No Teagarden?

Because he’s on the big league team?

Correct

That was mentioned by Jamey at the beginning of this series that any prospect on the major league roster would not be in his top 20.

thoughts

It is absolutely wonderful that both Feliz and Holland have a GB/FB rate of about 1.2 to go along with their better than a K per inning pace.

Bermudez had a great season, but a 23 year old in the DSL just doesn’t excite me much. He’ll have to show something in the states and move up to at least Bakersfield before I’d be too interested.

He sounds pretty interesting to me

Maybe an Alexi Ogando without visa problems? About a half foot shorter though.

Offense doesn't doubt me, but my first and primemost thing is defense and punt return and kickoff return

Yeah doesn't make much sense

to rank Bermudez at all as a 23yo in DSL, 24 in in june 09. There seem to be 2 tiers in DSL with one consisting of really young, talented and inexperienced guys and the other being those in their 20’s who are org. guys there. So,yeah, you can’t just look at the #s at that level…

I really took the ranking

as just taking the opportunity to discuss a talent that most of us aren’t very familiar with. The fact that he said he intended to rotate the spot was indicative that he’s not actually saying that the guy is the 20th best prospect in the system.

If he did go somewhere

that type of guy is fun to root for, against the odds and all that, like a Brian Gordon.

The 18th spot

looked to me like the “I’m tired of getting threatening letters and calls from and stalked by some guy who looks like that bald guy from Smallville” spot.

good list

very nice to see smoak’s hold as a top 5 prospect solidified.
any chance we see ross on this list before next spring?

by Smoakin in the Boys Room on Sep 4, 2008 10:17 AM CDT reply actions

Its nice to see really how deep this system is...

Think about it this way, a player like Diamond would be on most teams end of their top 10, being a top 3 or so prospect that had TJ the year before, and now he cant break the top 20…

Impressive…

thedirkatron will be happy

with Lemon on the list.

I'm undefeated in fights. Have I been in any? No. Thats because people know my f'ing status. Don't mess with the elite. - Miles

wonder if he’ll be upset that Lemon was the only player not named in all caps.

thedirkie

will say something like “Lemon does not need caps. You whisper his name in soft reverence, you don’t shout it like a raging Harpy.”

Hey Jamey

That was quite the Newberg Report this AM. Great stuff.

For the two people on this board who don’t read it daily, yall should check it out.

Jamey...

So, is the 20th guy on the list going to be a look into the future, kind of like a crystal ball? If so, I’d like to hear, if you have any information, on guys like Tomas Telis, Edwin (Vicente) Escobar, Miguel Munoz, Anyenil Mendoza, Esdras (Ezdra) Abreu, Teodoro Martinez, Luis Villegas, Juan Grullon, Leonel De Los Santos (A.K.A. Macumba), and Tae-Kyong Ahn. Just some suggestions.

Also, I was hoping you could help me again with just two questions.

1) Do you know if the “William Thompson” who was playing for the Arizona League Rangers is the the same person as the “Matt Thompson” the Rangers drafted in the seventh round? (I have to imagine, because it looks like they have the same birthday, that it is. I wonder why he’d do that though. I can’t imagine an 18-year-old who just got a $600K signing bonus would need to start hiding from creditors.)

2) What do you think the chances are that Mitch Moreland and/or Justin Smoak start next year in Frisco?

It's not my website, but you should visit Andy Seiler's First-Rate http://texasrangersanalyst.blogspot.com/

by YourNameHere on Sep 4, 2008 11:49 AM CDT reply actions

Probably.

Settling on 20 is really hard, as we all know, so I decided to feature someone else each week there. Of the ones you named, Telis and Macumba definitely figure in, but there’s also more advanced prospects like Diamond and Laughter and Beau Jones and half a dozen others who are on my short list.

Same Thompson.

I’d be surprised if either of them began in Frisco, but it’s not out of the question.

Ross

Approximately where do you see him fitting in? I’d have him in the teens somewhere I think based on the scouting reports, but hard to tell obviously.

Ross

He was 20 on the first edition of the list. Just like Smoak, he’ll move up gradually, but I want to see him first.

Yay!

Lil’ Lemon! I’m so happy!
