Frisco Playoffs Game 1 Review
Yeah, I posted all this in the minors 9/3 fanpost but I figured I'd make my own too, just incase no one saw the post in the other thread. Anyway, WHERE THE HECK WERE THE FANS? I bet there wasn’t 2,000 there, for a playoff game? Anyway, Holland wasn’t “dominant” in the common sense with the K’s, but he looked pretty good. Had trouble throwing the change for strikes, but was still lighting the gun up at 95 for the last out of the 7th. The HR he gave up was a opp field shot that Majewski had bounce off his glove, roll along the top of the wall, and swept off by Borbon. The 2nd base ump called it a HR. Elvis made a hell of a play in the ?6th? going to his right in the hole and making a spectacular turn, jump and throw to get the guy at 1st. It was a very, very good play. Borobn and Murphy’s HR’s were both crushed over the berm in right (wind might have helped a little, but still very impressive). Before the game, I was watching Holland warm up in the pen, and his 2-seamer or cutter is absolutely nasty. Lots and lots of late movement and he was hitting whatever spot the pitching coach was telling him to hit with the fastball. I also got Neftali and Derek to sign a ball before the game. Hope that’s worth something someday. And Nolan, JD, Sundberg and some other guy were front and center behind homeplate, right in front of the group of scouts. Wonder if that is why Holland wen 108 pitches tonight? Hmmmm....

Dutch and Feliz...
How long ’til they are in OKC next year? 1 month? 2 months? Do they start either of them there?

Couple months
Id say June-ish. You gotta figure the OKC rotation to start will probably be Hunter, Harrison, Hurley, probably a veteran spare, and maybe Mendoza, Murray or Mathis.
While Holland and Feliz could definitely fill those last two spots theres no need right off the bat.

Hurley
Well I am going off our rotation for next year. Millwood, Padilla, BMac, and Feldman all pretty much are locks. I assume we will either trade for or sign a pitcher that will fill that 5th spot.

That nasty "cutter" is his 4-seam fastball.
It's filed under 'D'... for donut.

Was the 108 pitches intentional?
directly influenced by Nolan?

This fan
was at work. Maybe the Roughriders demographic has a high percentage of Palin supporters? :)

This year in Frisco
not all at the same time, but we saw:
C: Taylor Teagarden, Max Ramirez, Manuel Pina
1B: Chris Davis, Chad Tracy
2B: Jose Vallejo
SS: Elvis Andrus
3B: Johnny Whittleman
CF: Julio Borbon
RF: John Mayberry
SP: Neftali Feliz, Derek Holland, Tommy Hunter, Matt Harrison, Thomas Diamond
RP: Warner Madrigal, Beau Jones
And Scott Feldman was the opening day starter. There were some rehabs, of course. Not counting those.
Elvis Andrus has played with some pretty nice players.
Offense doesn't doubt me, but my first and primemost thing is defense and punt return and kickoff return

You could make
a reasonable argument for every one of those guys being on the big league roster at some point, and maybe even at the same time. It won’t happen, of course, but the potential is there.

I remember on opening night
anticipating having Teagarden, Ramirez, Davis, Andrus and Mayberry all in the same lineup (with Harrison going that night) and thinking that they would probably be the most prospect laden lineup in the minors. Huntsville wound up having something to say about that, but it’s something how that group wound up even better than expected. And while we knew that there would be additions to replace them as they promoted, I don’t think that we could have had any idea that they would be getting five guys as highly regarded as Holland, Feliz, Borbon, Hunter and Vallejo. We expected Kiker, Poveda, Diamond and Whittleman, but that doesn’t really compare.
