Ask BA does Andrus v. Escobar

Jim Callis fields a question in the latest Ask BA on Elvis Andrus v. Alcides Escobar, saying that he'd take Escobar over Andrus, but it is close.

He also says that neither of them is Jose Reyes...

Braves

He’s not with the Braves that’s why he’s not in the top 50. Plus power is a more meaningful than plus speed.

I think they're close enough

that I’d take Andrus just because of the age difference at the same level.

This headline makes me uncomfortable.

I mean, is Callis kinda like Z in that young latin-y prospect way?

OT:

a quick 30 second preview of the new U2 single seems to reveal a song that has a lot of suck.

Of course I find them to be the most overrated band ever………well, besides Nirvana. Oh, and Pearl Jam.

theres not one ranger on the USA WBC team

and the rangers have the least number of participants by far of any mlb team, 3. Cat for italy, Mendoza for mexico and Max for Venezuela.

Probably preferable, but weak at the same time.

the preceding post was a great success.

I would have really liked to see kinsler in particular in there

Might not hurt to get going a little early after missing the last 6 weeks or whatever it was. Though Im assuming the DL/insurance thing is why he isnt playing.

MY needs to be working on 3b, Hamilton can stick to his schedule.

It would have been cool to see Cruz on the dominican roster, they have jose guillen on there..

But yeah I know its better in the end for them to just be in ST, but it just makes the wbc much less appealing to have noone playing. I’m assuming Max isn’t going to see much playing time.

the preceding post was a great success.

by DShep on Jan 19, 2009 9:25 PM CST up reply actions

If there is anything ive learned from soccer...

its that international play just screws up your clubs chances of winning, generally.

mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.

by Jayslick on Jan 19, 2009 10:00 PM CST up reply actions

yeah but

international cups are worth more than local tournaments. Nobody cares if America de Cali wins the Colombian-whatever-league. But if they were to win the Copa Libertadores, they might get 6 seconds on sportscenter. And in LA, that means you get bragging rights over the arrogant Argentinians and cocky Brazilians.

"Yeah, like I had a chance there" - Lancaster batter, after striking out against Derek Holland

by chrisR on Jan 19, 2009 10:31 PM CST up reply actions

agreed

I think the more this team has the opportunity to gel in ST and get their timing down, I’m all for it.

a little OT: ST takes too long nowadays. ST should be lessened, then you start the season a couple weeks earlier, so the WS isn’t played in snow, or a blizzard keeps the game from being played.

was a bit amateur hour. Im still giving it a chance but I didn’t see what everyone was so crazy about. Maybe my expectations were a bit high from all the acclaim its garnered.
