Cue oc, brettgardner

I had a paper route when I was a kid. I was supposed to go to 2,000 houses. Or two dumpsters.

Really?

I just watched it in order to give it a fair chance, but my God—it is terrible. That’s no bit. I just can’t imagine why that would be funny to anyone.

I saw that comedian doing a standup special last night as well, and I can definitively say now that he certainly fits in on whatever the fuck this clip is from.

You just don't like him

because he is your intellectual equivalent.

Like OC said, its not piss yourself funny, but I thought it was pretty funny for some parts. The acid tripping guy was probably the best.

Oh.

I still don’t understand your point, though. I don’t like him—at least the standup that I saw—because the special wasn’t funny.

I enjoy plenty of comedians who are by far my intellectual superior.

And your sense of humor...

it’s something to behold.

Thanks.

Maybe if I talk about the lamest, whitest, tamest comics I could better demonstrate “getting it”?

It’ll take time, ben. There are only so many Last Comic Standings a week, you know.

David Cross...

could be described in many ways, but “tame” wouldn’t be one of them.

"I know you're a bit dense but no, it doesn't. Obviously lying isn't a problem for me."

Really?

Well admittedly I’m going by one standup act and a few movies, but I haven’t seen anything I’d call shocking.

Unless saying, “I like drugs” is still edgy.

by brettgardner on Jan 11, 2009 12:39 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well...

his material isn’t considered tame by most standards. Mr. Show, for instance, wouldn’t be considered “tame.”

He was

Decent, and there were a few jokes I laughed at, but it was pretty standard fare.

That’s my standard for tame, though I can’t speak to anyone else’s. I would say though, that irreverent does not equal untame.

Mr. Show...

isn’t for everyone. I know some that really weren’t big fans of that show but still enjoy his standup.

I’d ask you to give his standup another shot. He has some pretty good stuff out there.

I thought it sucked

And that’s unfortunate, because I loved Will Arnett in Arrested Development. My girlfriend got me Let’s Go To Prison on DVD….and we weren’t together much longer.

This is Mr. Show's formula: take an idea and abuse it.

Though I will admit that the ‘donut shop hipster’ sketch made me smile.

Funny

Really? Maybe I am not smart enough to see how that if funny or I am not thinking there is supposed to be some deep meaning here that makes it funny. I dunno. Just thought it was about as funny as scooping dog poop

by Mike Simonek on Jan 9, 2009 10:02 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

no, it's just not funny.

it’s stupid. I always think people who say this kind of stuff is funny are just saying it to look cool.

I'm just saying...

…that this video is funny because I want to look cool?

Judging from the comments, it would seem to have the opposite effect.

fwiw, a lot of the humor inherent in this is derived from the H.R. Pufnstuf show from back in the day, which this parodies. If you’ve never seen that, then this video doesn’t make as much sense.

If you wanted to...

post something to “look cool,” you’d use my userid.

I’d post some Limp Bizkit. Because they are what is really cool now, right?

Or is it that Fall Down Boy band?

No, if you really wanted to be cool...

you’d post a video with the fat red headed kid from Sandlot in it.

Judging from the replies

it looks like not too many people were exposed to HR PufnStuf or Sigmund the SeaMonster as a kid. I loved those shows so yeah the bit had a bit more resonance with me. Although if you haven’t seen the shows it’s parodying, I’d be surprised how anyone could make it past 2 minutes.
