9/20 – Hailey’s
Hot Chip – 9/25 – Palladium
Black Keys – 9/26 – Granada
Neko Case – 9/27 – Granada
Sunset Rubdown – 9/29 – Granada
Cut Copy/Presets – 9/30 – Granada
Ra Ra Riot/Walter Meego – 10/2 – The Loft
Cat Power – 10/9 – Palladium
Say Hi – 10/12 – Hailey’s
Magnetic Fields – 10/13 – Majestic
Girl Talk – 10/21 – Palladium
TV On the Radio – 10/28 – Lakewood Theater
Of Montreal – 11/14 – House of Blues

by FuturePants on Sep 12, 2008 4:35 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Don't forget Kings of Leon

I’ll be there and Cat Power.

Girl Talk would probably be fun too.

Fortunate thing about here

Is you can see most shows for a decent price. A lot of the stadium shows, you get shitty seats, but, for example, I’m seeing NIN in a few weeks for $30 US.

At the moment...

Not much.

My wife’s Argentine and so we came because there were some family issues that required her to be.

I’ve been attending the American university here, just filling out some basic courses, but this semester, we weren’t sure about whether or not I’d be here all year, so I didn’t go.

I work part time with her business(database work for their magazine), but I’ve been looking for full time English speaking work (hasn’t always been easy).

Dammit.

At some point I’m going to spend more than 20 hours reading through this guy’s blog (aside from awaiting Stipe’s weigh-in).

Thanks for the heads-up.

OT: Any fellow headbangers here? If so...

Holy shit Metallica is BACK.

New album came out today and it rocks. I’m one of the few that didn’t mind their recent stuff, but it wasn’t nearly as good as the old stuff either.

The first, fifth, and tenth tracks are pure metal greatness and the rest of the album is very good as well including some nice solo’s. One complaint would be Unforgiven III? I guess song sequels are like movie sequels, not very good. Other than that great album. Any old Metallica fans should go get it you won’t be disappointed. I’d say it sounds like a mixture of Lightning, Master, and the Black Album. Good stuff.

I'll check it out

but even if they are back to their early years, I still can’t ever like them after they sold out so badly.

How are Hetfield's vocals?

I really wish he would go back to just yelling. Those were the songs that were awesome. Now he’s trying to sing, and it’s really killing Metallica’s bread and butter (kickass guitars and drums).

by ghtd36 on Sep 12, 2008 6:09 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

His vocals are better...

on this album. However there is still a mixture of old and new. There are a couple tracks where it sounds like he’s still trying to sing, but there are a couple tracks where he is just screaming like the James of old.

I’ve now listened to the album 3 straight times in the last few hours, and I’m really digging it. The 5th track “All Nightmare Long” is just fucking great, and the first and last tracks aren’t far behind. There are some really long songs like “Master”, “Battery”, or “One” that are pretty heavy and when it sounds like they are going to stop then they kick up again. Hammett has some really good solo’s and Lars has some kick ass drum beats in there as well. I’m very pleased with this album, especially after the last few that I thought were ok, but nothing great.

Yes you will...

and yes you should.

Seriously, I understand how many where really down on Metallica after their last few albums and the whole napster shit. James had some serious issues going on and I really did think he and Lars where just going to call it quits there for a while. After hearing this album I’m glad they didn’t. I wouldn’t want them to end it after any of their last 3 albums.

Give it a whirl, you won’t be disappointed.
