Closer? Late Night Chatter?
I posted this on another thread that is 10 hours old and thought maybe some of you who are still up may want to rant?
It’s funny. I have heard a lot of talk about competing in 09’ and I just think it is nearly impossible for this team to compete with CJ Wilson as it’s closer. We might be able to hide a weak 3B, but no closer and and a iffy starting rotation mean 80 wins at best (again)!

..Frank Francisco is the defacto closer
and was unscored upon in his final 14 outings.
the preceding post was a great success.
I think this team has bigger issues

This was 76 win talent last year according to Pythagorus...
the pitching, defense and manager are all the same and an offense that scored 901 runs lost one of their biggest cogs plus the A’s look to be improved.
Currently constructed, 72 wins.

Very true.
But it does put “this thing” up 10 donuts and a few “Boy Blunder’s” up on everyone else in “The Show”.

It isn't "this thing"
It is “this steaming pile.”

When you give up 967
runs, commit 132 errors and your team is “led” by a manager as dumb as Ron Washington -
Yes, you have “a steaming pile.”
"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."
That still doesn't explain
how this team managed to lose 4 games from its Pythagorean last year and 6 games from their second and third order win/loss records.

Did you just...?

This is the creepiest one yet.
Even more so than the kokopelli one.
I can imagine the dude in his profile pic chained up in HH’s basement.
I'm so freaking scared of HH now. Look at the dead eyes in that photo. That man is dead inside. DEAD. And you don't get that way unless you've taken many lives. I'm talking young lives, too. Like babies and shit.

Will he ever
shrug the tag of being known as “the guy who threw that chair” to fans of other teams? Even if he posts even a couple of seasons of +30 saves while blowing heat by AL hitters?
+1
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
I do
I’m happy he threw a chair at that bitch. The only thing I hate is that he didn’t get the jerk-off husband.

The husband is just as much of a dick

I know you weren't asking me...
But I think it depends on what we’re talking about him doing.
Are there words that justify him trying to inflict a nice dose of pain on some asshole guy who was really, really asking for it? Yah, I believe so. I think there are some cases where a guy just goes too far and deserves to get his nose bloodied over it.
Are there words that justify hitting a woman in the face with a chair? No. Never.
The main problem I have with what Franky did that day is that the dude ducked.

So, is it worth getting suspended 20 games...
…in the middle of a pennant race, as well?

No, you're right. I'll amend it.
The main problem(s) I have with what Franky did that day is that the dude ducked(, and that Franky got caught).

The A's ballpark staff should have done something
to quell the situation. The Rangers had been telling security all day about the Buenos. If you ask me MLB should have stepped in after words and talked to the A’s ballpark security and staff and how to handle stuff like this.
I have seen ushers at TBiA escort fans out in my section for things like that.
Miami bound...
No, it isn't
But if some guy off the streets comes up to you and said what that guy said, what would you do?

I don't know what he said
Neither do you.

So then you're admitting there are some things that dude could have said that would have made it okay for someone to crack him in the jaw?
The 40 Trumps All!!!
Nope
And particularly not in that situation.
You are a public figure. Part of being an athlete is getting heckled. It is something you should be used to by the time you get to the majors.
The idea that someone in the crowd said something so heinous, something so bad that it was worse than anything any fan had ever said to a player before, and thus justified throwing a chair into a crowd (where it could have hit anyone), is silly.
The incessant need by Ranger fans to try to suggest that Frankie’s actions that night were warranted is also silly. He shouldn’t have done it. He screwed up. And then he paid the price. Let’s all just move on.

I have a pretty good idea about what was said
This is the same argument Bonds supporters use when they say you can’t say Bonds used steroids. Can I say without a doubt what was said, no. But I’m taking the players’ words on this one.
And if I just lost a baby and went through that and had someone heckling me about that, I would probably lose it too.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Except...
…if you believe the stories, it wasn’t the person who was being heckled about that topic who “lost it.” It was someone else.
I haven’t heard any particular player vouch for that story, fwiw. If you have, I’ll defer to you.
by Adam J. Morris on Jan 4, 2009 6:51 PM CST up reply actions
I'll see if I can find some quotes about it
I could be wrong about remembering the players saying it, but I dn’t think so.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
There are various stories...
…all unsubstantiated, about what was said.
Regardless, I don’t think it makes throwing a chair into the stands justifiable.
by Adam J. Morris on Jan 4, 2009 4:40 PM CST up reply actions
It doesn't really matter.
Besides, from what I heard about the debacle, I would have thrown a chair too. Maybe more.

A while back Cowlishaw wrote an article
explaining that FF’s chair throw was the lowest point in Rangers history. So, I wrote back and said that Lenny Randle’s KO of the manager was worse. He would have none of it. He said he discussed it with his editor and wouldn’t budge from his stance. What can you do?
