Thursday a.m. things
Well, I'm glad I missed yesterday's game. The ongoing Luis Mendoza saga continues...I don't get how someone who can look so good sometimes can be so godawful so often. In terms of VORP, Mendoza has been the worst player in baseball this year.
Joaquin Arias had an MRI that shows that he still has scar tissue from his shoulder surgery, and could have surgery this offseason to deal with that.
Not much else out there this morning. Sorry.

ugh mendoza
I’ve stuck with you through all the bad outings and even through the haircut but I think I am officially off your wagon now.
Mendoza...
I wouldn’t have said this a month ago, but I’m done with him now. The guy just looks horrible out there. I can’t see him staying on the 40 next year. He’s just terrible. Let him go.

Ditto
I supported giving him a chance, but he’s kind of shit all over his chance. He just doesn’t look like he has any confidence or ever will out there.
Don't you know it's gonna be alright?
Personally...
…I’d stick him in Oklahoma next season, all year, and tell him to work on his command and his demeanor, and he’s not coming back to Texas until September, at the earliest.
He’s got two options remaining after this season, and has the stuff that makes it worth hanging onto him, I think.

Oklahoma
Problem is that if Mendoza gets recalled to Arlington, Ron Washington will put him in games. See also: Jamey Wright, Joaquin Benoit.

Agreed, because there was some success earlier in the season.
Right now his confidence is shattered and every outing he takes is not productive for his future.

Right
I wouldn’t advocate dumping him, obviously. But I agree that he is not an option for the rotation next year unless every other starter gets the plague. They will always need depth and emergency arms.
Don't you know it's gonna be alright?
IOW
you wouldn’t want to Galaragga him?

At the time
Galarraga was lost I would rather have given up Mendoza, though I didn’t cry too hard about Galarraga either. Hopefully they can massage the roster through trades, etc. so they don’t lose anyone this winter, though they may face a couple of tough decisions.
Don't you know it's gonna be alright?
Watch Mendoza go to some other team for practically free and then find his groove.
Then we get to listen to another year of how “boy blunder” can’t identify pitching talent and never should have let Mendoza go.
If Mendoza does that, I'll eat my hat

Mendoza
I think I would be willing to take that chance. I think it is better than 50-50 next year he repeats as the leagues worst pitcher.
you won’t hear me say that. If someone wants Mendoza for a nickle lets see the money.

By far the worst
WOW, not only is he the worst, he is by far the worst. He is worse than the guy who owns the highest ERA (in major league history, not for just this season) for anyone with more than 75 inning pitched, John Van Benschoten. At least we aren’t Baltimore who has 3 of the worst 12, we only have 2 of the worst 12.

Stash him at AAA
That is definitely the prudent thing to do for 2009. How good could OKC be next season with a rotation of: Mendoza, Hunter, Holland, and Feliz. Well, at least until August 1st when we bring up Holland, Feliz and maybe Hunter.
Go Cubbies and Go Rangers!
Others:
Gabbard, Hurley, probably one of Harrison and McCarthy.
There might just not be room, although it sounds good to stick him in the AAA bullpen too.

"Stash him at AAA"...
perhaps, but I still think you need to get him off the 40 even if you are going to do that. If someone claims him, then oh well.

If 1 start and a few bullpen appearences is enough to qualify as looking really good sometimes
every starter in baseball has looked really good at times.
the preceding post was a great success.
Leave it to a Ranger pitcher..
to create a new Mendoza line…get it together boy or you’re off to Japan with Jason Botts and all the other re-treads.
