Borbon in CF tonight
Borbon in CF tonight vs Seattle per Anthony Andro. Byrd will be in RF and Blalock is still out for the count after taking a phantom shot to the head. That is one tough knee that Derek has. Will Andruw be at 1B again tonight?
Sometimes it is difficult to decide where to put the patest Ranger news. This could have been a fanshot since I have a link. It could go in the morning thread or one of the other front page threads and get lost. But it is directly related to the Rangers so I opted for a fanpost. Am I at 75 words yet?

Wow, he'll get a whopping 3 games there this season!
Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock
he looked good
getting good reads….. still don’t understand this trepidation about playing him there from Wash.
Yep

he didn’t look good on that groundball single up the middle (in the 4th?) that he charged and threw home from shallow CF and could barely get his rainbow throw to make it past the pitchers mound.

Yep
That arm is gonna be tough to deal with longterm in CF.

And yet he's still better than Byrd.
The 2009 Texas Rangers offense: sigh...

Laughed (nervously)
When Byrd almost steamrolled him on that fly to right center. Borbon was easily there, but Marlon forgot the CF makes the call.

The arm is always...
going to be an issue. I wish there was some way to surgically put Gentry’s arm on Borbon’s shoulder.
However I think his speed can make up for that long term. I still see him as the CFer of the future on this team. Especially if he hits like he has been. His speed at the top of the order has also been a huge plus. If the arm is the only downside of Borbon I will happily take that and put him in CF everyday.

What's wrong with Gentry out there?
I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him defensively. Does he have enough bat to stick in center?
He just got done with his second straight season in AA
He needs to spend all next season in AAA
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
And Gentry getting promoted over Golson should tell you everything you need to know about Golson

Yep
Its almost a guarantee Gentry keeps his 40 spot this winter while Golson will probably be a guy who gets DFAd should the need arise for a open spot

What's wrong with Gentry?
His age and his bat. He could be a capable 4th or 5th OFer because of his defense but I don’t think he will ever hit enough to warrant being a starting CFer in the bigs.
You’re right though, he has looked impressive defensively in limited playing time.

Right now I think he tops out
as a 4th if everything breaks right for him. But most like he will be a 5th OF and have a reserve seat on the OKC Shuttle.

Gentry
I think he needs a full season of more age appropriate competition in AAA to really judge his bat. But 4th/5th outfielder is likely the ceiling. And thats not really even a bad thing, he’s got defensive skills and speed which would make for a good outfield supersub. But his skills are more ideal for the NL it seems.
