Tuesday a.m. things
So, of course, the story today is coaches being reassigned or let go.
Evan Grant says the Rangers are looking for an experienced pitching coach, and suggests that Dave Wallace (formerly of the Astros, and someone with a Nolan Ryan connection) and Rick Peterson (formerly of the A's, and someone with a Ron Washington connection) are likely going to be two of the top candidates.
Jeff Wilson says Perry Hill and Jackie Moore will likely be in the mix for non-pitching coaching spots.

Peterson
The only reservation is how far reaching is his system?
Like, last his name came up here someone said he was a big-ego guy. Sort of sounds like that could interfere with Nolan’s plans.
If they can coexist, I love Rick Peterson for the pitching coach. Verducci portrays him as the injury prevention pitching coach.

the comments
to EG’s article are hilarious. Hilarious in a “holy shit the world is full of idiots” kind of way. I guess “depressing” is a better word.

The DMN Rangers Blog comments are the same way.
They are depressingly moranic. But, then again, Mike Doocy said that the Rangers “only hope” next year was for Hicks to “write the big check.” Maybe the DMN Blog People are watching too much Mike Doocy?

"Hey man, I figued out why the Rangers aren't going to win the World Series this year...
They need some pitchers! I can’t believe JD doesn’t see this! What a retard! You know, I was doing some research the other day, and would you believe that the Rangers gave up more runs than they scored?!?!?! I mean, who woulda thunk it?!?!? They should can his east-coast elitist ass and hire me as the new GM! Then I would go out and get some good pitching! How come JD doesn’t understand that?!?!?"
"Does this effectively hide my thunder?"
Not really.
Unfortunately. I knew it didn’t look right but was in a rush and didn’t think about it. Oh well.
That's gonna cost you.

It's what you call people when
they’re acting too much like Canadian funny man Rick Moranis.

Maybe he was specifically calling out Erin Moran...
…and her family. Perhaps he didn’t like “Joanie Loves Chachi”.

No, she really
never was.

no, but
him and Perry Farrell are second cousins.
And he did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
And the good news is that I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance with Geico.

Hola Amigos!
I just got back from my honeymoon. We went to the Dominican Republic. It was very cool. I might post some pictures but then again, who would really care about that.

Dominican
Did you and your wife check out the new Rangers academy while you were there?
In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love.
We went on an all day excursion through the south side of the island.
I saw the BoSox, Dodgers, Mets, and Marlins academies. I asked the guide if we would see the Texas academy and he didn’t know what I was talking about. It made me feel like an idiot because I was soo excited to see Texas. Im not really sure where the academy is though Tball. We stayed in Juan dolio which is west of Santo Domingo.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
I was kidding
but neat that you saw some academies. Is your wife a fan? Or was she just being nice to you on your honeymoon? “Sure honey, I’d love to see some baseball academies…”
In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love.
I thought though that Texas did have some sort of academy in D.R.
My wife is a fan to a point. Should would rather go to games and see things close up and personal rather than sit down and watch the playoffs with me, you know?

The Rangers Academy
I believe it is in La Romana, which is quite a way east of Santo Domingo. On east beyond San Pedro de Macoris, which has been the traditional center of Dominican baseball. If the guide is from Santo Domingo, or west of Santo Domingo, he may not even know there is an installation at La Romana.

I’m looking at a map of D.R. and it looks like it’s about 60-70 miles from Santo Domingo to La Romana (and a little over 20 miles from SPdM). Considering that this puts them kind of off toward the eastern coast, like you said, and quite a bit further away from the other population center around Santiago, do you think from your experience that this might put them at a strategic disadvantage (or advantage) as opposed to being in Santo Domingo? These days most everyone seems to know about the big talents, but there is still some mystery and some intrigue involved in recruiting guys and knowing the rocks to turn over.

Advantage
Along with the Braves and Padres, a new complex complete with training center, decent quarters, etc is a better draw for players than the nation’s capital and surrounding area. If you Wiki the Dominican Summer League, it spells out all the affiliations, and in a way is split up by provice (like two sections in Santo Domingo North and Santo Domingo South). The San Pedro de Macoris section has two Ranger teams, etc. And I may have misstated the exact location. The old quarters were at the ballpark in LaRomana, and I think the new complex containing the Rangers and Braves academies is more like San Pedro de Macoris. I haven’t personally been to the DR for about 15 years, but am familiar with the LaRomana, Altos de Chavon, Isla Catalina Ynez, area more than others. All I’ve ever done in San Pedro is change money, since it’s rates are most favorable in the country.
I would guess that turning over rocks is by far he hardest part. Players like Juan Dominguez may live in a rural backwater where scouts have a hard time finding out who is whom, shady “agents” prevail, etc.

Honeymoon
Ahh but was it as exciting as JParks’s Adventure Honeymoon: Honeymooning in the eye of a hurricane?
Congrats, though, hope you had a blast
What's the rumpus?
Luckily there wasn't any hurricans brewing,
but it did rain all day on tues and wed. We had a blast and I’d recommend the island to anyone that wants a cheaper alternative to nice islands.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
Ah yes.....
I went there a few years ago for a wedding.
We stayed at the Melia Caribe in Punta Cana…………it was beautiful!!!!!
It’s unfortunate that everything between the airport and the resorts look like poverty stricken areas. However, they are making efforts to rebuild lots of the towns using the money from vacationers.
i like baseball too
Probably the biggest downfall you listed, inbetween the towns and resorts are horrible,
but the resorts are nice.

Minor League
I remember an article not too long ago in which Ryan said that the minor league pitching coaches really did not take what he had to say to heart. Ryan talks big when it comes to changes to the pitching, and that obviously has to start in the minors. I am more interested in seeing what happens at the minor league levels.
