Perry on Sheets
Rangers
If the latest rumors are any guide, Texas is Sheets' most serious suitor. With a rotation that last season ranked 13th in the AL in starters' ERA, the Rangers certainly need the help. Right now, the Texas rotation comprises Kevin Millwood and Vicente Padilla, and they'll likely dig up three more starters from an uninspiring group that includes Dustin Nippert, Kason Gabbard, Matt Harrison, Scott Feldman and Brandon McCarthy. Sheets would immediately become their best starting pitcher.
He thinks Sheets is a better fit any place but Texas:
Mets, Cardinals, Indians or even the Brewers.

????
What is so incendiary about saying that Sheets could position himself for a better contract in the future by not picking the Rangers right now? Or that Sheets would become the Rangers best pitcher? Or that Angels are still the team to beat in the AL West?

A couple of years ago
I sent him an email reply to one of his online stories because I didn’t agree with what he had said. He sent me back a very nasty reply. As if people should never disagree with what he says. To be honest though, I can’t remember what my beef was about.

First time...
I’ve hear the Cards and Indians as a possible suitor for Sheets. Hope there isn’t much to it, doesn’t sound like there is.

were the Phillies interested at one time?
seems I heard them mentioned a couple times, but nothing recently.

I agree
on the A’s. And that would be some major suck for Ranger fans(all Sheets thoughts should be interpreted with the “if healthy” tagline.)
I haven’t looked up payrolls but do we have a higher one than the A’s? Seattle?
Just curious where our budget ranks in the division…..
I would guess 1. Angels, 2. Seattle, 3. Rangers, 4. A’s

Yeah, those are correct
Both Angels and M’s are in the top 10, we’re right around 20th and the A’s are slowly gaining on us

not to be a stickler but
that is actually an appropriate use of the word. it may read sort of awkwardly for our modern sensibilities but im pretty sure its a correct, though perhaps antiquated usage.

Still haven't formally looked it up
Way I understood it is units of a whole comprise the whole. The whole is comprised of the units.
His use: Right now, the Texas rotation comprises Kevin Millwood and Vicente Padilla.
I don’t think that’s right? Still too lazy to look it up.
Go Strangers.
by hightowersmith on Jan 29, 2009 12:03 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
and that's a correct, common usage.
but ive heard it used in unusual ways before and when i saw your comment my curiosity was piqued so i looked it up, for my own edification. and my suspicions were confirmed. it also means:
to include or contain; to consist of; be composed of
So, “The Texas rotations consists of Millwood and Padilla” is what he’s saying and it makes sense.

Is a nice man. He's still alive. I bet he's nice also.
Here’s what Bill James had to say about him in one of his Baseball Abstracts:
“Don Mossi was the complete five-tool ugly player. He could run ugly, hit ugly, throw ugly, field ugly and ugly for power. He was ugly to all fields. He could ugly behind the runner as well as anybody, and you talk about pressure … man, you never saw a player who was uglier in the clutch.”
