Minors 9/3: The Playoffs

Didn't see anything posted yet. Maybe most people are actually at the games. Anyway looks like Holland got the start in game 1 for Frisco instead of Feliz. Maybe someone knows the reason. I would assume Feliz pitches game 2 but I don't know.

I wouldn't recommend anyone listen to the Kane County broadcast

perhaps the most ear-bleeding announcer I have ever heard.

by FirebatM3 on Sep 3, 2008 7:46 PM CDT   0 recs

err Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids are the Angels club, Kane County are the As one

A lot of pitches for Holland right now (relatively)

he’s at 52 through 3.

3IP, 1H, 1BB, 2K

I like this holland guy.

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

I am happy the big club didn't

want to play against the minor leaguers first playoff night.

I'm not listening....

Just wondering if those flyouts to Borbon last inning were deep or just cans of corn?

Oy

OKC falls apart, now down 7-2

by FirebatM3 on Sep 3, 2008 8:24 PM CDT   0 recs

That 6th inning was just hideous

As I said in another thread, I wanted to throw up. Or throw something. I don’t know what happened to Lizard, but he just didn’t have it.

P.S.

I do have a post up about the game here

I took some photos, but the weather was so dreary that a lot of my pictures came out grainy. I’m not thrilled with them.

showing his speed with a steal. He’s got both of the Lumberking’s hits.

I heard

that Tommy Hunter got hit in the face with a line drive and is in the hospital. His grandpa told me this. Anyone else have any info ?

by Mike E on Sep 3, 2008 8:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Whoa

that explains the blowup in OKC

by gamerabcd on Sep 3, 2008 8:31 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Blowup

Hunter isn’t pitching, Elizardo was the game 1 starter.

by FirebatM3 on Sep 3, 2008 8:32 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Excuse me

what game was he hit in the face? Seems the lizard is stinking up the joint in OKC.

by gamerabcd on Sep 3, 2008 8:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah it has nothing to

do with the score of todays game. He was pitching tomorrow.

All I was told was he was hit by a line drive ‘late today’ and is in the hospital and would update whenever he got his condition

by Mike E on Sep 3, 2008 8:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't think so

We would have heard about it by now.

Unless of course he was on the bench and was hit by a line drive. Could happen I suppose.

by Chris Hanes on Sep 3, 2008 8:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hunter

hurt during BP, Derek Lee apparently goes tomorrow.

by FirebatM3 on Sep 3, 2008 9:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Booooo

I was really looking forward to seeing Hunter pitch.

But I guess this explains why I didn’t see him anywhere in the dugout or bullpen tonight. I did see Ballard and some other guy charting pitches in the crowd though.

To update....

To update the situation…here’s what I was just told ..

“Tommy called and said he would be on the mound tomorrow night, He said the ball hit the bill of his cap and it then hit his head and knock him down backwards bumping the back of his head. They are getting a MRI and he looks to be release to play tomorrow.”

by Mike E on Sep 4, 2008 6:37 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

it looks like he won’t start tonight afterall.

I’m sure he’ll be fine…how’s the baseball?

94 in the 6th inning?

That bring hope for even more growth from the control specialist. Can someone please wakeup the offense. We need someone to get the starter out for Cedar Rapids.

I was just pointing out the pronunciation I’ve heard. I wish I had listened closer this past weekend. His brother was there and chatting him up occasionally, but he talked fast … and not in English.

Frisco announcer....

Sounds like Bill Mercer (for those old enough to remember him). I keep waiting to hear at any time that David Von Erich has put the “Iron Claw” on Kimala.

Garr and Laughter

has been pretty bad the last few games. They have no closer right now.

by FirebatM3 on Sep 3, 2008 9:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Why not use the talent in Baks

Some of these young guys that have been recovering from injuries would be perfect for role off bench. Get a taste of playoff ball and taste of higher level.

by gamerabcd on Sep 3, 2008 9:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

by bigsteve on Sep 3, 2008 9:26 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Still

he is the prize of the system. Is this Ryan’s theory of pushing the young guys in full effect. Get them to throw another 10 pitches to what they normally would. Yet, he did end his night with a hard fought K.

by gamerabcd on Sep 3, 2008 9:28 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

One game

I don’t agree with Nolans philosophy when it is stretched out over the course of a full season. But in certain situations I have no problem letting your top players play. Holland has been held in check enough this year that if they want to push him during a playoff game I have no problem with that. Same with Feliz tomorrow. They have held him back the last month or so but if they want to unleash him tomorrow thats fine. If they had been having him go 7 innings and 100+ pitches every start all year then yeah I would have a problem. But they are fine.

I repeat

according to JeffBrown on Newberg, Tommy Hunter was injured during BP. Mike E was correct.

by FirebatM3 on Sep 3, 2008 9:05 PM CDT   0 recs

only good thing about this is keeping him from over extending himself with more innings this year.

Alot to like from Beavans performance

He seemed to be a true gamer, keeps team in games. Not sure if he ever will have the dominating stuff which he was drafted for, but should be a serviceable 3 type for 15 plus yrs in the League.

I was at the Frisco game

and I have to say, WHERE THE HECK WERE THE FANS? I bet there wasn’t 2,000 there, for a playoff game? Anyway, Holland wasn’t “dominant” in the common sense with the K’s, but he looked pretty good. Had trouble throwing the change for strikes, but was still lighting the gun up at 95 for the last out of the 7th. The HR he gave up was a opp field shot that Majewski had bounce off his glove, roll along the top of the wall, and swept off by Borbon. The 2nd base ump called it a HR. Elvis made a hell of a play in the ?6th? going to his right in the hole and making a spectacular turn, jump and throw to get the guy at 1st. It was a very, very good play. Borobn and Murphy’s HR’s were both crushed over the berm in right (wind might have helped a little, but still very impressive). Before the game, I was watching Holland warm up in the pen, and his 2-seamer or cutter is absolutely nasty. Lots and lots of late movement and he was hitting whatever spot the pitching coach was telling him to hit with the fastball. I also got Neftali and Derek to sign a ball before the game. Hope that’s worth something someday.

by TxStCa on Sep 3, 2008 10:18 PM CDT   0 recs

Damn...

thanks for the report.

Both Neftali and Dutch autographs? Hold onto that shit it should be worth a lot. Unless of course, you want to trade it for by Jason Botts autographed ball!

by TxStCa on Sep 3, 2008 10:19 PM CDT   0 recs

After the HR allowed in the 8th

did you see Holland giving the hairy eyeball to the San Antonio dugout? Somebody musta said something Derek didn’t like. He even turned to look over his shoulder crossing the 3rd base line after he got yanked. Alpha Dawg.
