Lots of talk
about what prospects could be beneficial next year at the start and later into the year. Bourbon, MaxRam.
What to do with the catches some more.
How Cruz has impacted the future of Bradley and if he is now expendable.
The mess OKC is in with all the injuries at the bigs.
Who really cares
about the mess OKC is in :)

Jamey, do you think Laird
is a much different player than Rod Barajas?
If so, how?
"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."
Seriously?
Better thrower.
More athletic behind the plate.
Much better approach at the plate.
Multi-dimensional offensively (runs better [takes the extra base, more difficult to double up) and bunts better than most catchers).
Four years younger.
(And certainly pops up less.)

Performance wise
they are more similar than you seem to think. Their BB% is separated by a whole .2% (adv Laird) and K% is separated by 1.1% careerwise (Adv. barajas). Out of zone swinging (not really a great measure of discipline, but what have you) is 4% difference, so big, but not too important.
All in all, RC/27 is 4.01 (Laird vs. 3.92).
Laird does have a significant career advantage in CS% (not so much this year), but he also has a significantly fewer amount of WP/PB/game. So while Laird might be awesome and a lot more athletic, it doesn’t really show up in his performance.
Yep
at the end of the day, there really isn’t a big difference between the two offensively. Defensively, at least Barajas knew how to frame a pitch. Watching Laird give away 3-4 balls a game is maddening.

bah
to clear it up
Barajas has significantly fewer WP/PB per game. While some guys tend to have higher WP/PB because of pitching staff, size or whatnot, it’s kinda amazing that Laird’s is higher than, among others, Victor Martinez, Brian McCann, and Mike Piazza.
On the plus side, he’s not nearly as bad as someone like Benji Molina or Salty this year.
Barajas has 11 Win Shares this year
while Laird has 10 Win Shares (courtesy Hard Ball Times thru 9/7).
They have a few differences like any two players do but as for what they give their teams, to me I don’t see much difference in the value they bring their teams.

Well
what am I missing. Granted that defensive evaluation is a pretty hard game, but it seems to me that Gerald Laird is a guy that allows an unusually high amount of PB/WP for a guy who’s supposedly really athletic and there’s been very little difference between career C-ERA of Laird vs. that of a guy like Saltalamacchia.
If he is really better and a really awesome leader, shouldn’t we see that reflected in one part of his performance?
Nice 'cast.
