Haven't seen this posted anywhere, but it is amazing how his star has fallen.

I think he was lucky
to be in the right place at the right time in Oakland.

Yep
Fuck him for all nothing he did here.
The 2009 Texas Rangers offense: sigh...

not that we couldn't have gotten him again
but we gave up a pretty good player for him, too

Does anyone think
SD will keep Gonzalez past mid-2010? I’d think he’d be the #1 trade target in July.

SD desperately needs
a Teixeira to Braves type deal. They need multiple high ceiling exciting young players. Obviously everyone wants that. But that franchise has only one thing going for them – Adrian Gonzalez. He’s a local, so they’ll need to get something more exciting.
I could see a team like the Red Sox doing that too. The key for SD is to make it look like a deal to take advantage of AGon’s value, not a desperation move like with Peavy (how Towers handled the Peavy situation alone was enough to get him fired)
Go Rice Owls!

It shouldn't be long before we get a Galloway column explaining that he was wrong when he blasted the club for letting Fuson go
It and the Herschel Walker trade mea culpa should be coming along any day now.

Well
They let Fuson go to keep Hart around. I don’t think that deserves a mea culpa.

Two words: Drew Meyer
with Cole Hamels, Joe Saunders, Scorr Kazmir, Matt Cain, Joe Blanton, Jeremy Hermida, Nick Swisher, James Loney, Kahlil Greene and Denard Span still on the board.

I was flipping out on draft day 2002, but
Fuson did some good things here. In his next draft he added Danks and Kinsler, very strong, and he is the guy who was responsible for the Adrian Gonzalez acquisition. I’m not a real big fan, but while I wondered at the time if aliens had taken over his body to pick Meyer, all in all he probably at least broke even.

Kinsler
After reading MJH’s piece on drafting Kinsler, I don’t know if I could attribute that to Fuson.

Yeah, Kinsler was Mike Grouse's guy.
And a roster fill-in at that. No one thought much of him anywhere, including Texas.

When you take this step
I would argue that you can really skew the performance of any executive in a positive or negative direction. We hear some anecdotes about guys, but we don’t even come close to knowing the full story. How many late round, low bonus JC guys should be attributed to the scouting director based on this criterion? If a scouting director drafted a guy, he gets credit for him. Same goes for the GM who employs the scouting director.

OK, I agree with that.
I guess that specialized information about Kinsler being that one guy’s baby came to mind, especially considering the war room didn’t seem to be in agreement.
But it’s getting a little fine with it.

Yeah, but Lane Meyer is worse than suck.

Lane Meyer
would be better off dead.

Would you pick Meyer over Saunders right now, though?
by Inkara1 on Oct 27, 2009 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No
But Saunders still sucks, and I always feel the need to point that out.

Wasn't he the centerpiece the Angels thought we should be satisfied with for Marky Mark?

No, Mario Ramos defines "sucks"
A 48-22 career record with a 4.22 ERA is far from sucking.

the thought of that draft makes me vomit a little

While I'm no John Hart fan, Hart did begat Daniels
If you look at keeping Hart around for a little extra time in exchange for getting Daniels, I think I’ll take that over keeping Fuson around and making him the GM.

Saw that this morning
Great baseball mind that probably climbed a position or two higher than he could really handle. I always thought that he was a guy that needed a buffer between draft selection and draft direction.
Let him find the guys they want to scout and build the staff, but have someone else make the picks

By the way
is Hoyer keeping DePodesta around?
by Brett Perryman on Oct 27, 2009 6:39 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Don't know
But with Fuson about to leave on vacation, that might explain why he was told now, with other people finding out once Hoyer officially comes on board.
