Reeves on Ramirez

Jim Reeves is now contributing to the Rangers blog at the S-T, and weighs in on the Manny Ramirez to Texas rumor that Jon Heyman has been pushing for a couple of days now.

Reeves says Boras called Daniels about Manny, Daniels said, no thanks, and that's that.  He also weighs in on the Vicente Padilla trade rumors.

Good for JD.

Did Jon Daniels downsize your old position at Dunking Donuts?

Boras

on MLB Network talking Ramirez right now.

by Chris Hanes on Jan 5, 2009 6:14 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

lol

victor’s about to ask him about arod.

awkward.

by Longhorn on Jan 5, 2009 6:18 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That was pretty good.

Harold actually put him on the spot there.

Sidenote — I like Mitch Williams on this show.

yeah it was

who’s the guy that was sitting by Boras?

A Buster Olney type?

Had to go put the kids to bed. All kids in bed by 8:00 kickoff. Now that’s good stuff.

lol that he tried to reference barry zito in a positive manner

in derek lowe contract reference.

in a DREAM world…lmao.

He doesn’t talk numbers. Yeah, right

I still think its only a bad idea because of the rangers budget

i dont know why some people have such a bad reaction to the very thought.

if we could sign sheets and still have the money to get manny for maybe 2 years + an option I would want to do it. but unless everyone involved is lieing, we only have a chance of barely scraping out the money for sheets even if we trade payroll with it, so… basically I view it as unrealistic, but not stupid.

i dont have a problem spending on offense because so few of the high priced pitchers are open to coming here anyway. Its 400K feliz, holland, hurley, harrison and co. that are the long term pitching hope..

the preceding post was a great success.

by DSheppard on Jan 5, 2009 6:23 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, Manny is very likely to still give you a lot of bang for your $15 million bucks. He is an elite talent that transforms the whole lineup.

haws that MY contract look now?

mormons stole me and held me against my will with Oklahoma beer and 12+ hour work days.

by Jayslick on Jan 5, 2009 6:51 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I must have missed something.

There’s $15 million deferred, but from all I’ve seen there’s still $80 million coming his way total. Unless he’s talking present value (which still isn’t right), I’m pretty confused.

by Andy Seiler on Jan 5, 2009 7:03 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

here
Young, who holds a full no-trade clause, is owed approximately $60 million over the next five seasons, some of it deferred. His contract is for $80 million over five years, but after agreeing to the extension in March 2007, he received some of the money the past two seasons as a bonus.

Rosenthal

by Longhorn on Jan 5, 2009 7:04 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Cot's

So his contract comes out to be something like 7yr/$88.5M with $28.5M already paid.

i wonder what he would have gotten in this market

since this would have been his year.
with crazy stuff like 2/16 for burrell you have to wonder.

though he does have the gold glove =)

the preceding post was a great success.

by DSheppard on Jan 5, 2009 7:13 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What do you think he'd get on the FA market right now?

4/40, at the most, no?

It’s really damn hard to defend that contract.

by thedirkatron on Jan 5, 2009 10:14 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

L.A. offered him 2 years, $45 million

I’d rather have Burrell at 2 years, $16 million.

by Adam J. Morris on Jan 5, 2009 6:56 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

well so would I, but oh well.

i’d be very curious to know if the rangers were involved. JD said they had looked at righty DH’s and it wasnt manny. Not much else out there besides burrell (well, was out there).

the preceding post was a great success.

by DSheppard on Jan 5, 2009 7:02 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

well last season

Manny was worth about 4 extra wins compared to Burrell (using fangraphs value wins), so there is certainly precedent that Manny could be a better value, even considering the difference in those salaries.

OT: mlb network

this was probably discussed somewhere else but can we hope for a MLB HD in the future?

An OT to your OT: What kind of programming are they gonna throw at us?

I’d love some sort of minor league/college baseball coverage during the season and some AFL/Winter League coverage during the off season.

Replays of old games don’t really do much for me, and the studio shows are great but can get old fast.

Original live programming would be great.

And have they announced how they plan on covering the draft?

by thedirkatron on Jan 5, 2009 10:17 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oops, meant what kind of "live" programming.

I’ve read all about their studio shows and whatnot on their site.

by thedirkatron on Jan 5, 2009 10:18 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ooh,

I hadn’t thought about the draft. There is a lot of potential there, with player video, scout interviews, and some Mel Kiper wannabe with horrible hair rising to prominence. Anything to keep Selig offscreen as long as possible.

'09 offseason

Assuming the Rangers have $0 to spend, would it be smart to trade Blalock ($6.25mil) and Padilla (12mil) or Millwood (11mil) for minimal offers to free up $18 million that, with demand so low, might buy you more on the market than you gave up?

by Randy Richardson on Jan 5, 2009 7:02 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If we new about Spider Arias...

being healthy enough to play short, I would trade MY and sign Manny. Then trade Padilla and sign Sheets. Not sure why, but I want to hang on to Blalock for one last go around. If he stays healthy we could get a better return at the break, if not he walks and we say bye bye. Something tells me we may be in it at the break this year though. ( ranger fan in my head talking)

by Ranger Capt on Jan 5, 2009 7:16 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

MY's not really

comparable to those guys who are all have one year remaining (with an option and vesting option thrown in). Young’s contract is only tradeable if they’re accepting a similar contract in return.

Jones is toast

did you see the post over at BTF today? He apparently “left” his winter ball gig, but word is they wanted him gone because he was playing so badly on both sides of the ball.

by t ball on Jan 5, 2009 10:24 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No, hadn't seen that.

Maybe he is all the way done.

I thought he still had a little something left, especially in the field. The guy was a special defender for a while there. Loved watching him play CF during his fast days.

by thedirkatron on Jan 5, 2009 10:27 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Here's the thread

from over there. I thought he might have something left, too, but I have yet to hear anything this winter to support that hope. I just hate to see any player just collapse like that.

The Big 12 doesn't face the type of running attack tOSU has

I have faith that Muschamp will make the necessary adjustments at half.

Unless tOSU can start punching some of these opportunities into TDs instead of FGs Texas should win

I don't know about Ramirez

but the the USC Trojans should be ranked ahead of UT by the end of the week! Too close for comfort!

by mrichardson70 on Jan 6, 2009 12:15 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The USC love fest is crazy

They still lost to a decent, but not by any means great, Oregon State team. UT lost one game, to a top ranked team, on the road, in the last seconds. There is no reason they should be ranked ahead of UT.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Certainly ahead

of UT.

I still think they should add a new division to College Football. Non BCS conference schools can be Division 1 and a half. Or they can just have a playoff system like every other sport.

utah

the texas game was way too close, i think utah ends up being #2

simply because they are a better team.

FL
Utah
OU
USC
UT

Who has USC beat to make them the better team in your opinion?

Outside of Ohio State and the Penn State game, they haven’t faced any tough teams this year and the OSU game was at home.
