Cowboys-Browns Gameday Thread
Alright LSBers -
We've all waited since the Giants game to see how this team will rebound, and today is the day.
Even with all the talent on defense, expect the Browns to turn this game into a shootout. Look for them to go to Winslow early and often to expose Roy's lack of coverage skills.
I do, however, think that the Boys have too much firepower on offense to not have a field day on the depleated secondary of the Browns.
Let's hope this game is the first step towards bringing home the hardware in Tampa!!!

Even though 2/3 of the new corners are rookies, we are in FAR better shape than a year ago.

that was 1 year
and they were playing on the road. lets just put it his way: they have had home filed advantage throughout hte playoffs many times since the early 90’s and have choked on numerous occasions

so because they played on the road it doesnt count??
and did the patriots or dolphins have a better season last year? the dolphins sucked overall but the patriots choked. so did the patriots have a worse season???
The Steelers are tied for 1st all time in superbowls and of those 3 with 5 superbowls they have won the most recent one, they have hosted the most conference championships, they are the most consistently good team, and are almost always in the playoffs. No one is even close to them.
your evidence is that they choked. so what??? some teams have never even been to the playoffs. i’d rather choke in th playoffs than not make the playoffs at all

they played on the road one season
all the other times in the 90’s they had home games in the playoffs. If you have home field advantage in the playoffs and you continuously lose, is that not the definition of choke?
And if you want to play an all-time game, I guarantee you that the all time 49ers and Cowboys would defeat the Steelers easily.

you are a cowboys fan and you are talking about choking??
the cowboys ARE the definition of choke. the last time they won a playoff game was in the mid 90s. steelers are good every year, they have a better history, they are better right now, and they are the last team to win a super bowl. didnt the cowboys lose at home to the giants after going 13-3?
49ers are just plain bad right now.
all-time game once again no, the steelers are better.
so did the giants superbowl not count last year either because they played on the road? i guess teams only play 8 games a year, thats weird i didnt know that.
and at least they make the playoffs a ton, i’d rather make the playoffs than suck every year

ok
lets see what the steelers have done since the early 90’s
1992: lost at home to buffalo
1993:lost in wild card
1994: lost at home to a clearly inferior team
1995: lost to the COWBOYS in the super bowl
1996: lost to the Patriots
1997: lost at home to the Broncos
2001: lost at home to Baltimore
2002: lost to titans
2004: lost at home to Pats
2005: won SB in a bad year
2007: lost to Jax at home
now thats one super bowl in 11 playoff appearances in 16 years. In those same 16 years, the Cowboys have won 3 Super Bowls in 10 playoff appearances.
As for your opinion that the all time Steelers are better than the Cowboys or 49ers, look no farther than the backup qb. Dallas has Staubach. San Fran has Young. Pitt has Neil O’donnel? LOL
In reference to how good the Steelers have been in their history: "No one is even close to them."- Steal Home
by hinduplaya on Sep 9, 2008 6:04 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
winning the superbowl sure is bad
cowboys since 1997
1997: NO PLAYOFFS, 6-10
1998 playoffs and no win
1999: 8-8 yet made the playoffs and no win
2000: 5-11 NO PLAYOFFS
2001: 5-11 NO PLAYOFFS
2002: 5-11 NO PLAYOFFS
2003: playoffs and no win
2006: 9-7 yet made the playoffs and no win
2007: playoffs and no win
Steelers 1997 to present
1997- playoff win then lost in AFC championship
1998- no playoffs
1999- no playoffs
2000- no playoffs
2001-13-3 playoff win then lost in AFC championship
2002- 10-5-1 playoff win then lost in divisional round by a field goal
2003- no playoffs
2004- 15-1! Playoff win the lost in AFC championship
2005-11-5 AND 4 PLAYOFF WINS AND A SUPERBOWL
2006 – no playoffs
2007- 10-6 playoff loss to jags
So that means in the last decade the steelers have 8 more playoff wins, more divisional round appearances, more conference championships and wins, a better overall record by a long shot, MORE SUPER BOWL WINS, beat the cowboys in the last appearance, more superbowl appearances, more divisional titles, are in a much stronger division, and the cowboys have a grand total of 0 playoff wins in the last decade. That is the same amount as the Texans and less than the raiders.

Game over
I’ve almost never seen a QB have as much time as Romo has today. If anything at times he hasnt done enough with it.
It blame Crennell’s schemes too. Dont put it on the players. If they’re not getting any pressure it’s because they’re not shaking anything up. Their schemes arent trying to get any pressure.
Anyways, nice win for da boys. Most encouraging for the long term is that it seem Phillips has gone a lot more hands on with the defense today. I’m not sure if he’s calling it but he appears a lot more involved.

The problem is that Cleveland doesn't have anyone reliable coming off the edge (save blitzes).
Their best defensive lineman is a run stopping nose tackle. Hard to get pressure with that, especially against one of the better offensive lines in the league.

I completely understand
They are fucked royally. What do you do? You blitz and leave single coverage and people complain about that. Don’t blitz and Romo has time to let Jessica make him a sammich in the pocket and people complain about not blitzing. The Cowboys are just really really good.

You could put Brad Johnson in here for the rest of the game to protect Romo whos a little rattled. Not like Cleveland has any chance here.
But, I’m sure thats too risky for the coach, the one time in a thousand it backfired, the media would kill him.

he waited a split second too long and allowed the defender to get in front of the throw… add that to the fact it was underthrown, and that pick was all Romo.

Sounds about right
I’m really happy with the way they played defense, especially with no Newman. It didn’t hurt that Edwards isn’t in shape or that Stallworth who kills them didn’t play, but still. They didn’t allow Williams to get exposed by Winslow in any of his snaps, which sounds a lot easier after the fact. Lots of people were predicting that they wouldn’t able to avoid it even on 1st and some 2nd downs.
