What Going to happen to our Coaches in 2010
You know what our team has only 2 coaches for 2010 and that is Ron Washington , and our pitching coach Mike Maddox. I think we need our Batting coach Rudy Jaramillo he has helped our team a lot.
This is what our GM had to say "
Daniels said his concerns over another team trying to sign Jaramillo are no different than if he were dealing with a free agent player. Still, he’d like to keep the staff intact.
"I think the coaching staff as a whole has been an asset for us, and I don’t anticipate much change, if any," he said."
Well there will be some change if you don't we renew the contracts
Tell me what you have to say. Should we start renewing the Coaches?

Eh, I tend to think that coaches that oversee the massive failure of their assigned departments shouldn’t return if you have an opportunity to get out of their contract.
‘Specially when they’re probably not coming back without a raise, when your club is buttass broke, and they were the most highly paid at the position they oversaw the massive, epic failure of a season at.
But that’s just me. Maybe there’s a fantastic reason out there to squeeze some extra bucks out of the budget to overpay for Rudy Jaramillo so we can post in the bottom 3 in OBP in the Al again.

Just trying to figure out why you care so much that I call out a dumb fan post.
Or do you enjoy useless fanpost clutter on the side bar of the site?
Never mind, make fun of the fact that I’m on the radio playing my music while no one gives a good fuck what you do.

he’s the only change that I think will be made though.

Rudy
Once again the Rangers will finish ranked higher in SLG than OBP in the AL. Only 2 times since 1995 have the Rangers ranked higher in OBP than SLG. (1998 & 2000)
For some perspective, the Yankees since 1996 have not finished ranked lower in OBP than SLG. Since 1998 Boston’s OBP only ranked lower than SLG twice.
What doe sthis mean? I am not sure. I am still reasearching OBP vs SLG.

Probably
The in-game decisions usually have something to do with both the manager and the bench coach. It may be a plus to have a good tactician in that job, albeit I don’t know if Moore in fact isn’t one, complicated by his being a Nolan pal and long time associate.

Who is responsible for opening up Nellie Cruz and Chris Davis? Seems whoever worked with these two got them on track. Maybe their in the line for the job.

If I remember right...
it wasn’t anything to do with Josh’s stance. It was his toe tap that Rudy was playing with. Josh didn’t do well at all with Rudy’s new approach for him and he switched back after a month or so.
For Peachy above, I believe it was Coolbaugh who worked with both Davis and Cruz when they went down. He could take Rudy’s spot if Rudy isn’t brought back.

Hamilton started working on changes in August of 2008
His September was pretty good that year. I don’t know what happened to him this year but I don’t think you can pin all the blame on Rudy. The changes were Josh’s idea and he did ok with them in 2008.

Just thinking out loud (or in bits and bytes)
One area where the on field budget might be reduced is number of coaches.
Manager
Bench Coach
3B Coach (may handle infield)
1B Coach (may handle outfield)
Hitting Coach
Pitching Coach
Bullpen Coach
Does anyone esle think that depending on the manager, a bench coach might be redundant? And that the hitting coach might be outsourced “as needed”? And I wonder if there isn’t an MLB standard for number of coaches/people in uniform?
Would it dilute the game to cut MLB coaches down by two per team, and if anything maintain the staffing in the minor league systems?

Aoout enough to sign one talented Caribbean/Latin player
The money saved is secondary to two things:
- PR for acknowledgement that the economy isn’t good
- Reduction of any subdivision of power between coaches, field manager, and front office
(If for instance a Rudy gets clout or influences Wash when Servais or Coolbaugh disagree – trust me, such stuff crosses levels and may be a problem for GMs/JD)

maybe around
minor league minimum, Most coaches don’t get paid that much. You save more by replacing Rudy than you would making all those other maneuvers.

2 per team?
So is Maddux gonna be the pitching/outfield/3B coach?
The only two I could see possibly being eliminated are bullpen and bench but in reality thats only saving probably 200K a year.

No
Read the post. The job to eliminate is hitting coach, and possibly bench coach. Hitting can come from within the system, placed in the high minors. Bench albeit a checkpoint is redundant with the field manager, who can get player situation observations from the combo of 3rd-1st-Pitching-Bullpen. And the question was, would it dilute the game on the field to drop two coaches.

Sorry
I read it as “cut it TO two coaches per team” not “cut it BY two per game”. Don’t know why I did that.
Anyway I don’t think theres anyway you can cut the hitting coach. Simple fact is there are alot of mechanics that go into hitting a major league baseball and with 13 offensive players on the roster I don’t think you can go without one.
I agree with the bench coach but the other one to cut if you are going to do so would be the bullpen coach IMO. All he really does anyway is watch the guy warmup down in the pen. Once they come in its Maddux who takes over.

Actually, in Basketball
Mark Cuban went the other way, because he figured it was crazy to not have enough coaches when you are paying players 10 million, and coaches less than 100K.
Seems like a real absurd idea, and the team would be better off trying to move Millwood and his contract, and that would cover the difference in coaches for the next decade.
