Inside Corner is no longer.
No link, Sturm just announced it on Ask Sports Sturm. It's still up as of now with no announcement. Basically it comes down to the fact that the ESPN blog came to town, and the sponsorship from Dr. Pepper runs out at the end of October.
Kinda sucks, kinda doesn't. We'll still get plenty o' Sturm and E.G.

It's actually sorta nice
I really expected it to be all-Romo, but to be fair the coverage has been pretty non-biased coverage of all DFW related sports.

Kinda boring and afraid to criticize the owner or Little Boy Donuts.
Evan Grant was guilty of the same thing and so was Perryman when writing over at the DMN.
Bring in a really good writer who doesn’t kiss the organization’s ass and that place might have something.

DMN’s fall in Rangers and Cowboy coverage (Losing Breer, adding Jean-Jacques is NOT the right direction, damnit!), Star-Telegram’s low rank to begin with…

EG kinda went downhill when the byrd issue started.
Seems like his stuff hasn’t been quite the same since his little song and dance about how signing Marlon to a bad contract is a good idea just because of Byrd’s “leadership” skills.

Actually, I don’t think that’s the extent of it all. I think many here have gone far beyond measured criticism of his individual assertions, and instead freely and half-assedly denounced his very brain power, or lack thereof. And I think that is both lame and pretty lazy, considering the fact that he has a pretty good track record, in the overall and long term scheme of things.
And no, I don’t want a cookie. I’m unclear as to why that defensive, and somewhat juvenile remark was necessary.

Hey, I like the guy.
I recognize he’s the best beatwriter around here, usually.
Thing is, crusading for dumbass things like keeping Young at SS last year (and moving him, as we found out, wound up being a catalyst in the Rangers success this year) and killing our offseason this year by overspending on a veteran we don’t need for no other reason than he likes his “clubhouse value” ticks me the fuck off, no matter who’s doing the crusading. I’d be just as pissed if Adam was on here saying those things. They’re stupid, and Grant shouldn’t be awarded a pass on saying them them just because he happens to be the best local writer (something that’s not too hard to do, given the caliber of the media these days). Same goes for Newberg too.

But claiming that you can’t take Evan Grant’s reporting seriously because he thinks the Rangers should bring Marlon Byrd back, or claiming that he’s afraid to criticize Tom Hicks or Jon Daniels (and thus is irrelevant), is stupid.
Of course, you think anyone who writes about the Rangers without constantly maintaining a clarion call for the ouster of Little Boy Donuts is in the tank for management, because you think that no reasonable person could believe that Little Boy Donuts should keep his job.

Why do you prefer to have homer writers
covering the team? You’d rather hear bullshit than something resembling the truth? Really?
Most of the articles in both Inside Corner (this past year) and the DMN in recent years may as well have been released by the Ranger marketing department.
When writers refuse to criticize ownership or the FO, the dumbass Ranger fan thinks nothing is wrong.
Case in point, it took three to four years for most of the fans (and almost everybody in here) to realize what Hicks was doing to This Thing.

Did you ever think
there wasn’t a story about the trading deadline because the guys in the room understood that a deal couldn’t be done. Maybe your little sig quote was taken out of context. Maybe Daniels had talked to guys like MY and other vets and laid out the possibilities at the trade deadline only to be told that no, we don’t really feel like Nick Johnson or someone else of that ilk would really help us. Maybe the quote was meant more as the Rangers vets weren’t surprised Daniels couldn’t find a deal because there wasn’t anything worthwhile out there? Of course you will never see it that way because of your blind hatred for Daniels.

There are probably 24-25 GMs that started
with their teams last April that I consider to be better GMs than JD.
I’ll give the nod to JD over the GMs in KC & Baltimore in the AL.
Over in the NL, JD’s probably better than the GMs in Washington, NY, Pittsburgh and Arizona.
I guess that makes JD somewhere around #24.

I think you are overstating the guy’s influence. He has his opinions, which you (or most of us) may disagree with. They may come from a different interpretation of the facts, or may arise from his different perspective of the clubhouse. Who knows.
The anger people take at columnists for espousing views that they disagree with is baffling. Maybe get annoyed when the logic is epically bad, like RG’s sometimes. But otherwise, we’re in serious overreaction territory. Too much anger…

Also, realize that some things are said in the heat of the moment (like the trade deadline) that is more in line with gameday threads than with reasoned debate. So some of the bashing may have more to do with initial strong reactions to ideas that get channeled as ‘personal attacks.’
I don’t mind that he presents a different perspective; I actually like that we have a good idea of what the clubhouse (ie, MY) thinks through him. My criticism is that he gets so caught up in some ideas that he becomes a salesman instead of a reporter.
