Friday afternoon video

I had never heard of this band or this song until this week, when I saw them on VH-1s top 100 hard rock songs of all time.  This video is quite incredible:

The Darkness - I believe in a thing called love (via midori87)

Woohoo

Campy Rock. They flared out pretty hard. I seem to remember one of them dying or something bad shortly after their brush with stardumb.

Pretty sure...

I’ve heard that song in a couple movies. Not sure which ones though.

Damn that video is crazy.

However, I’m old and boring, so I figured folks here would have.

If your being serious then you might want to check out

Electric Six’s “Danger! High Voltage”! It isnt as good but it’ll remind you of the 70’s bands!

Good for a laugh!

Maybe we can crack open some old ELO albums too!

BTW

I also forgot to mention the “Eagles of Death Metal” !

My friend’s manager used to get us back stage to Jimmy Kimmel and I caught their show. They were amazingly entertaining!

by mrichardson70 on Jan 2, 2009 3:17 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Eagles of Death Metal

Everyone of their songs sounds the same.

If it’s a Josh Homme side-project you’re searching for, look no further than the Desert Sessions.

by oc on Jan 2, 2009 4:01 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

pretty much

dead on with that one “oc”!

I think that Josh is the main component since you cannot really tell a difference after Nick Oliveri left the band.

Boo

ELO wasn’t greatness, but they were respectable.

This is shiite of the lowest order (and FYI, that vid and that band ain’t 70’s).

Nah, noob.

Yes, that's Miles

I recognize it from the post-your-pic thread I did at the end of last season.

Adam did it for him last night though, I think. It’s in this thread, somewhere:

That's what they were saying on the show

That they were supposed to be the next big thing, and the singer developed a drug problem and flamed out.

by Adam J. Morris on Jan 2, 2009 3:13 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They dropped about the same time Andrew W.K. did.

It was appealing for a short while, as both had a retro-rock appeal… which countered the Nickelback sludge of the early oughts.

Surprisingly, it’s the sludge that’s still running the airwaves.

Me too.

Back 5 or 6 years ago, when that song came out, I was sure this was a Spinal Tap type bit. Went out and bought the CD.

As soon as I read the lyrics for the rest of the CD’s songs, I think I felt as old as I ever have. Threw the CD away for fear that my oldest (who was two or three at the time) might one day soon read them herself, or listen to the CD.

Id agree with that in a lot of ways but i still enjoy it. It’s just nice to see a lot of great music…also reminds me how amazingly horrible the music is today

Disagree

I cant stand all the crap pop music out there. Thats all i hear if i listen to the radio

by Horns130 on Jan 3, 2009 12:34 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Then maybe try a little harder.

Popular top-40 type music has always been a pu-pu platter of suck.

And serously… the radio? Who the hell listens to the radio anymore?

Dig a little deeper. There are tons and tons of great bands out there if you’re willing to find them. Most of them don’t even worry about playing the radio game anymore cause radio is dead. There are so many more convenient ways to disseminate your music to people than the radio and music videos these days that most bands don’t even worry about it.

The good news is that with all the barriers the interweb has knocked down, it’s now easier for good non-commercial bands to “make it” and put their music into your eardrums.

You obviously have an internet connection, so use it. Pandora or Last.FM, or even myspace or Amazon or iTunes.

Not to mention the fact that bands can exist today without having to play the record label game.

The internet has made being a music fan so much easier.

I can barely even remember a time when I used to go to a record store to listen to CD’s to figure out if I liked one enough to buy it.

These days you can stream pretty much any album in its entirety online anytime you want.

How freaking cool is that?

by thedirkatron on Jan 3, 2009 4:00 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

the statement should be ammended

to say a lot of music that gets airplay seems to suck

"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg

by rentz on Jan 3, 2009 3:41 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's been true forever, though.

There’s always been a ton of popular garbage thrown out to the masses.

The lowest common denominator stuff always sucks, but to take only that shit and use it to say that “music today sucks” is just dumb.

There’s a lot of really, really good music out there today.

by thedirkatron on Jan 3, 2009 3:52 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I like hearing the music

but come on, first of all its silly that they called it the hard rock songs simply because they wanted to include some non-metal songs and not be bitched out about it. And Welcome to the Jungle is the best hard rock song? They put great classics in the middle of the list and just put the popular songs in the top 10. I’m not saying Welcome to the Jungle isn’t great, but its not the best.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
