Not that I'm a Botts defender

but whenever they used to call him up they would immediately bat him clean up, which I always thought was a bit stupid. Now with Davis we go the complete opposite, he’s proven he can hit a little bit, but we leave him hitting 9th.

Further evidence that our manager is sort of clueless.

Slow threads

Other SBN sites that I’ve seen only let the comments get to around 250 or so. LSB goes to around 500 which doesn’t really help. I don’t blame AJM though, I wouldn’t want to make a new thread every 250 comments.

every 250 and we would have ended up with 9 threads during the biggest games wiping out the entire front page 0.o

i remember mench and wilkerson not being happy missing time. hows that working out for them.
lairds decent but its not that hard to see him getting less than 50% playing time on a team within a couple years and we will see how he feels then.

I haven’t seen anyone say that he’d be GG caliber at 3rd. It’s just that there is really nowhere else to put him unless you want to sacrifice your DH spot for him.

MY has no trade value

Because of his piss-poor defense and silly contract. He can’t hang at SS anymore, and 3B is also a terrible choice. 2B is the only possibility for better infield improvement.

You just go from a SS with no range to a 2B with no range. How is that any better than an inexperienced 3B?

Is an improvement over what we have up the middle right now. Still need a 3B though. I want Beltre for that, if the price is right.

Can’t put him in the OF, we’ve already got Hammy, Murphy, Boggs, Byrd and eventually Borbon out there… but we’ve gotta get him off SS and they’re not gonna trade him.

I can’t see there’s any other course of action, myself.

Looks excellent

He has excellent command of three pitches tonight. He is locating his fastball very well and getting ahead in the count. His fastball is still sitting around 89-91, but his curveball has been very consistent. He has also mixed his pitches very well.

This looks like the McCarthy we were expecting two years ago. When his command is strong like it is tonight, McCarthy looks like a #2 or #3 starter.

eyewitnesses, how did he look tonight? it looks like his fastball barely hit 90…so was this just an average pitcher against a poor offensive team, or does his offspeed stuff allow him to be effective without a better fastball?

Don’t worry about his fastball. The guy is 6’7". If his mechanics are in order and he is taking his full step he is releasing the pitch closer to the plate than normal pitchers. To the batter with his release point being higher than normal, due to his height, and the ball being thrown from a shorter distance, due to his height, that 89 mph fastball is probably equal to a 92/93 mph fastball from a normal sized pitcher.

All his K’s came on fastballs. He threw the curveball plenty tonight from what I saw though.
