Fun Ranger HBP facts
There have been 68 times in the A.L. this season where a batter has been hit on an 0-2 count.
With 14 A.L. teams, that means the average team would have done that 5 times this season. The Rangers have hit a batter on an 0-2 count 9 times.
The A.L. has seen 35 bases loaded HBPs this season, an average of 2.5 per team. The Rangers have 4.
Quite honestly, I was surprised to look up the numbers and see that those things had happened as seldom to the Rangers as they have. It seems like there have been twice as many bases loaded HBPs this year.

Lack of control
I’m sure the Rangers could have hit more guys if they had better control.

LOL. Reminds me of something Bob Gibson said...
…something along the lines of “I hit some guys I didn’t mean to but I never missed anyone I was trying to hit.”

"Foul Ups????"
Apparently someone watched that movie on network television. I remember watching an edited version of Pulp Fiction. I’ve never seem so many gratuitous uses of the phrase “Mother Hubber.”

Jonathan Greene...
Since we’re on the subject of HBP’s, does anybody here know what Clinton 3B Jonathan Greene’s stance looks like? I mean, if a player drew a walk on 6.72% of his plate appearances (PA) that would be considered pretty solid. Greene, however, gets an HPB on 6.72% of his PA’s (36 HBP’s in 536 PA’s).
The only non-Boxer that I’ve ever heard of who was hit that hard and often was Tina Turner, and at least with Turner there was a good reason (OBVIOUSLY Ike loved her too much and she wouldn’t acknowledge it). So what gives with Greene?

Tangential point
A 6.72% walk rate is not solid. Midwest League average was 8.2%.
There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight"... is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war. -- Andrew Klavan

This entry...
lacks control. These stats are anything but “fun.”

The irony may be
That Padilla isn’t the cheif offender. He and his reputation may hit more batters on purpose, or from working heavily inside, but probably not among the accidental “awshit” lapses.
