What's discussed?

Any kind of quick rundown of what’s talked about?

by Apes and Androids on Jan 21, 2009 9:06 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

A variety of questions from listeners...

It isn’t an hour of Michael Young talk…in fact, there’s not that much of that.

Pretty good effort and something

to definitely keep the hands of Ranger fans warm.

Losing EGrant is not a good thing for the DMN and he does quite well in this podcast.

The dislike (by Jamey & Adam) towards Randy Galloway is more than evident. His regard for JD is just an opinion, guys, but it’s one shared by many and it’s not a crime to be critical…especially with cause.

Lots of love towards JD…Jamey said that JD’s missteps happened early and that his moves over the last two years have been much better. Hmmmm…

Are we conveniently forgetting about Galarraga? Seems like a team that gave up 967 runs last year could have definitely used him. While JD has done a good job of building the system (he did have a HOF potential player in his prime with 1.5 years left as a trading chip) his ability to help the team (Broussard? JJennings?) to help the team at the major league level has shed more light on his incompetence. JD also gave Michael Young a 5 year / $ 80 million extension in February ’07 which upon further review, seems to be a brain-dead move when you have a KC Royals payroll and the player has (surprise!) began his inevitable decline.

What happens if these new prospects don’t turn out is discussed.

Somebody (I think Grant) made the point that if the Rangers don’t have Andrus on the team on Opening Day that there will be a potentially toxic situation. That genie (team wide lack of respect for JD) has been out of the bottle for a while so I’m not sure I agree.

They dismissed the Andrus error total in the minors…sorry guys, Kinsler made a boatload of errors (33) between Clinton & Frisco and continues to do so in The Show.

The possibility of Borbon making the team was discussed but the point was made that this team can’t carry his bat in the line-up if they’re also carrying Andrus as well. Borbon is older (which I think is more important) but hasn’t played as many years professionally as Andrus.

Also, if Borbon makes the team as a CF there’s a logjam in the OF. Josh goes to RF you have (Wash’s fave) Byrd, Murphy and Cruz to play LF and Brandon Boggs (the thinking man’s player) goes to AAA.

There were discussions about McCarthy and what he needs to do to win the hearts of Ranger fans. Adam said that McCarthy has pitched quite well when healthy (said he was the best pitcher the Rangers have had but admitted that was damning with feint praise).

Just so everybody knows, McCarthy has 14 Game Scores of 50+ (out of 27 starts) and has never lasted past the 6th inning in any start. In contrast, Danks has 29 Game Scores of 50+ (out of 55 starts) and has lasted past the 6th inning 7 times. Danks’ Game Score in the tiebreaker win over the Twins was a Koufaxian 79.

There was talk about Pudge and why Melhuse (vomit blood) is being invited to camp.

I probably missed a few things but all in all, a good listen.

There's a big difference between being critical, as you say

and senselessly bashing “Jon Boy” for things he can’t even logically tie him to. Healthy criticism is great. Spewing venom to the point that you feel you need to make up a childish nickname is, well, childish.

Galloway is a caricature of a caricature of a bad writer at this point.

Also “Parkian.”

Not to be all PC

But it annoys me when people don’t at least make an effort to pronounce the Hispanic names correctly.

The “A” in Spanish is pronounced “Ahhh,” not like “Andrew.” His name is Elvis Ahh-ndrus.

Karl Ravech on ESPN does this worse than anyone. It’s like he’s trying to butcher the names. Rafael Ferr-CAL (as in Ripken), for example.

Where's Ted?

I love me some Evan Grant.

Any chance you guys might look into getting some Rangers do guest interviews on the show? Easier said than done of course, but I’d be really interested in what you guys could get out of, say, JD that the MSM probably wouldn’t think to ask.

Guest Interviews

We are definitely trying to arrange for some interviews in the future. JD has told me he wants to come on the show – the trick is finding the time in his schedule to do it.

I am hoping to make it out to Arizona next month and conduct a few informal interviews that we can play throughout the year. That is dependent on family and finances, though.

Evan

sounds just weary of the DMN situation, which I can understand. I hope he gets some kind of direction and/or closure on his role there soon. Not knowing has to be a beating.
