A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

They need to put it back up on the bar where it was before.

Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

Combine the league-wide drop

of about 6-7% per game with the Rangers gain of ~13% per game, then in a non-recession year, one could have expected the Rangers attendance to have gone up by 20%. That’s unheard of and a really good sign.

Obviously this isn’t exactly how it would have played out – Texas was less affected by the recession as other places were. But still… Chuck Greenberg, pay attention to this.

uh-uh-umm

Anyone have Ian’s email address?

Also, about 2010…

The chances that MLB will see attendance levels back to 2008’s levels in next year seem slim to none. The economy sees nothing more than a faint glimmer that this recession may be coming to an end, and clubs seem well aware of it.

Might 3yrs/$20M be optimistic for Byrd?

I suppose that this shows us just how impressive the Rangers 2009 jump in attendance really was.

Texas Rangers Win-Curve Part I: Wins vs Attendance

The Rangers won 87 games.
My curve predicted an average attendance of 27,958.

According to Brown’s numbers, the Rangers had an average attendance of 27,641.

Scary, isn’t it?

This seems likes Josey baiting

Of course, it turns into circular logic. JW claims that attendance has gone down since JD came on board; ergo, JD is killing attendance. I point out that, no, winning and losing is what affects attendance. JW responds that if JD had put a good team on the field, attendance would be up; ergo, JD has killed attendance but now that Nolan’s on board, attendance is up.

I don’t even need to talk to the guy anymore. I’ll just have pretend conversations with my head with him and enjoy myself far more.

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.
