105.3 FM
Maybe this should be a fanshot but I honestly don't care because I think everbody needs to read this and fanshots often get ignored.
105.3 FM was/is broadcasting live from Fan Fest all day today, interviewing players (Kinsler, Feldman and more) and others (including Jamey). After listening to Ben & Skin talk Rangers so much over the past few weeks, I don't want it to end. The Cowboys and the Mavs get this kind of attention from the local media and it's finally nice to see the Rangers get talked about...and 105.3 even seems to know what they're talking about.
What's my point exactly? For those that haven't checked it out, please try to listen. For those that do listen, keep listening. It's a new station and I just don't want to see it go under due to poor ratings because I'm loving this Rangers talk way too much. Good day gentleman.

But yeah, it looks like I was way off concerning Gordon.

Gordon can flat out score
Bayless will be fine. I still can’t believe Lopez fell so far.

But I would go Monroe.

its sad
but with some of the players they have (Durant and Westbrook) and if they get Griffin, I could see them being in contention for a playoff spot next year

Jeff Green has a chance to be a pretty valuable trade commodity too
He has value to OKC, but really plays the same position as Durant. I could see them improving at the Center or SG spot and adding a bench player by moving him. And if they are willing to buy some late 1st round picks like the Blazers, they could be an exciting up and coming team.
I would say year after next though, as Westbrook has a lot of improving to do as far as running a team goes and they still have big holes at SG and C and PF…unless they get Griffin. It’s a shame for them they didn’t hit on any of their highly drafted centers (Swift, Sene, Petro) or they could be even closer.

Him and Durant compliment each other very well. Green is one of my favorite young players.

I have liked Green since he showed up at G'town
I just don’t like Durant playing the 2 or Green playing the 4. Green could be a great versatile 6th man, but he could also fetch a nice return in in a year or two given his skill set.
Right now, it is fine to have those two together, but I just think they are both starting SFs and Green COULD be a trade chip when OKC is ready to compete.

They play the 2 and 3
Doesn’t matter what order. But I would Greg Monroe, the center from Georgetown. I’m not as high on Griffin as most, he seems to really struggle doing anything skillful.

I just don't think either one of them is a 2 guard
I think they are both good SFs with the chance to be great. The thing with Green if they kept him is he could be a 6th man who could come off the bench and play some SG, SF and a little PF once they get the rest of their team filled out.
But neither of them is a great fit at SG in my opinion.

I don’t think Green should be playing 6th man at all. I think he’s a tremendous talent. He’s got some big flaws that he’ll have to iron out—mainly, can he be a consistent enough shooter to stay at 2?
I can only assume when you say that you don’t think he’s a fit at 2 that you’re taking his shot and size into consideration. I don’t think those considerations are enough to warrant benching him or trading him away, unless you get a significant package in return.
by brettgardner on Jan 24, 2009 9:32 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well you can have a 6th man play starters minutes
a la Terry.
And, I am not at all saying he should be on the bench now. But, if they keep this core together, in a couple of years when they have hopefully filled out their frountcourt and added a natural SG…Green is the type of versatile guy who could thrive as a sixth man.
He is also the type of guy who could help you fill out a contending roster via trade.
I really like Green’s game, I just think he is a guy who the Thunder (stupid name) will have some flexibility with in the future…and that’s not a bad thing.

After taking a closer look
they need at least 2 more years to fill out the bench and add more pieces. Westbrook, Durant, and Griffin would make a formiddable top 3, but aside from Green they have a lot of building to do behind that. Should at least be interesting to watch unlike the Mavs hovering around the last playoff spot the next couple of years.

During the week the ticket guys took off (and I can’t believe they would take off the first week a competitor is on the air, with the Cowboys season reaching its end, regardless of it was Christmas week or not).

its nice to hear baseball talk
on the radio, but its not as if the talk is really all that informative or interesting. im willing to give it a chance cus ive only listened to about two hours worth of The Fan so far, but im not exactly optimistic that i will fall in love with it. the ticket is more entertaining still, and thats enough for me.

…its not as if the talk is really all that informative or interesting.
I disagree with this because The Fan covered the Young debacle with a fervor that went surprisingly unmatched with the other two stations.
They brought the right people into the discussion and dissected it from different perspectives. Pretty fresh considering The Ticket and ESPN’s increasingly obvious distaste with the Rangers.

They have some great interviews
As far as insightful baseball talk, I’m not sure if you’re really going to be hearing that much different from what you’ll read here, but they do a great job of talking smart baseball and lining up the good interviews. There are some stupid callers calling in, but the best part is that there is finally some radio guys who don’t agree with the stupidity of the casual fan (unlike Galloway)

K Scott and Greg Hill
are terrible. Specifically Greg Hill. If he was half the star he thought he was he would be the lead guy on the NFL network. He is awful.
B&S are a good listen, though I preferred them when it was in moderation on the Ticket. They do talk Rangers, which is nice, but it’s not so much their analysis that is enjoyable as it is the guests they are getting. I do love Ben’s enthusiasm though. And I think with some fine tuning they have a long term home here/
“The Argument”, as it has been dubbed does their fair share of Rangers talk too, but Stein’s partner has a bit of Greg Hill-itis as far as baseball goes. And all Stein does is argue with people…for example Frido on half of the Rangers’ post game shows on the Ticket last year.

is awful. Absolutely awful.
I like B&S on the fan — that’s about it. I don’t really like all the calls, and I pretty much only keep it on 105.3 when I’m hearing Rangers or Mavs talk. If it’s all Romo/T.O./Cowboys and callers “bringing the heat” I check out back to the Ticket.

Yea my listening to the Fan
is pretty much limited to Ticket commercial breaks or anytime BaDD radio talks TV because I am one of those wait till it’s on DVD and watch the whole season kind of people and they have no sense of what a spoiler is. I skip the Ranch Report a lot of the time too.
My favorite callers have been the ones who refer to themselves as “diehards” and proclaim everyone questioning the Cowboys aren’t true fans.

i haven't listened to any of it

As far as personnel
At least from a precedent standpoint, that’s what the Ticket did. Greg Williams, Craig Miller and George Dunham were doing very similar jobs at KRLD and WBAP to what a lot of these guys were doing at the Ticket. Rhyner was a total spare. Bayless was about as unpopular as any sports guy in the area. Menefee was an empty suit on the local station that literally nobody watched and had nothing to say. And Cooperstein couldn’t keep a regular job hosting a show here on KRLD. Their lineup looked really pathetic on paper.
Ben & Skin were well regarded, I think, by the Ticket, but what could they really do with them? They would have had to fire Norm Hitzges or try to talk them into an unappealing prime time kind of slot (and the Ticket has generally given up on doing original programming at that time). I think that they were a slam dunk choice for something like this. I do agree that the morning show is nothing short of pathetic, and I hope that they try come up with something better than Greg Hill in that midday slot. I have no problem with some of their ancillary guys, though.
The big push for caller driven content is kind of lame, though, I agree. And I can’t get past the jingle singers.

Well
I don’t think they’re really taking on the ticket. They make it seem like they are with some of their promos, but in reality what they’re doing is taking on 103.3.
They’re taking calls, making a big deal about being sports, etc. So they can talk all they want about trying to take down the Ticket, but they’ve got ESPN and Granpa Urine in their sights.
As for their overal programming, Ben and Skin is literally the only reason I ever flip on the station. I like listening to them talk Mavs. I’ll listen to that all day long. If they’re talking Rangers with a guest like Hindman, I’m hooked. If they’re talking generic Rangers I’ll listen until they start taking calls.
Other than that, they’re fighting ESPN radio for my time while the Ticket is at break. And considering the current state of the Ticket (specifically the Hardline) it’s impressive that they still have that kind of strangle hold on my listending attention.

I still love the Hardline and the Ticket, but
-Like OC said, Corby’s forte is not sports insight
-No Greggo (or 3rd person at all) means more Danny…and that is not a good thing
-The beauty of Corby is Schtick…he’s like a pocket sized Gordo. Listening to him pretend to care about the Rangers is painful
-This past year has clearly taken a toll on Mike. Imagine starting a business with a guy, having it succeed beyond you wildest expectations, form an incredibly close friendship with the guy…and then have the Greggo situation play out…and play out very publicly.
The Ticket is going to have to start planning ahead because Mike will not be around forever, Norm can’t last too much longer (whether you like him or not), and they will have two huge slots to fill…I know, that’s what she said…but the Ticket is far from losing it’s stranglehold on this market, weak signal and all

and as for the past year taking a toll on mike, id say it’s taken a burden off his shoulder, it sounds like there was a lot of animosity towards greggo from mike. mike really sounded like he didnt care for greggo as much as you may have thought
imo whenever i listen (live in stillwater) they’re all part of the problem. they’re all lazy for whatever reasons and over rely on danny being drunk or mike being old. whenever they talk about movies or tv they know jack shit b/c they dont care (mikes case) mike imo is the laziest sob who’s perfectly content for what he is b/c he knows they wont fire him but aside from knowledge that may have been useful 10 years ago what does he bring to the table?

For me
It’s Corby. Which is ironic because I liked Corby when he was the third wheel. But as much as Greggo drove me nuts with his half-baked opinions, he had a personality, and brought laughter to the show (be it with him or at him).
It’s just not the same without the Greggo character.
Plus, as others have stated below, listening to Corby try to do serious sports talk is painful. The only thing he can do intelligently is college football, which makes them do way too much of it during the season. That’s an immediate punch out for me.
And Rhines is just past his prime. He seems to put zero effort into the show these days.

The Ticket sucks
but more importantly, if you want sports talk, they are definitely not the place to go. 105.3 is trying to be the DFW area’s first good sports talk station since ESPN gives crappy big personalities all their air time and the Ticket spends most of their day talking about anything that isn’t sports.

Like jthig32 said above you
103.3 and 105.3 are competing against each other. The Ticket will be largely unaffected by that competition. The anti-Ticket people got their all sports, all the time station when 103.3 came to town. And 105.3 is now drawing from that crowd. A few ticket listeners may jump ship for the beauty of caller driven radio, but for the most part 105.3 and 103.3 will merely draw on each other’s audiences with a lot of them switching constantly back and forth.
B&S have quickly become my Ranger show of choice because of the people they are getting on the air.
So, while the Ticket needs to make some improvements (Hardline BADLY needs a third…LESS DANNY)….or as you so eloquently put it: “The Ticket Sucks”
They will still dominate 103.3 and now 105.3 in the ratings…and the margin may widen with the All Sports crowd “splitting the vote” between The Fan and ESPN.

I accounted for you
A few ticket listeners may jump ship for the beauty of caller driven radio, but for the most part 105.3 and 103.3 will merely draw on each other’s audiences with a lot of them switching constantly back and forth.
I listen to the other 2 stations more now than I would have a few years ago (had 105.3 been around) but 1310/104.1 is still my go to station.
My point is that 105.3 and 103.3 are the 2 competing against each other…as you said, those are the 2 you go back and forth between. The Ticket has it’s own listener base…and that group will keep them at the top of the ratings. I do agree with a lot of people who say that 1310 has to make some changes, they clearly do, but not due to 103.3 or 105.3

I guess that depends on what compression you choose when you rip them. You CAN choose to rip a literal exact copy of the CD audio, so saying they sound better on a CD doesn’t make much sense.
In my opinion it makes sense to rip them because you can carry around your entire music collection on a device the size of one of your CD’s, but to each his own.
