forcing my wife to watch OSU vs Texas

go Pokes!

Of course she’s got a ton of candy to pass out. somebody has to stay in the neighborhood to pass out candy.

Staying home, and staying at the back of the house

So I can watch this game without interruption.

Well, actually I don’t really give as much of a shit about this game as I thought I would, but I ain’t answering the fucking door all night long and I have nowhere fun to go.

Later, I’m going to carry on my Halloween mini-tradition of watching the final episode of Dead Like Me.

by GhostofSteveFoucault on Oct 31, 2009 8:19 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't see it as political correctness

Having a problem with a group of people chanting for the return of an illegal, secessionist apartheid state built on slavery isn’t exactly a “p.c.” issue.

by Adam J. Morris on Oct 31, 2009 8:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Do you honestly think they are chanting that

because they long for return of slavery?

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

by GhostofSteveFoucault on Oct 31, 2009 8:41 PM CDT up reply actions

"The South Will Rise Again"...

…is a reference to the Confederacy and its secession from the Union.

Given that the Confederacy was founded on slavery and the inequality of the races, whether that is what they are longing for or not, that’s what the phrase ultimately means.

by Adam J. Morris on Oct 31, 2009 8:45 PM CDT up reply actions

I think most say it (and will continue to say it) out of tradition

or defiance to those who are telling them to stop…

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

by GhostofSteveFoucault on Oct 31, 2009 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Both are bang-up reasons

“Hey, we are saying something that is praising a regime based on things that modern day society rightfully finds repugnant, but it is a tradition, so we’re going to keep doing it…”

by Adam J. Morris on Oct 31, 2009 9:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes...because that's the only rational explanation I can think of

for someone saying something so ignorant. The alternative is that they honestly DO want the “south to rise again” along with all of its atrocities…surely that is not the case, right?
I guess my point is that the p.c. thing has worn me out…every word you speak must be chosen carefully or one will be subject to sensitivity training.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

by GhostofSteveFoucault on Oct 31, 2009 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

The fact that something is a tradition...

…doesn’t mean that it isn’t stupid, and shouldn’t be ended.

by Adam J. Morris on Oct 31, 2009 9:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Mississippi

The fact that their state flag has part of the confederate flag still on it should be a much larger issue than having the south will rise again in the fight song (not saying I think it should stay in the song btw)

What I remember about the Zagnut bar is that in 48 Hours, when Reggie Hammonds told Jack Cates that he was hungry, and Jack said that he’d eat when Jack says to eat, and Reggie gets pissed and says he’s hungry and Jack can either feed him or take his black ass back to jail, Jack says, fine, I’m hungry, I’m ready to eat.

Reggie says he wants to eat somewhere with a nice atmosphere, with violins, and mandolins, etc.

And Jack takes him to a vending machine and buys him a Zagnut bar.

That, I think, is the only time my eyes have ever seen a Zagnut bar.

they would have let it be a HR. But yeah I’m not convinced it leaves the park without the camera, Too close to call.

the preceding post was a great success.

Hamels 2008 v. 2009

Hamels in 2009: 7.81 K/9, 2.00 BB/9, 1.12 HR/9, 3.72 FIP
Hamels in 2008: 7.76 K/9, 2.10 BB/9, 1.11 HR/9, 3.72 FIP

And he’s got a slightly better tRA this year than last year.

The difference is he has a .325 BABIP this year, and had a .270 BABIP in 2008.

When you look at peripherals

What are acceptable or favorable numbers for K, BB, and HR per 9?

by octoberty on Oct 31, 2009 10:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, Fangraphs has averages (by year) you can drop down on their tables now

For K/9, 6.99 was about average this year, BB/9 was 3.46, and HR/9 was 1.05.

After watching the Rangers offense this year, it almost seems impossible that there where teams with 43 or more comeback wins this season.

Goddamn our offense sucked.

Boise State beats Oregon early in the season.

Oregon then blows out then #6 Cal, and today is blowing out #4 USC.

Is it possible that Boise State is one of the 2 best teams in the country?

I have a big dilemna

I can go hang out with the old crew and be stoned and do the same old impressions and talk about the same old shit and feel totally awkward because I have nothing new to say

Or

I can go hang out with people that I work with, who I try to not hang out with because I don’t like to mix work and social life (as impossible as that is in television production work)

by oc on Oct 31, 2009 10:52 PM CDT reply actions

Man

I’d go hang with the work crowd, change it up.

Dead last among Yanks OF’s with a -11.9 UZR/150 this year. Swisher was -1.9, Cabrera was -2.5.

I don’t know that it is a slam dunk that Swisher is a better defensive COF than Damon.
