OT-1310 The Ticket
Anyone going to The Ticket's "Behind the Scenes" studio thing at House of Blues tonight? I can't but if you are please please report back here tonight. I am hearing some pretty unbelievable rumors from some pretty reliable sources that are telling me a serious announcement is forthcoming. Supposedly it will be talked about tonight. If true I would hate it. I worked at The Ticket for a couple years in the promotions department and can honestly say it was a great job and everyone up there are great people. I would hate to see it go where it may be going.
And for those who want to know what rumor I am talking about i don't feel it is right to discuss it on here. You are more than welcome to email me and I will give it to you how it was given to me.

I haven't listened to the Ticket in ages
and honestly have no idea about their ratings or what their plans are.
I thought they were still very successful in terms of ad dollars considering their frequency and all?

you reallly would like to listen to Randy freaking Galloway??
Ok sure, ill give BandS. But come on bro, Galloway is the biggest idiot out there when it comes to DFW sports. Have you listened to him lately, especially on the MY situation? Come on bro, be better than that.
I agree, Hardline is no where close to where it used to be but Galloway???
by thad728 on Jan 15, 2009 3:49 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Honestly if I want to hear sports talk
I don’t have a choice between Hardline and Galloway, because usually I’ll turn on 1310 and they aren’t talking sports, so I go to Galloway. Galloway’s shtick can be very annoying but I like Matt Mosely and I like Galloway’s guests.

ESPN isn’t into those kind of bits. No way I could ever see Entertainment news or fake characters on the ESPN network. Only people I could see working out are Norm and Bob.

Blows. That’s all they know how to do.
I catch some of the national shows on Sirius when Howard’s breaking. Most of them are just bland shit, with obviously-cooked-up inflammatory lines designed to get angry callers from town X.

Look at the ratings:
ESPN pulls in an overall 1.7. That’s mediocre shit to the highest degree.
The Ticket used to shit out 1.7s. They’re still around 3.
This rumor is reversed, I think. Maybe 1310 will simulcast Cowherd or something, but I wouldn’t understand the rumored change at all. Obviously 3 strong-signaled all-sports stations can’t exist together for long, but why would the highest-rated one lose out?
by brettgardner on Jan 15, 2009 3:59 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah that's what i'm saying
You would think the Ticket could survive and wouldn’t need to merge. And I can’t see ESPN agreeing to become part of the ticket.

This would actually make more sense...
if it were 105.3 and the Ticket merging somehow. The Fan would have the stereo and megawatt power of an FM station. If that were the case, you’d think that the Musers and Hardline would survive with Ben & Skin filling the other slot with Norm and BAD Radio being the guys on the outs.
Hmmm…it’s probably nothing that big.

I think Richie Whitt at the Observer knows something.
Most notably:
But there’s something in the air. Something, a gut feeling spiced with an educated hunch, that tells me foundation-shaking changes are imminent. Something that says tonight’s festivities might be both a celebration and a Last Supper.
The Ticket has lost its edge.
Kinda like when your favorite band ultimately mellows and you wish it would return to its rockin’ roots and play more songs like that first album. More Van Halen; less 5150.
Make sense?
He then goes on to list the top 10 things he misses about The Ticket…but that’s an awful strange way of putting “I think The Ticket has lost a step,” at least to me.

Isnt he a big Greggo buddy??
Not saying all of this is crap but we might want to think about where the info is comming from. Steve even said in his email that it was info comming from Greggo’s buddy. I liked Greggo but you know he has it out for the ticket. It will be interesting but it would really suck if that were the case. Would be nice if they get on a big station where we can get better reception but i dont want to see it go. Musers, Norm, and BaD are much better than anything else out there. The HL has definitely lost a step but sill, way better than Gallodouche!!

But TicketStock is Feb 7.
Eh, I don’t think this merger rumor is true…it sounds like something is afoot, though.

i dont think ive ever heard him on the baseball draft
but i absolutely love his draft coverage and honestly choose to listen to him over draft coverage on tv. primarily b/c it’s cowboys specific but he knows as much as anyone on the networks aside from kiper/mcshay/mayock. i pretty much have listened to him the past 3 or 4 drafts since i dont laugh when it comes to the drafts.
also about norm on espn classic a couple weeks back they broadcasted on espn classic a royals/orioles game from 1991 or something, i have no idea what was so special about the game b/c as far as i saw nothing special happened from the 20 minutes i watched but i had no idea norm broadcasted games for espn, it caught me completely off guard.

I started this rumor---that's right, I did, so blame me if it's not true.
Im just going to copy what i got from a guy I know on another board. he is a personal friend of Greggo which is how he is getting this info. Take it for what its worth.
The Ticket is merging with ESPN and getting out of the Cumulus umbrella. A few of the shows are being cut completely. Some of the personalities will be joining together for shows and others are out. It is going to become a more sports focused station. Greggo will be retained to be on a show…quite possibly with some of his former Ticket cohorts.
We’ll see if it pans out tonight. This is the info he passed on to me. I don’t know who is being retained or when the change will happen. But, this is supposedly the main reason why they aren’t broadcasting the behind-the-scenes tonight. I doubt that Rhyner, Danny or Corby will continue on.
About all the info I have on it. I can’t verify 100% if it is gospel.

No Danny or Corby?
Correct me if I’m wrong (And I’m going by experiences from almost 10 years ago so things may have changed) but that would be kicking out two guys known more for bits than sports knowledge.
That’s very un-Ticketlike since they’re usually doing the opposite, while I’m not a fan of this it has been successful ratings-wise.

im not trying to be “productive”. i could give a shit. i find humor in a guy seeking out sympathy for a problem that he so rabidly railed on others for having when he was on the air.
the guy had a cush gig. making $400K a year to shoot the shit for 4 hours a day on the radio. and he pissed away so he could do some blow off the toilet seat. thats amusing to me. and i could care less whether you want to come at me and call me insensitive for doing so. i have no civic duty to feel sympathy for the guy. even if he did have an addiction, it doesnt speak to what kind of guy he is. it says nothing of his character. he could still be a piece of shit.
am i suppose to feel sympathy for everyone with a drug problem? please enlighten me.
and if you dont find the line “coke lines off the urinal” funny, then youve obviously never seen the movie Garden State, and/or you have a very limited sense of humor.

Man, when you care that much about someone else's bullshit, it makes you look like a bafoon.
You don’t have to feel sympathy for everyone else’s drug problems… just feel nothing about it.
It’s not your problem.
Furthermore, Garden State was the steamiest pile of cinematic dogshit I had seen since Demolition Man. A bunch of aimless lonelyhearts who are motivated by their own emorrific search for ‘what does it all mean’?

i dont “care” about someone elses bullshit. if you had the reading comprehension skills of a third grader, you would have noted that i said i was humored and entertained by the situation. not that i cared whether he did drugs or not or whether it was morally right. i just think the image of the guy doing lines of blow in some men’s room on location is amusing.
so youre the one that looks like a bafoon, and a douche.

I read this as if you’re holding a grudge against Greggo because he ruined your favorite radio talk-show, in which case I would suggest taking up a new hobby.
I’m not sympathizing with Greggo because I don’t know the guy. I just think there are better people out there more deserving of ridicule / judgement.
Putting junkies down isn’t exactly my idea of high-five entertainment. I’m sure Josh Hamilton would agree with me. (Yes, I will play that card).
But, seeing as how you thought Garden State was some type of avant garde filmmaking that really opened your eyes, I’m not the least bit shocked it would amuse you.

I dont listen to the ticket to get my sports news. Thats what the internets are for. Thats what blogs like this are for.
I, along with many others in the 18-35 male demographic, find a lot of humor in a bunch of regular dudes goofing off on the radio. seems like a hell of a gig if you ask me.
if you dont enjoy it. dont tune in. I dont like KISS FM. but a lot of people listen to that wacko Kraddick or whatever every morning. doesnt mean it sucks. it just isnt something im interested in.

That since they screwed the P1’s, like me that has always been there, by having a tell all tonight and only having about a 1000 tickets. That they filmed this and it was going to be on tv on channel 21 or 33. It was kind of crappy limiting this night. I love the ticket, but all week when they talked about tonight I got pissed knowing that not very many people could attend. They just kept using it to fill segments.

Ive never paid attention to this signal stuff
though I know i have trouble getting it all the time.
anyone know why its so hard to improve the signal? I mean, isn’t there some way to improve the thing? Is it that big of a deal or is the station just being cheap?
the preceding post was a great success.

Signal
I think it has to do with the frequency. There probably isn’t a ton they can do since the fcc kind of frowns on overpowering your signal.

I know the BaD Radio forums and the Observer website had a ton of speculation on there, as well. But by creating that FanPost, you had to know it would create a firestorm of speculation.

This is solely conjecture on my part....
First, I have been a P1 since ’97. I will contend that right or wrong, better or worse, the Ticket is still one of the most unique, funny and best stations around. Let me also say Mike Rhyner is my favorite radio personality ever. Difficult to say why – the unique words, his fatherly way, or maybe I just like his brand of humor?
That said, I agree with many here that the Hardline has lost a few MPH on their fastball. My conjecture is, I think it’s no accident that Mike Bacsik has been doing weekend and fill in shows for a while. If he’s not offered a pro baseball contract soon, I would not be surprised if he doesn’t start doing +1’s with the Hardline, with the idea being he replaces Greggo.
Again, this is purely conjecture, but in my mind, it fits.

31 years old with a five and half era in the majors and out of the majors for a year is probably a good time. Maybe if he can pitch in Japan for big bucks it’d be a good deal, I’m not sure that playing in the minors for whatever minor leaguers get paid is a good deal.

Stars games on the ticket??
They say there will be pre and post game shows as well….
So, when the Stars are playing on the east coast and start at 6pm, the pre-game show might start at 5:30. What a good way to make the majority of your drive time listeners run over to the FAN or ESPN radio to get their non-hockey fill.
I like the Stars, but I WILL be tuning out when this situation comes up. Bad decision for the Ticket, I think.

I was thinking a similar thing
Hockey has many more games, many of those start at 7p or the occasional 6p east cost start time. That’s taking a chunk of your drive time show out of the equation.
I’m just guessing that they figure the value of a pro sports broadcast outweighs the listeners they lose during the drive time pre-game

pre game shows
I don’t think they said they would have pre game shows for every game which would make the east coast ones probably not gonna happen. I imagine for 6pm central starts there wouldn’t be any pre game show.
