OT: Vince Young, another Crazy Longhorn?

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/news/newstest.aspx?id=4178719

"Last night, we received a call from people that are closest to Vince informing us that he had left his house in a state of mind that had them concerned; and that he was unreachable, having left his cell phone at the house," the statement began.

"Not having all the facts available to us and approaching the matter prudently, we contacted Metro Police to make them aware of the situation and asked for their assistance in locating Vince. He was located at a friend's house, where we made contact with him. He then came to the practice facility where it was determined that those initial concerns by his friends and family were unfounded and he returned home without incident."

After Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson, you just can't be to careful about those crazy Longhorns.  Looks like the Texans did make the right pick in the draft all those years ago.

Vince

He was at a friends house watching Monday Night Football and eating chicken wings. So he left his cell phone at home when he left. That all of a sudden means he is mentally unstable? Hell I leave my cell at home all the time. I don’t have the police looking for me. This is just like last year when TO “tried to commit suicide” when all he actually did was take a suplement shake and some medicine that didn’t jive together. Its just the stupid fucking media making a story out of nothing and it didn’t help that his friends/ family/ and coach overreacted either.

The media making a story out of nothing?

The media weren’t the ones who called the cops.

by Adam J. Morris on Sep 9, 2008 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep,

the story isn’t where Vince was. The story is that the Titans were worried enough to make the call.

Like I said

It didn’t help that his friends/family/ and coach blew it out of proportion. The media shouldn’t report stuff like this without some credible evidence.

The Titans

released that they made the request, and you are blaming the media?

If you want to blame anyone, blame the Titans. Any story about a team going to the police to find a high profile player is a legitimite news story.

Im blaming the media...

…for prematurely running with a story that at the time had absolutely no legs. Im also blaming Vinces friends, family, and coach for taking nothing and making something out of it. The guys leaves his house without his cell phone. Of course you aren’t going to be able to get ahold of him. I can understand the friends/family calling the coach to see if thats where Vince is and I can understand the coach calling the cops when it comes out that nobody knows where he is. Although I think it was a rushed judgement to do I can understand them doing that. But for the media to take the very very little info that was available and make a story that now has gone national and made people question whether the guy has a mental disorder is irresponsible. Some zit faced kid was probably sitting by the police scanner and heard the call to be on the lookout for Vinces SUV and bam now its a media frenzy. Thats irresponsible. Same thing happened last year with the TO situation. That shit drives me crazy.

Im blaming the media… …for prematurely running with a story that at the time had absolutely no legs.

What story did they run with?

by Adam J. Morris on Sep 9, 2008 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Let me rephrase

The media reported a story that they knew would create a shitstorm. They reported that the police were on the look for Vince Youngs SUV because he was suspected of being mentally unstable. What they reported was what they knew but it was irresponsible of them to report that when all it really was was a guy who left his cell phone at home when he left.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Sep 9, 2008 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

So, it is the media's job to turn a blind eye to this story?

And don’t say it wasn’t a story, because it was. Blame the Titans, blame Vince, but you can’t stick this one on the media. It’s kind of, sort of…you know…their job.

They all are at fault

The friends and family for overreacting. Jeff Fisher for involving the cops. And the media for reporting a story simply because it involved a local sports star without the facts and causing media hysteria

I'm normally the first to bag on the media

but when the team AND his family are both worried enough to call the cops when he’s only out-of-touch for a few hours, doesn’t that imply that those around him were concerned enough about his state of mind to react quickly? The press simply reported that folks called the police to hunt him down because they (those closest to him) were worried.

How anyone can blame the media for simply reporting the facts is beyond me.

its probably exaggerating BUT

I’m not playing that game. You’re making a vague declaration that one position is better than the other and that’s simply not the case. Dwight Freeney is better than Brodie Croyle. Peyton Manning is better than Ebenezer Ekuban.

by TheBZA on Sep 9, 2008 5:34 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

right,

so the difference of impact between Manning and Ekuban is much much great than Freeney and Ekuban.

my point is that if you think Williams and Young have the same chance to be good then you take Young.

clearly the titans did not think that young had the chance to be better than reggie bush or mario williams.

clearly they decided mario williams has the best chance to be a star.

today, would vince young go at the top of the draft? no
today, would the texans change their pick to VY or reggie bush? no.
if the titans had the first pick then, would they have 100% without a doubt picked VY? no.

end of story.

Wrong
so the difference of impact between Manning and Ekuban is much much great than Freeney and Ekuban.

Wrong again. The Cowboys game is a perfect example of what happens when you can’t get any pass rush on the quarterback. Romo had all day and the Browns didn’t have a chance. You’re forgetting about teams like the 00’ Ravens and 02’ Bucs who won with superb defenses and Quarterbacks like Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson.

But talking to you is like beating my head against the wall. So please just stop it. You can’t make vague generalizations. Defensive End and Quarterback are two of the more important positions in the game. Obviously the Texans scouts saw something they didn’t like in Vince Young and Reggie Bush and it’s starting to look like a damn good decision.

Well

Obviously that’s one of the Browns’ strengths. They allowed 1 sack all of last year and allowed one to the Cowboys this week, so I’d say that’s pretty good.

But there’s no way you can be a successful team without generating a consistent pass rush throughout the season. Mario Williams helps provide that to the Texans’ defense.

After Vince's first year I may say he was more valuable than Williams

but he has gotten worse since his rookie season. He was horrible last year, while Williams was a pro bowler. I still think Vince may turn it around, but he has a hell of a long way to go before he is an above average NFL quarterback.

by uthornfan on Sep 9, 2008 4:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He really wasn't that good

his rookie year. The team won a lot of games, but Vince wasn’t getting much done with his arm, just his legs.

A lot of folks around here compared him to Michael Vick, and it wasn’t a positive comparison.

A pro bowl DL

Really means jack shit, though.

I mean it comes down to defensive coordinator on defense anyway.

A QB means shit too, but it makes a lot more difference than a DL.

So Young may suck, but even the slim chance he could be good is worth far more than Mario Williams, as the results show.

Texans

Too bad they have apparently made every other wrong pick, judging by their results in franchise history.

They will probably lose to Tenessee next week too, unless their new OC Kyle Shanahan rescues them (pretty funny if they had all that talent, that they just had to go get a new hotshot young OC..uh-huh, actions speak louder than word once again about what matters in the NFL).

Anyways Mario Williams is irrelevant, they might as well have taken a shot at Vince, even if he sucks.

Basically

Even though the Texans sucked it up in the opener, I’m pretty worried about the young Shanahan. I was really sick when I found out they hired him the preseason. And in the that one preaseason game, their offense looked unstoppable to me.

I think he has every opportunity to be their Jason Garrett, and them Adam and Cahill will be able to spout off a lot of bullshit about how great the Texans draft, and that pisses me off.

If OC was irrelevant, why didn’t they just leave Kubiak in charge?

If I can just throw a couple random NFl notes in here..

I notice the Cowboys are atop most NFL power ranking this week, including ESPN’s, after Brady’s injury. Feels a little weird. I agree though, we probably should be. People mostly focused on say, the impact to the AFC East of the injury, but I think it benefits the Cowboys as much as anybody, makes winning a Super Bowl a lot easier.

The other thing is I just noticed Dal only favored by 3 over the iggles this week..little bit surprising, I’m usually of the theory Vegas knows something I dont, so.

I mean thats saying in Philly I guess it’s a pick em, or 1.5 on a neutral field. Strong statement.

I think Vegas is missing that Phillips (apparantly) took over the defense though. Our defense should be a lot better, I think we’ll take it easily Monday.
