WS Winners

This might be a lame-ish post in that it doesn't involve analysis or pointing out some idiotic decision. But, the offseason has been pretty lame (except for the excellent collapse by Papelbon) and, I've been thinking about what palyers I, as a baseball fan, would enjoy seeing win a world series. The guys I really could root for and who could keep me invested in the playoffs. For example, ARod, not so much. Same with Lackey, even if he's a Ranger. I would love to see the Rangers win it, of course, but it would be a little bit of a downer to me if Lackey were the winning pitcher in the deciding game. So, here are a few of some of the better players in the league that off the top of my head I would absolutely love to see win a world series (or another):
Josh Hamilton (even if I weren't a Rangers fan, he'd keep my interest up)
Zack Greinke
Joe Maurer
Pudge
Elvis
Pujols
Tulowitzki
Ben Sheets
Roy Halladay
Jamie Moyer
Johan Santana
Roy Oswalt
Adrian Gonzalez
Beltran

The opposite, a few of those who force me to turn the channel:
ARod
Papi
Papelbon
Lackey
Pettite
Fielder
Drew (both of them)
Jeter

Ditto

just to shut up all the stupidity about him not being “clutch” or whatever. I hate double standards. Except when practiced by me, of course.

I could root for ARod, if he had never given up on the Rangers.

the guy played hard every day in a Rangers uniform

I’ve been labeled a Hicks apologist, but the fact is that he screwed up when ARod called him up and said “I’m feeling a little hopeless here.” Hicks should have reassured him that steps were being taken to build something good long-term. Instead, Hicks saw an opportunity to undo his contract and forced what ended up being a botched deal. ARod for Soriano + Arias may just be the worst trade in Rangers history. And as time has gone on, I dno’t think we can blame ARod. He’s a whiner, yeah, so? Who listens to whiners when you have them under an 8 year contract????

i don't have a problem with people being mad at a player when they beg of the team they root forq

Oh I understand the ARod hating

Like I point out below, I’m a big Teixeira-hater for really the same reasons. I’m just saying I’ve moved on a bit from that point of view and blame Hicks (and Hart) a bit more now.

tipping signs...

is not a quality of a player that plays hard every day

by JShoe on Oct 13, 2009 10:14 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

right

i forgot about the tipping signs. that’s not cool – especially for us who were watching those “meaningless” july games hoping for a win

And why exactly is that?

Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

No to Lackey, Jeter, and Papelbon...

I assume for no other reason than you just don’t like them.

But yes to the loser drug addict whose body is breaking down in his 20’s because of his own moronic behavior and then spends his off season letting bar skanks lick whipped cream off his chest while his wife and kids are at home?

Makes perfect sense.

I don't think being a fan has to make sense.

Hamilton… yeah that was bad. He’s a jerk. I feel like he’s much less of a jerk relative to all the jerks in the Majors. I don’t feel bad pulling for him. Addictions are harder to deal with than just being an egotistical ass.

I doubt u r a Rangers fan

look he came back from things many ppl never come back from and could he be wearing down, maybe but he was fighting injuries all year, he is a story that shouldn’t be applauded since it was his own choice but cut the guy some slack, he admitted to his mistakes and he is doing the best he can

he is a Rangers fan, and most likely he watches more games than you do.

I didn't realize Adam hated him

I have hated him since Oakland… he is just a punk… and Tom Grieve hates him too… so I feel vindicated.

He's getting a little big for his britches.

I can’t really put a finger on it. I liked his dad’s attitude on the field a whole lot more, and maybe that’s all it is. Prince would be an excellent DH for the Rangers, though.

Forgot the sarcasm tag on that one.

I really don’t understand what it is about Prince that bothers me. Maybe he has an incredible work ethic I don’t know about and maybe he’s just as interested in winning a world series as he is in getting the maximum contract. It doesn’t seem to me that those things are true, though. I really dislike guys who disrespect the team they are on and don’t give everything they have to make that team the best it can be, and I think I’m getting that kind of vibe from Prince. I’ll admit that I just might not have followed him close enough to have a good read on him.

I love Prince Fielder

Watching him run and occasionally “slide” is one of the funniest things in baseball.

When did Tulowitzki win one?

No worries

Definitely with you on Tulo being one of my favorite players

ex rangers pitchers

i’d like to see in the world series… john danks, chris young, edinson volquez.

other ex rangers… yeah i’d like to see adrian gonzalez too. i like gerald laird so him too. several others too

of course i’d rather our team be in the world series. and all others can go to hell if we’re in the WS

2010? 2011? 2012? 2013? 2014? 2015?

Adrian Gonzalez

now that’s an excellent player on a sucky team that doesn’t get his due. I’d love to see him win one someday.

Papelbon and Teixeira

are the two guys who I love to see watching the other team dogpile. That game against the Angels the other day when Papelbon blew it was gold.

And my Teixeira hating credentials go way back. I’ve been driving the Teixeira is a douche bandwagon since 2006. On the bright side, that makes me indirectly the longest advocate of Neftali and Elvis (and my favorite, Mr. Matt Harrison)!

Go Rice Owls!
