LSB fantasy baseball summaries
Okay, so Dustin (or shall I say Black Francis) doesn't care about our fantasy leagues. But judging off the multiple LSB leagues that I remember popping up pre-season, most of us around here do care.
ESPN keeper league, started by gossamer: I actually won! Followed by jetstream jenny's (??) and gossamer.
That should make you all ashamed, given that I finished 11 out of 15 on Rangers Boardies FBL B and 11 out of 18 on the mammoth 18 player Lonestarball league (both on yahoo). I just couldn't field a decent offense in either large league.
How did the rest of you do? Should we post final standings here for people to see and mock us for?

i was good at fantasy sports a long time ago
now i stink.
as for the espn keeper league, you should go ahead and pick your keepers in case you forget later one. you can always change your keepers. and when we get close to next season i’ll email everybody to see who is gonna rejoin. the teams that i try to contact over and over again without response will end up given to a new owner probably.

5th inning against the Tigers
probably won't know until
a few weeks before the draft. we are locked in at the number of teams. i’ll post on toward the beginning of next season if there are some owners that haven’t answered emails.
the rub is, that owners taking over, will get stuck having to pick the keeper players on a roster they never drafted.

5th inning against the Tigers
2nd place
in Rangers Boardies FBL A behind Req who won…again.
You just don't sit in a rocking chair, when you've built a revolution.
6th of 12 in Rangers Boardie FBL
which is to be expected.
Req has won it 5 years straight. Congrats to him.
I'm interested
Is that a keeper league? What the heck is Req doing to have such a streak of dominance? 5 championships in a row is pretty amazing.

You have to enter through the Rangers Boardie FBL B league.
Top 4 (or 6?) get moved into Rangers Boardie FBL A league the next year while the bottom 4 or 6 get moved down.
Or at least we’re going to try to do it that way.
Also, it’s redraft.
R
I missed most of the draft
and squeezed out a 5th place. Req is freaking amazing at that. He is several times more persistent than the rest of us, but it wouldn’t matter if he weren’t.

Nah
It’s the persistence that does it.
You guys don’t make enough moves :p….
As an example, I grabbed the following from the FA pool:
Brandon Inge
Miguel Montero
Aaron Hill
Ben Zobrist
Chris Coghlan
Brett Anderson
Tommy Hanson
Andrew Bailey
Scott Downs
Jason Frasor
I mean I had a decent core. But the key is actually staying on top of the hot up-and-comers. Though, I think I did make the call early on Hill and Zobrist. All the others were available for a while.
R
I have your persistence, but probably not your skill
I was probably 13th of 15th of FBL B after 2 months…
had a terrible offense..
got arod back from injury..
nick johnson, todd helton, gordon beckham, juan rivera, and chris coghlan from FA, traded lincecum for fielder…
learned quite a bit in how to succeed in roto with pitching…
110 moves.. finished 5th.. 2.5 points from 3rd
Well....
it sounds like you had a bad draft.
Draft is fairly key as it can kill your chances if you don’t have a good draft. Of course, you can’t win a league unless you’re persistant, IMO.
So, all you likely have to do is improve your draft, and you’ll be competing for the top spot.
Of course, then, I tried some harder competition and I only got 4th. So, I really think at least currently in our leagues, persistence is more important.
R
I'm really surprised I ended up winning that league
I completely tanked saves and SBs and traded Greinke for fucking Reyes when it looked like Reyes was about to come back.
If Dirk hadn’t dropped Nolasco when he was sent down, there’s no way I would’ve had any snot.

Boo
Neftali Feliz says sit your 5 dollar ass down before he makes change...
Hi, Keith. Is this the year Edinson Volquez finally wins RoY?
5th in Rangers Boardies FBL B
1 point behind rentz for 4th, ugh, matt holliday
15 of 18 in Lonestarball… let’s see my draft… Russell Martin, Adrian Beltre, Grady Sizemore, Jay Bruce.. thanks for nothing, by time Derek Lee got hot, it was too late.
I'm awesome
1st in LSB AL keeper league, 1st in LSB FBL B.
I’m going to get some plaques made and hang them in my mom’s basement/my bedroom.

Not as exclusive as some of ya'lls fancy schmancy leagues
but 1st out of 18 teams ain’t bad. The big league was fun, I think it’d be a blast to have a 30 team league with divisions and playoffs some time, but I don’t know a free website that allows for that many.
I think
that would suck massively. You’d have the sparest of spares on your team. That’s no fun.
"He will not coddle them. Nolan Ryan doesn’t coddle." - Jeff Passan
or you'd have to know baseball better and redefine what a "spare" is
i agree that a lot of people wouldn’t enjoy this… I would love the hell out of it though
well
to do that, you’d have to make sure the rosters are balanced; I think the problem is when teams have a utility infielder and 4 outfielders all playing, you will dilute the available ABs substantially (when people are getting multiple 1b and COFs to fill their utility roles, leaving other people without any).
The alternative is to maybe give each team a 25 man roster that plays all the time (no bench) and uses WAR as their only stat, as you suggest. That way being effective at picking part-time players will still be useful.
Go Rice Owls!
I know baseball just fine
and I have no interest in fighting over the 30th best 2B in the league or whatever.

10th in that league
manny let me down early with his suspension. other than him i had cliff lee and lance berkman as far as must have players in fantasy sports. my next tier featured the awesome Shin-Soo Choo, Michael Cuddyer and Ryan Dempster. then i had to slum with the likes of drew stubbs, ramon troncoso, and Jason Hammel at the end of the year

5th inning against the Tigers
4th in that league
Did not make one move either, I draft like Beane.

6th
but I kinda wish we had gone head to head instead of the style we were using
After Fuentes blows a save and an Angels loss to the Indians:
"Angels still in first place" - UCI Halo
"Hey you know who would have gotten those 3 outs in the 9th?
Darren O’Day." - FirebatM3
LOL
the good thing about roto
The best team will win the league. What’s not to like about that?
"You can probably stick a fork in the Rangers' playoff chances for 2009." - AJM on 7/26 with the team 4.5 games out
not an LSB league
But I’m in a 16 team roto league, and after about 1750 individaul games played and 1450 innings pitched per team – the championship came down to the last inning of the last game of the season. I ended up winning by half a point because Brian Wilson got the save, had Heath Bell gotten the win or save I’d have lost. Quite amazing that it came down to that.
Ironically I dealt for Brian Wilson from the team that ended up in second. I gave him David Wright and Brian Fuentes for Ryan Zimmerman, Nick Markakis, and Wilson. He’s a huge Mets homer and has been trying to get Wright from me for 3 seasons. I made that trade and Wright got his concussion less than a week later, and Wilson ended up getting me the half point margin of victory.

My keeper...
lost in the finals for the 2nd straight year. Young/Kinsler/Cruz/Hamilton on my team. Bastards
I have often fantasized about being a pitcher
And an old-school type of pitcher who’d throw inside and pitch a bunch of innings. A Nolan Ryan type.
