Happy birthday, Jim Morris
Happy birthday to Jim Morris, the high school coach who tried out for the Tampa Bay D-Rays in the late 90s, and ended up making his major league debut in 1999 at age 35, and being played by Dennis Quaid in a movie.
He's 45 today.

I watched the movie for the first time yesterday
hmmm….. strange…
the preceding post was a great success.
I'm still annoyed that Disney had him run out of the home bullpen in Arlington.
It’s been a while since I last watched the movie… was it so they could get a dramatic shot of him and the Jumbotron at the same time? If not, there’s no good reason for screwing that up.
I think hollywood is just kinda stupid, myself
Disney in particular.
That Gold Glove for Young was the worst thing that could have happened to Texas - now the guy really believes he's good at short. - Keith Law
That's definitely the more photogenic bullpen.
You can get a good shot of him warming up and actually coming down from that bullpen.
I was there the night they filmed that, btw.
They just kind of announced it was gonna happen and then stopped the game between innings and had him run back forth a couple of times and then started the game back up.
It was kind of cool.
The 40 Trumps All!!!
I hate Michael Young.

I was at that game
and there definitely wasn’t cheering going on like the Disney movie shows. Matter of fact, I personally had no idea who he was at the time, until I came home and read the postgame report. It’s still a really good story.

By that game
I mean the original game where Jim Morris made his debut.

I was there when they filmed it.
I roundly objected to a Devil Ray (even if it was Dennis Quaid) charging in from the Rangers’ bullpen.
Yeah, I still faked cheered for the sake of the movie… even though it didn’t make sense.

waht game did they actually film it at?
In reference to how good the Steelers have been in their history: "No one is even close to them."- Steal Home
Didn't save the stub.
I couldn’t tell you exactly when it happened, but I think it was the day we gave Ruben Sierra a standing ovation as he pinch hit for his first Rangers at bat in like 10 years. He hit a bomb to right field. It was awesome.
That could have been another game, but I was sitting in the same spot for both games.

The Rookie
It’s hard to screw up a baseball movie. The Rookie is a good one, for those who haven’t seen it.

The obligatory wet blanket girlfriend really gives the red ass in that movie, though.
Even as far as WBGF’s go, she’s bad.
But, overall, you’re right.
Solid flick, especially if you like baseball.

Morris appearance
Jim Morris will be speaking to a men’s breakfast at Highland Oaks Church of Christ on January 30.
II Cor. 4:17-18
Pretty much 635 & Plano/Kingsley Rd?
Eh, too far for me, but I would like to hear him.

he was a
dang good high school football player in Brownwood. then was a very good punter at Angelo State while in his mid to late 20’s. he didn’t grow up in Big Lake like the movie suggests. he didn’t even live there the year he coached there. he drove from san angelo every day.
