MLBTR Discusses Byrd as a Free Agent
Here's an outside perspective of Byrd as a FA. He is most likely going to sign somewhere else, and I'm not against that. Flap those arms and fly like a Byrd.

Brewers, BoSox, and Yankees fans
would like to see Byrd on their team. If team FOs feel the same way, there is no way we sign Byrd.
Of course, BoSox and Yankees fans would want every FA if they could.

Should we offer Byrd arbitration
and risk the possibility of keeping him?

Why would he accept arbitration?

I guess his decision might come down to:
stay with Texas for one year and start and compete for a playoff spot, or languish somewhere like KC on a multi-year deal, or come off the bench on another competitor. Texas might be the only playoff contending team that will start him.

definitely
he’ll most certainly decline it to get multiple years.
and, I wouldn’t mind having Byrd around for 1 more year at an arbitration salary. the issue is having him longterm and costing alot through that time
