Im calling Brandon McCarthy out...

It tore me up inside watching what John Danks did tonite for the Chisox. The moment that trade was made, I knew it was an unneccessary risk Jon Daniels was taking and tonite confirmed what we all have known for months: We got schooled by Kenny Williams.

So, I know 'B Mac' frequents this blog from time to time and the following is a message to him...

If you've got an ounce of integrity or pride in you, you will report to camp having added muscle some where (anywhere!) in your body with your arm in the best damn shape it has ever been in. All I read about you last offseason was how you bulked up and then I saw you make your first start this year and all I see is a 6-5 dude comprised of nothing but bones!

Further, I (we) don't care what your mechanics are or arm slot is; just get back to 94-95 mph! Have an aura about your self; know and act like you belong! There is no doubt u have the talent but until you realize it and execute out there on the mound you will be dubbed as the BIGGEST mistake this organization has ever made.

Somehow I feel we traded a future cy young winner for a jouney man.

Prove me wrong Brandon...

I'm 98% certain that McCarthy never sat at 94-95.

At best, he worked at 91-93. All of this mid-90s junk is completely out of place.

Also...

It’s really easy to hide 15-20 pounds on a 6’ 7" frame.

I, for one, believe he put 15-20 pounds on his frame last off-season. I, also, however, believe that it contributed, at least in part, to his elbow issues this season.

In similar news, I’ve never been a big fan of rapid weight gain in pitchers.

I think there need to be

an option in between “flag” and “rec”. I think this post is exceedingly lame and a horrible waste of everyone’s time, but I don’t think it necessarily needs to be “flagged as inappropriate”. Can’t there be something in the middle there? Like an “un-rec” button? As in “The Dirkatron Unrecommends This Fanpost Cause it Sucks”, something like that.

It's one thing ...

… to start a thread to bitch and complain about the situation. But an open letter to him in the hopes he really reads it? Demanding that he prove you wrong? What makes Aneel such a big deal that McCarthy should give a flying fuck what he thinks? This type of fan irks me to no end— the one that thinks that they are a part of the team or game and are ‘owed’ something (like being proved wrong) by the players or team. You are not special, you are no big deal and I am sure McCarthy sleeps well at night regardless of whether he proves you wrong or not.

by Melmart1 on Oct 1, 2008 9:11 AM CDT reply actions

Well

not that I really want to defend Aneel, but in his defense BMac used to post on this board several months ago, back when CJ was still posting here. So it’s not really that much of a stretch to think that he might still read it. Although as far as I know Aneel wasn’t around then.

he’s still hitting better than Saltalasuckia—while playing vastly superior defense...Athos

by Escher on Oct 1, 2008 11:02 AM CDT up reply actions

I know ...

… that BMac used to post here. A whopping 20 posts or so. I have been here a few years myself. That is not the point. He hasn’t posted here in like a year, and even if he did, who does Aneel think he is, making demands of a player like his needs are so important? Expressing opinion, venting, playing GM … all of these things are par for the course and expected here. But questioning a man’s integrity and making a list of demands is childish and stupid and crosses a line that fans should never cross.

And then saying “we” after “I” as if he is speaking for all of us? That is complete bullshit! Who the fuck is Aneel to think he can speak for the rest of us? I happen to think arm slot and mechanic are pretty important, seeing as how they seem to have affected more than one Rangers pitcher in the recent past who have gone on to better careers elsewhere. Which is just further proof of his fundamental misunderstanding of what truly counts in a pitcher. Arm slot + mechanics >>> gaining weight + having an ‘aura.’

by Melmart1 on Oct 1, 2008 11:18 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't get this

If you think BMac doesn’t care about Aneel’s opinion on arm mechanics, weight…etc. Then, why do you?

he’s still hitting better than Saltalasuckia—while playing vastly superior defense...Athos

by Escher on Oct 1, 2008 11:33 AM CDT up reply actions

What is there not to get?

If Aneel is allowed to post his drivel here and pretend like he speaks for all of us, then I am allowed to respond. I don’t like him trying to speak for the whole board or questioning a man’s integrity because he has been injured, presumably through no fault of his own.

And Aneel was so much citing his opinions as he was making a list of demands, which just doesn’t seem right to me.

Am glad that somebody has finally noticed that McCarthy hasn’t achieved like we all hoped. I don’t understand how you people have missed it for this long. I mean he only pitched in 4 games this year, FOUR GAMES?! Is that what you hoped for when you traded away Danks? I think its a real breath of fresh air that finally someone is ready to stand up to this guy about how lazy he is. “Oh my arm hurts, I can’t pitch today,” well maybe if you ate more ho-hos you could throw a little!

By the way did you intentionally chop the top off the ‘h’ that should be in your name? Because I think “A heel” may fit.

I'm calling out the scientists who built the Large Hadron Collider

Now, this thing was built by scientists, right? Scientists use computers and probably look at the internet. So I’m guessing they check out this site.

As soon as they decided to build the world’s largest supercollider, I knew it was the wrong decision. And now that they’ve turned it on, it’s only a matter of time until it makes a black hole that swallows the solar system. So scientists – if you have an ounce of intelligence you will turn whatever that thing is off before you kill us all. If you don’t, this thing will be dubbed as the BIGGEST mistake humanity has ever made.

Somehow I feel we traded total destruction of the universe for some type of science experiment.

by DJCahill on Oct 1, 2008 11:16 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm no scientist, but I was of the impression that it does not

which is why Lincecum can throw 10,000 mph despite being quite small and I probably couldn’t hit 80 mph on the gun even though I’m a considerably bigger dude. I think the benefit to steroids for pitchers is to aid in recovery time between workouts and games pitched…if you can cut the recovery time, you can work out more often and more effectively. If your muscles can repair faster, then you get stronger quicker.

"Does this effectively hide my thunder?"

by Bob Loblaw on Oct 1, 2008 11:34 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm reasonably sure

that sprinters use steroids for speed and that muscles are the driving force for acceleration.

I’m fairly sure that Lincecum has a fairly decent strength to weight ratio.

the point

Dear sir,

I believe the point expressed so delicately by my fellow e-thugs is that we really, really doubt that anybody, even Mrs. McCarthy, thinks Brandon has achieved as well as he or we would have expected. It seems that your thesis is that McCarthy gets some sick pleasure out of being on the DL and pitching poorly in the scant opportunities that have presented themselves. I think you fail to consider that his career depends on his ability to pitch and pitch well. Yourself and most everyone else only stand to gain tangentially should he become a better pitcher, while he stands to gain not only financially but also by being able to play a game that he undoubtedly enjoys. Furthermore your rant about Hicks enjoying torturing the fan base with mediocre teams further serves to ridicule somebody for something that they have no real or plausible reason to do in favor of doing something that stands to provide them with personal and financial gains.

I’m quite certain McCarthy has stated multiple times that he isn’t particularly thrilled with having pitched in a dozen games in the last 18mos. I’m also certain he has given voice to his personal disappointment at his lack of sustained success in Ranger blue.

And then to ice the cake on the post of the year you give yourself credit for “lighting a little fire under the dude,” with your well thought out, reasoned, and poignant internet diary. How could a public figure ignore the striking wisdom of “Aneel from the internet”?

by bushe on Oct 1, 2008 7:55 PM CDT up reply actions

fact of the matter is

he needs to come to camp in better physical and mental shape; period. he needs to ‘grab the bull by the horn’ and prove he can execute.

and until he can do the afore mentioned, ranger fans (here on LSB) and round the country need to give him hell. all this talk of ‘oh i’m sure he wants to do well’ defence is truly whats ‘LAME’. do you think yankee fans give the benefit of doubt to their guys? or red sox fans? then why are the folks here so quick to come to the defence of a dude who has done ZILCH since his time with the team?

ranger fans (IMO) need to become more like cowboy fans; the same passion and fervour is needed.

we all want mccarthy to have a good offseason, work hard, and improve going into spring training with a chance at contributing in the rotation like we’ve hoped he would for the last two years.

i dont see why it needs to be specifically enunciated nor framed as some kind of ultimatum that he owes us a decision on. im confident that he is well aware that he has underperformed thus far. he, more than anyone, wants to be successful for us. its absurd to think that mccarthy was content to just dog it this winter until he saw this thread!
