Happy birthday to R.A. Dickey, who turns 35 today.

Wow...he's old.

No shit...

I’m 31 now. If 35 is old, then I’m screwed.

Of course I know AJM was speaking in terms of baseball age. I didn’t think R.A. was that old either.

Sweet, Happy Birthday RA, I can't believe he's still in the majors

I thought it be all warm and shitty, but it just tasted like normal beer. It was still cold.

4/6/06 Boxscore – check Dickey’s line.

Naked Mole Rat clowns Dickey – Note Ian Kinsler’s first big league HR highlight there.

I have a soft spot for the guy.

I figured he was 30. I like guys who fight the good fight in following their dream.

There's no telling

…how many people he’s killed or blackmailed to get where he is.

He sold his elbow ligament to the devil.

That’s commitment to the dream. Shoulda picked a less critical body part. Hindsight’s 20-20 though.

My question is

Is it just me, or has RA spent his whole career Dicking around?

trivia question

From 1990-2000 the Rangers had a total of 15 first round and supplemental first round draft picks, how many of that group had better ML careers than RA Dickey?

Name them.

hm

Dan Smith, Monty Farris, Rick Helling, that guy who played basketball, Benji Gil, and that’s all I can think of right now.

and didn’t they draft Rob Nen as a SS or something like that?

by Black Francis on Oct 29, 2009 11:28 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nen

Drafted in the 32nd round in 1987.

thanks for playing

In case anybody is interested:

2000 Scott Heard C
2000 Tyrell Godwin OF
2000 Chad Hawkins
1999 Colby Lewis RHP
1999 Mike Mead RHP
1998 Carlos Pena 1B
1997 Jason Romano
1996 R.A. Dickey RHP
1996 Sam Marsonek RHP
1996 Corey Lee LHP
1995 Jonathan Johnson RHP
1993 Mike Bell 3B
1992 Rick Helling RHP
1991 Benji Gil SS
1990 Dan Smith LHP
1989 Donald Harris OF

That’s a pretty uninspiring group of first rounders. Safe to say that only Helling and Pena have had better ML careers than R.A. Dickey.

I was so happy

when Melvin and his gang of misfit toys were out of there. Was there ever anyone more overrated for building a farm system? Those drafts pretty much were the reasons the early 2000s were so rocky.

Damn...

luckily for me, I didn’t keep a close eye on the Rangers draft/farm ’til about ’03 or ’04.

That’s a very uninspiring list of high draft picks.

He was drafted 13 years ago?

Jeez, I remember the Hardline interviewing him right after he was drafted. Man, time flies.
